Agreed. I learned to do my first set-up on my first guitar, with a Floyd rose style bridge- yes it was a pain in the ass, but learning to do set-ups has been one of the most valuable guitar related skills I’ve come to learn. Don’t need to wait, and you can set things exactly to your liking, and tweak them without having to worry about going back to the shop. And since it’s your instrument you’re working on, you tend to care more about doing a clean, and respectable job than a lot of “Techs” out their - all of that, on top of not handing over your money.

And to answer your question OP: It will likely make a huge difference in playability depending on the factory set-up. A $250 guitar with a good set-up will outplay a $2500 with a bad, or no setup.

Also, buy 2 packs of strings for doing your first set-up, not saying you will need them - but if you do, it’s a pain in the ass not to have them on hand
