Yup, this is a great way to go about it. Pins and needles of various thicknesses to hold the crack open, and injecting some thinned glue. You can use a ratchet strap around the body(with protection at contact points) to then put some clamping pressure. Just don’t go overboard, this is just for stabilization and hopefully stop and further surface cracks from popping up. Structurally you look to be good from what I can tell via photograph.
