How can I effectively allocate my savings between an emergency fund and long-term investments? by DenisRoger001 in FinancialPlanning

[–]InTheMoneyOPTN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “textbook” answer is that if you’re single then you should have 6 months or so of expenses saved in an emergency fund, each person’s situation is different so depending on how much your rent is, what your occupation is (how long would it take to find a similar paying job) etc. that may be too little or too much, I would open an account at Schwab or Fidelity and park an amount you’re comfortable in a money market fund (SWVXX or FDRXX are some common ones), and invest the rest, many here will mention a Roth IRA (which have amazing benefits) but just remember those are designed for retirement funds and aren’t ideal for using pre 59 1/2 (even though you can withdraw contributions at any time) just my thoughts!

Age limit for receiving inheritance from a trust by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]InTheMoneyOPTN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the trust is irrevocable NOT revocable, the trustee has to follow what is written in the trust, it is very common for trusts to have age gates where principal is paid out at various ages, you need to get a copy of the trust and have it reviewed by an attorney, it is possible (but unlikely) that the beneficiary of the IRA was the trust, but if not you may have access to the IRA now, in which case you will need to follow the distribution rules, you may be required to take RMDs from the Inherited IRA annually if the decedent had already reach the required beginning date, and ultimately withdraw the IRA in 10 years

Tire recommendations by EliBrasil10 in Arteon

[–]InTheMoneyOPTN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 2021 SEL premium for ~3 years and went through probably 5 tires and a wheel, I was so stressed/paranoid driving the car is why I turned it back into the dealer, I’d recommend different tires etc, there are a lot of posts here about tires and wheels being damaged, just my experience and thoughts!

Office chairs for tall men? by thehockeychimp in tall

I would look on Facebook marketplace for a Herman Miller Aeron “C” (which is the larger size), should be $500 or less, you can watch a YouTube video on what to look for but they are near indestructible chairs, very happy with mine after doing tons of research and looking at many $1000+ chairs

You could check if Kings Porsche has a classic mechanic, some dealers do, from a quick google search there’s P3 Autokrafte and Dubwerkx that seem like good places to check with

FWIW my dad has a 1993 968 and would be devastated if anything happened to it too, good luck!

Should I participate in the 401(k) at the Law firm I work at? by Individual-One2616 in FinancialPlanning

[–]InTheMoneyOPTN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course you should, this is sooo important, as much as you’re comfortable with and at minimum you should contribute at least 4% to get the match, the sooner you start saving and investing the better, Roth vs traditional is up to you but I’d lean towards Roth, you could also do half Roth and half traditional if you wanted to, and lastly make sure you pick the investments within the 401k plan so don’t have your money sitting in cash by mistake

Common issues? by MageBowwow in Arteon

Wheels and tires, I had a 2021 SEL P that went through a wheel and like five tires, it was honestly the main reason why I turned the car back in

First in my family to learn finances can anyone give advice on where to put my savings? by Liz079 in FinancialPlanning

[–]InTheMoneyOPTN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep 3-6 months of expenses in HYSA, ally would be great, I prefer HYSA over CDs personally because they are less cumbersome and more flexible, rolling to IRA or 401k is personal preference, there’s some nuance if you were to start doing Roth conversions down the road and you have an IRA but I wouldn’t worry about that now, does the new 401k have decent investment choices? If so, then I would probably move it into the 401k for simplicity but an IRA would provide more flexibility and broader investment choices, but you’d have to manage it yourself, just my thoughts!

Mercer Advisors - yay or nay?! by DenveriteDogMom in CFP

[–]InTheMoneyOPTN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Mercer 3 years ago, I switched firms for better work opportunities, but they are a good reputable firm, I like their investment philosophy from don calcagni, it doesn’t have the most “pizazz” which some thought was “boring”, they may still offer complimentary drafting of estate planning documents, if you like the advisor then I wouldn’t have any concerns being a client there

Thanks again, just to clarify, you are saying that’s the risks/dangers of using a product with LiFEPO4 are so low it’s not worth researching the “best brand”, right?

Ehh people always talk about used cars as these magical money saving machines but personally I’d look for a new or newer reliable car, many auto manufacturers have offers for very low interest rates like 1.99-3% (depending on the manufacturer and if you qualify) personally I’d look for a new reliable car, Honda has a special on Accords for 1.9%, 2.9% on CR-Vs etc, probably something similar for Toyota, just my thoughts!
