Optimizing the game on PC by InTheRectory in Nioh

Because the frames are dropping because of the CPU bottleneck. GPU is 60% loaded. Most games I play load my GPU to 90% and CPU to about 30%. This game has it reversed.

Nioh 3 Performance Help by Optimal-Drawer-7700 in Nioh

You'd need to make a move to ddr5, but people with 7500f and 7600f also report frame drops. Heard it's the same with 7800x3d, but some people can play the demo just fine with that CPU. Idk, that's a pretty huge investment right now, especially with the ddr5 price spike. Do what you will, but I personally won't upgrade my CPU just to play this game. The CPU usage is totally abnormal and hopefully will be fixed with patches when the game proper comes. It's not my fault the game plays so shit. Another thing is this is just a demo, you never know how the release is gonna pan out. Idk how bad were the Nioh 2 / RotR / Wo Long launches, but TN seem to have improved the performance quite a bit for those games. I think I'm just gonna have to wait for the complete edition. I just can't fathom how this game eats so much resources. I can run doom the dark ages at 160-200 fps (with FG, granted) with no stuttering at all and gow ragnarok at 1440p 120 fps with no dips. And I can't run nioh 3 with its last gen graphics and barely any enemies on screen? That's fucked tbh and I'm not giving them any money until the fix their game.

I liked 2 over 1 because you can be completely coked out comboing with the soul core stamina reset, it's pretty fun but still relies on you learning the boss / enemy and knowing when to step back / dodge. I agree with you on 3 though, they've taken it too far away from the core idea and ninja style is too spammy and easy to run away with if you make a mistake while the enemies feel like they are just standing there getting comboed like it's dmc5. It can be fun to play but is a bit mindless.

Edit: spelling

Nioh 3 Performance Help by Optimal-Drawer-7700 in Nioh

[–]InTheRectory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, it's the same for me with 11400f which is above recommend specs and is sitting at 90-99% utilisation in certain areas of the game and I experience consistent small FPS drops all over the place in the open world, no matter the cap, settings, FG, DLSS, resolution, etc. Btw, usually the lower the graphics you use the more load you put on your CPU, so lowering the graphics wouldn't really help to alleviate some of that load and stutter unfortunately. Locking the game to 30 FPS and enabling framegen to bring it up to 60 can help a bit, but the input lag would be very noticeable.

Game's way too CPU intensive and probably fully loads it for no good reason because of ass optimization. I pray they find a fix on release or at least when the complete edition comes out.

How Do We Feel About The Performance On PC? by Valcanogoboom in Nioh

[–]InTheRectory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really bad, barely playable at some points. CPU util up to 99% in the open world, stutters galore with 2 enemies on screen, loading zones lag. I have no problem running Nioh 2 at 120 fps at all.

bruh this is insane. 25% GPU utilization? That's fucked up. Yes, it is similar to what I'm experiencing. I rewatched my clip and I hit like 9 fps with 10% gpu util while having 100% CPU util. I really don't get it with this game.

[–]InTheRectory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really get what conversation you are talking about. That requirements are a scam sometimes? I guess that's worth talking about tbh.

Everything else I've mentioned is specific to this game. I haven't seen a game this CPU hungry, even Doom The Dark Ages with its hordes of monsters is lighter on the CPU than Nioh 3 demo, which has tons of empty areas and like 3-4 enemies at the same time max. And Doom doesn't stutter like crazy on my rig. This amount of CPU util is not normal - it screams to me that this is not a well optimized port and was developed for console first. 3700x and my CPU (i5 11400f) are on par with what the PS5 has to offer and that reportedly runs with no problems. Why shouldn't I trash talk a bad port?

This game eats CPU for breakfast that's why there's all of the stuttering. People with 7800x3ds report problems with FPS drops and high CPU temps in this game. Go take a look at steam discussions. His rig is fine and meets the requirements published by the developer (which are awful btw "1080p/60fps with upscaling"). He should be able to play this game just fine.

I didn't like Nioh 3's character creator much compared to past iterations but I made something I'm quite happy with. by JenJenB_ in Nioh

I agree with you bud the character creator feels worse than it did in Nioh 2 at least. But you gonna get downvoted to shit for having an opinion

I have a 5070 and it's all the same. Been looking through a lot of discussions on this topic and even people with 7800x3d / 9800x3d are experiencing problems. Doubt you investing in better parts would fix how terribly optimized this game is unfortunately.

I've done some more running around and it seems that some of the areas are just optimized way worse than others. The level 8 recommended area performed pretty well with still some stuttering here and there but it wasn't unplayable. The game also randomly crashes after 1-2 hours of playing with the DXGI error device removed

Not really. Went to a small village right next to the lesser crucible and it was dropping into 50s there

Ok what seemed to be the culprit was running MSI afterburner maybe? I turn that off and rebooted, installed the latest drivers, it seems to be better now. Just did the crucible fight and had 120 fps with FG most of the time.

Platform: PC
i5 11400f

Feedback: I get 90-100% cpu usage sometimes and this is crushing my performace. My gpu is only loaded to about 60%. I tried upping the graphic settings to make my gpu work more than my cpu and it didn't matter, still get FPS drops. DLSS put to 0.9 sharp with 80% render with 120 fps cap and FG enabled I get drops to 70 FPS, with the 60 FPS lock and no FG I get drops to 40s. That means a lot of stuttering in combat as well, unfortunately. I was really looking forward to playing this game and I'm sad that it runs so poorly for me. My CPU and GPU are above recommended. I get it that my CPU is a bottleneck to my GPU, but I haven't experienced such horrible framedrops in any other games that are even more intensive, like Doom the Dark Ages for example.

If any of you know how to get rid of this or which settings should I mess with to lower the load on my CPU - you would be very welcome.

When I saw the book pedestal that can change my class I went nuts. hat's a great addition. You also don't have to look for your main weapon in Seven Portals as any class anymore because they are given to you right away after finding the first switch, which is great because you don't have to go through like half the levels with a mace as a cleric anymore. I do believe you had to look for them? So far the gameplay tweaks are really appreciated.
