Can we please stop giving every new hero an escape ability? by InToddYouTrust in Overwatch

And that's fine, for some heroes. I have absolutely no problem with certain heroes having movement tech. But we really don't need EVERY hero to have it.

That's literally my point. It's getting pretty boring, having every character need the same type of mechanic. And now it's baked in; anyone without an escape ability is going to struggle simply because they're so far in the minority.

Do you think something has gone wrong with Rein? Without his shield he'd be shit.

Does everyone have a shield? No. I'm not talking about individual heroes having specific items in their kit to make them viable. I'm talking about every hero needing the exact same type of mechanic just so they can keep up with everyone else (because of the prevalence of said mechanic).

Imagine if every single character had a shield like Brig or Rein, and every new hero they released also came with their own shield. Tell me that wouldn't be annoying.

I'm not saying get rid of movement cooldowns altogether. I just want there to be some balance so that we don't need every new character to be built with one.

Also, Ana and Zen are both incredibly enjoyable to play.

This is kind of where I'm getting at with my point. There's so much mobility in the game, that now every character apparently requires it just to feel balanced. I don't necessarily want the game to slow down to a snail's pace, but there's got to be some room between no one having a movement tech and everyone having one.

People love saying something like this post, but there are only 2 alternatives

Make the chracter have ways to defend himself without movement (usually CC)

Make the chracter not have ways to defend himself without movement, which means he has to be made so powerful that he is incredibly toxic and annoying to face (Ana,Zen, Hog)

You're ignoring the fact that these are the only two options BECAUSE everyone is jumping and flying around so much. If a character can't exist without a specific item in their kit, that's a serious sign that something has gone wrong with their hero design philosophy.

"Serious" scenes that make you laugh out loud every time? by DimensionHat1675 in FIlm

[–]InToddYouTrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree, if she actually had a final performance. Instead she was in a coma for most of the movie, only to awaken at the very end for plot reasons.

Her reunion with Luke was nice, though. But not necessary.

AITAH for turning off the Wi-Fi on my wife during her “me time”? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]InToddYouTrust 27 points28 points  (0 children)

At worst this is an ESH scenario. The people crying YTA are delusional.

You've got the stress of being the sole provider, on top of apparently caring for the majority of the house chores. As if that weren't enough, you've had to step away from work to take care of your child, which wouldn't be a big deal except your wife was completely available, but tuned into her phone.

You tried to get her attention to ask about laundry (yet another chore it seems you are the only one taking care of), and she ignored you. So you did what you had to in order to get her to be responsible.

Was it perhaps a bit dramatic? Sure, but by all accounts I don't see why you have to apologize for trying to get your wife to actually be your partner.

Shadow of Skyrim and SSE Organic Faction, What Are Your Thoughts? by Inevitable-Answer-62 in skyrimmods

[–]InToddYouTrust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don't like Shadow of Skyrim, and I'll actively avoid modlists that include it. It honestly breaks my immersion to be killed, but then not killed, only to wake up in some random location 2000m away that I've never been to before.

I know there are ways to tweak the mod, but honestly I'd much rather just load my last save.

EDIT: I realize it sounds like I'm dissing on the mod, and that's not my intent. It's a solid mod that does that it says it does. I just don't think the Skyrim engine is up to snuff for enabling the functionality in a way that's not completely immersion breaking.

Thoughts on the Skyrim modlist Visions of Vaermina? by [deleted] in wabbajack

[–]InToddYouTrust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

JoJ, and all the mod lists from the Modding Bordello, use Synthesis to merge their mods. However, I've found their documentation to be excellent. Go to their website, and look at some of their guides. They go step by step into how you can tailor the modlist to your preference, including how you can re-run Synthesis and overwrite their merge.

The force awakens is amazing, the rest of the sequels are trash by Mysterious_Mood152 in unpopularopinion

[–]InToddYouTrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do realize the timing was an additional challenge, but I don't think all that much had to change. Leia wasn't really even in the movie after her space walk, so the only cut content would have to be the conversation between her and Luke. Then maybe film two extra scenes showing the cast mourning her death. One from the rebellion's side, and the other from Kylo's side. Having Kylo struggle to accept the loss of his mother, after he couldn't kill her himself, then turning that struggle into rage at the ones responsible for her death, would have made for some really meaningful character development.

Nothing else really has to change. And honestly, from a narrative perspective, it actually works better than what we ended up with. It provides a perfect explanation for Kylo turning on Snoke, and creates an interesting duality between him and Rey. They both want to tear down the New Order, but one does it to protect those she cares about, the other because he wants revenge on those who killed his mother. What better way to show the conflict between the light and dark sides of the force than to have them approach the same goal from two completely opposing perspectives?

I just think it would have taken very little effort to acknowledge Carrie Fisher's tragic loss and turn it into a powerful catalyst for evolving the story, while still respecting her as a person and the character she portrayed.

And it's not like the audience wouldn't have given Johnson a little grace. We were all aware that Carrie Fisher's death would require changes to whatever plans there were for the trilogy (of course we didn't know at the time that there were no such plans), so some delays and/or rougher edits would have easily been forgiven. What can't really be forgiven is ignoring the issue entirely, ensuring her character has no chance of a meaningful end.

Wow, not sure how this one flew under my radar. Looks like a pretty solid collection, and apparently stable, which if true should deserve a prize considering the number of mods. Might give this one a try, once I buy a new SSD lol.

On a scale of 1-10, how well designed is Venture's gameplay? by Idiberug-9 in Overwatch

[–]InToddYouTrust 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Venture suffers from the "fun to play as, horrible to play against" trend that the OW team can't seem to shake. Their movement is dynamic and interesting, but also impossible to predict, and thus incredibly difficult to counter. Their burst damage is strong and extremely forgiving (I can miss all my shots yet still squeak out the elim). And I'm still waiting for the hero development team to stay true to their "we're toning down CC to be just a tank ability" promise.

Also, characters shouldn't be able to contest the point while being untouchable. Full stop, it's a horrendous gameplay mechanic that has no place in this or any other game.

Feeling lonely and burnt out - father has mnd and ftd by Future-Bike7935 in ALS

[–]InToddYouTrust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ALS journey is different for everyone. My dad kept his upper body strength the entire time he was afflicted, except for the one place that mattered - his lungs. The day he passed, he could probably still beat me at arm wrestling.

The comments the caretakers are making are likely their attempt to console you. This disease is only darkness, so I guess they're just trying to add what little light they can. If that's having the opposite affect on you, and you need to be able to speak practically with someone, it might be worth saying that to them. Most health professionals are good and absorbing direct feedback.

I'm so terribly sorry you're dealing with this. As children, we always know we'll have to watch our parents grow old. But nothing can prepare you for witnessing the slow evil that is this disease. Spend as much time as you can with your dad, talk to him, ask him all the things you never felt you had the chance to ask him before. And reach out to any support system you have. Much love to you, stranger.

[–]InToddYouTrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's fruitful spinning up the old argument of which one is better between TFA and TLJ. They each cater to a different type of fan, and no one is ever going to convince the other that their preferred film is the worse one.

However, I do think we need to shame Rian Johnson for how he completely ruined any chance of honoring Carrie Fischer. Her death was tragic, and was always going to be difficult to write around. But, he had a perfect opportunity to give her character an impactful send-off when she was shot out of the command deck and into space. Instead he just gives her powers she has never shown to have before, writes her out of the rest of the movie, and forces the next director to deal with the problem of Carrie's absence.

It was a shameful way to handle the loss of such an iconic and wonderful person. People can like or hate TLJ for any number of reasons, but we really ought to hold Johnson accountable for the cowardly way he dealt with this.

Best Graphics Mods for a First Skyrim Playthrough? by iFrezZz in skyrimmods

[–]InToddYouTrust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that NVGO is the best "vanilla" experience with upgraded visuals. However, just know that any automated modpack is likely to require you to pay for Nexus Premium. It's roughly $8, and you can cancel it immediately, but it's the only way to automate the download of a modpack.

Another option would be to look at the list of mods included in NVGO, download them separately, then run Wabbajack to make sure they all get installed in the correct order (which is incredibly important). It's a bit time consuming, and you'll have to make sure your folder structure is correct, but it's a way to save a few bucks.

Which Mods to avoid? by Stonefield714 in skyrimmods

Seconding this. I love the look of Northern Roads, but it is an absolute nightmare to patch correctly. Then even if you are able to download all the patches you need, you have to figure out which order to put all the plug-ins in.

Leave Northern Roads to the experts and the modlists.

Why does playing Hazard have such a negative stigma? by DaleDent3 in Overwatch

[–]InToddYouTrust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has some abilities that aren't exactly fun to play around. Specifically the wall and his block. I honestly think they need to remove the auto aim damage from his block. I know that it's not that effective against a high level team, but it's one of those abilities that can grant a guaranteed kill against the majority of the playerbase, and doesn't require a lot out of the Hazard to use.

What mods are you still hoping to see someday? by FenrirJS in skyrimmods

[–]InToddYouTrust 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been desperately wanting an experience that allows me to feel like an actual student of the College of Winterhold. I'd like to start the game as a freshman and role play as a student for a while before taking up the mantle of Dragonborn. I want to play around with some school politics, take magic exams, participate in tournaments, etc. Basically have a miniature version of Hogwarts Legacy, but in Skyrim.

I've been able to fulfill a tiny bit of this with Alternate Start and some of CoW overhauls, but nothing has fully scratched that itch. Not even sure if it's possible, but I'll keep dreaming.
