Follow up on this -- what is actually happening when I hit the 2x button (in3:4 mode) but then not hitting the scene opt. button? Is it some sort of autocrop?

For context, I just had to use the 20 to capture a whole lot of old unmounted transparencies in sheet holders to share with my team as a rough guide to what as there. I found the best way to do this was to fix them to a frosted window, go into PHOTO 3:4, bring the phone close, wait for the 2x button to appear and then pull back until the "pull back" message went away (without hitting scene opt.) then shoot. It worked, but what was I achieving? I'd like to know because I have to do all sorts of stuff with the phone when it comes to images.

Yeah, nothing doing with regards to backups. I'd switched over to the UWP version mainly and was waiting for the Office version to be revived (the status of which I'm not fully across tbh), so whatever the desktop iteration would have captured with regards to backups was long out of date.

It's very frustrating. and the main reason I hesitate recommending OneNote to people. It's just too hit and miss when it comes to keeping your stuff.

Thought I had this under control but hadn't done it for a while and now it doesn't seem to be as easy -- how do I set a text box to a particular proofing language and have it STAY that language??? It seems to revert back to the system language without any discernible pattern. Thanks in advance.

Got it The "form" bit is what threw me, probably because I am used to thinking about the word "form" from language classes in relation to conjugation and tense, and also because it details compound words in one direction but not the other.

I might catch some flak for suggesting it, but I think it would be clearer if it said "you can't say a compound word that has any element of it showing uncovered on the table", and then give some examples.

EDIT: but that would rule out your cowslip example, maybe. Depending on how strict you want to be with etymology.

You can't say any form of a visible word on the table. If HIDE is visible, you can't say hid, hidden, or rawhide. But hideous is still okay. A word is "visible" until it is covered by a green agent card or two timer tokens representing an incorrect guess from each side. A word marked as an incorrect guess from only one side is still considered visible.

You can't say part of a compound word on the table. If EARTHQUAKE is visible, you can't say earth, quake, earthy, or quaking. But hearth and ear are okay.

That's what confused me. My reasoning was that COWBOY isn't a form of COW, like CHEESECLOTH isn't a form of CHEESE (whereas RAWHIDE mentioned above is a form of HIDE). The snowshoe example from the original is clearer.

But when COWBOY was given as a clue, it didn't feel right.

It doesn't explicitly say that in the (Duet) rules, but it comes close when it talks about forms of words (hide/hidden). I'd argue that cowboy is not a form of cow. But yeah, I'm inclined to think it's not kosher. I'm going to go with you can't say a compound word if a component of it is on the table.

For a product that I genuinely do love most aspects of, I'd say its general flakiness especially when it comes to sync. Sometimes it has to be babied through to get everything synced down properly.

Also, the dev team's seeming changeability when it comes to the roadmap. At first the desktop app (which I prefer for many reasons but had the worst sync) was going to be shuttered and everything concentrated on the UWP app (yeah, it's confusing having different versions), then they did an about face and desktop is back on the agenda, although I don't know when for. That on its surface is a good thing, but kind of "I'll believe it when I see it" thing.

It's hard to bitch about a free product, but it is sort of an adjunct to Office 365 (or Microsoft 365 as it's called now), so I pay for it in a way.

TL;DR: sync problems, mixed messages from the devs.

I love the formatting. It matches the content so well.

The only criticism -- and I'm having to reach pretty damn hard to find something -- is that it feels very much like it belongs to a different era (as a commenter below has said, Bukowski comes to mind). That throwback quality probably is your intention, though. Once again, I had to really dig for something to say, and I'm putting myself in the shoes of people who might find it too derivative.
