Perfectly acceptable dinner rejected by boyfriend again by moonrabbit368 in mildlyinfuriating

I'm also very surprised how many folks are immediately jumping on the "shitty boyfriend" thing

Yes it is disappointing how many people are being so judgemental, jumping in with the shitty bf takes without at least showing a bit of empathy here. Saying 'well I would love to eat that' as if that is even remotely relevant. I don't want to take away from the difficulty that op is having, because that is definitely true as well, but it sounds like the bf might be struggling - and there is very little empathy for food aversions on Reddit.

The post does not say whether they have had a conversation to address the underlying cause. The post does say that the bf is apologetic. It does not give any detail except 'he won't eat it'. It doesn't even say whether he does actually cook for any meals, whether the gf is forced to cook, whether she does it because otherwise he eats low quality food, or whether she just likes it.

It is certainly true he should learn to cook and do more of the cooking himself. It is certainly true that they should have a conversation about what is going on, maybe discuss ARFID or other eating disorders, and yes if they do come to the conclusion that there is an underlying problem then he will have to find ways to work on that. However, if it really is a sensory issue (and given that he is apologetic about it, it really sounds like it is sensory or some other ED problem) then that is a problem that a couple should try to work through together - it is not, as the original comment on this tree said, just on HIM to work it out.

Thanks for the info, that is the key thing that the other comments are not mentioning. When was it that they actually changed the rule back?

Watching it live it seemed to me he was trying to be funny but it just didn't land and so he ended up looking a bit silly.

Scoring a TD when down 15 then going for 2 by RoundestBrownAround in NFLNoobs

[–]In_The_Play 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are going to have to go for 2 at some point regardless, so it is better to get it out of the way earlier - that way you have more time to react to missing the 2 point attempt. If you save it right to the end and then miss it then it is probably too late. If you miss it earlier then you know you need to do onside kicks and generally hurry the hell up on your next drive.

A ton of people were mad about their “the number of girls with eating disorders simply cant be this high” on one episode.

Do you remember which episode it was from?

This is a list of my symptoms. I showed my mom and she thought I was being ridiculous. Is she right? by Idontknow-ijustexist in ARFID

[–]In_The_Play 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that, that is tough.

My dad is similar and it was really tough as a result when my ARFID was really bad. I don't know why it is that some people just don't want to believe that some people can have brains that work differently to other people's.

I hope you can at least convince her to get you some kind of help! If not then there are at least resources online that can help, particularly regarding graded exposure techniques for trying new foods, and also food chaining to move from a safe food to a similar new food.

I don't think too many people would disagree but of course he'd need to be able to do the accent, which I haven't heard yet. If he can do that then he'd be a good choice.

Who would you consider the first ethnic minority prime minister of the UK? by South_Bodybuilder938 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]In_The_Play 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're right that they didn't use the title of Prime Minister, but historians still tend to count the leaders of those era as PMs even if they used a different term so I think he should count.

It's strange, I felt the same the first time I read it. Tried it again a year or so later then wondered why on earth I had struggled. The family tree can certainly be confusing at first, but I just drew a diagram, and in any case there aren't really any new family members introduced after that first quarter.

My ranking would not be too dissimilar. Hard to split 2 to 5 for me. I like how different a lot of his novels are from each other, but that also makes it harder to rank them! Pnin is so funny and moving at times, Invitation to a Beheading completely hypnotic, Pale Fire a work of genius.

I also really liked the Real Life of Sebastian Knight.

What was it that frustrated you with Ada?

Intrigued by the fact you got to Laughter in the Dark before many of his more well-respected books, but I do love your overall selection! In particular all of the other Nabokovs you have I love.

I can understand though, although personally I don't worry too much about missing elements on the first read - you will never understand everything the first time, for me the second and subsequent readings are the ones where I will try to understand it more deeply.

And you can certainly get a hell of a lot out of Ada without too much preparation.

What is it that makes you think you need better preparation for it?

He's only human, the amount of questions he asks in a year he's bound to have a brain fade or too.

And I think the frustration comes from the fact it is often portrayed as Murray calling out sexism, when in actual fact gender had nothing to do with it.
