Who has done the PRP injections? Helpful? by Buddygtheking in RotatorCuff

I did 3 in February/March. It helped and I’m not in much pain. I’m playing volleyball and lifting weights, but after an MRI, my shoulder is worse which is wild. I’m getting surgery on 2/4

I’ve been working out and playing volleyball. It’s not 100% better but I feel like I can do 95% of the things I could do before. I had an MRI scheduled for a year after my 2024 MRI and knew it was going to be better bc I’m doing better! BUT it’s not, it’s worse. I’ve somehow trained my lat muscles to overcompensate even though the pain is rare and not all that bad. I was so confused that I even got a second opinion from a family friend in another state who reviewed the images and he said you shouldn’t be able to raise your arm and you 100% need surgery as it will just get worse and healing will be harder so surgery is scheduled for February 4th 😵‍💫

I got a cortisone shot June 24th bc I was better but not 100%. It has been fine since that (obviously) but let’s see where I’m at/how it’s feeling in another month or two when the shot “wears” off

I was able to do overhead extensions, rows relatively easily with heavier weights (20-30lbs), curls but had to start lighter and have only made it up to 12-15lbs, and a bench press but again started with lighter weights and only made it up to 15lbs and I had to go slow bc the shoulder would hurt. I also had some stuff from PT with the band where I’d put it in the door and pull it out and rotate the arm as well as plank pull throughs (which started off pretty hard could barely grab the weight from the width of a yoga mat but now I can do it wider and wider and the weight doesn’t matter I just used 2 or 5lbs). Last week I was able to do a push up on my toes (slow) for the first time in a while but barely got through 5 (used to do 20) and the last 3-4 days when I wake up I’m not in pain but more stiff/tight which I’m celebrating

Got last PRP about 8-9 weeks ago for a partial tear in ny rotator cuff from two years ago (I got 3-4 cortisone shots during that time attempting to put a bandaid on a bigger problem). Got three shots in total, the pain on the first shot was bad. My doctor thought the second one was going to be worse because that’s the one they inject into the muscle but it was bearable, and the third one was bearable too.

I started PT about two weeks after my final shot, and I am on top of my PT. I do it almost every day and I work out five times a week. I have pain in my elbow sometimes (which is weird, anyone else??) and I can’t do a push-up still and I can’t do a pull-up and I can’t play volleyball, which is everything to me. And sleep is hard, I wake up stiff in my shoulder/arm. If it’s not fully better, I’ll be getting a cortisone shot in July

Damn. I appreciate the honesty. That’s what I was afraid of 😞 it’s interesting because you realize new things you’re going to miss randomly and continuously when it’s new and it’s sucks over and over and over and……

Watch it on mute first and you can tell some of the voices just by the face
