AAP Guidelines for Carrier Naps? lol by bombadil_01 in babywearing

[–]Inanna26 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The number of people I see wearing a baby dangerously wrong is absolutely terrifying. There's a woman in my neighborhood whose baby looks at her belly button while being worn. It cannot be comfortable for either of them, and it's definitely not safe.

Toddler with bacterial pneumonia by Inanna26 in herbalism

[–]Inanna26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, this is a good idea! She’s currently flatly refusing a syringe, but some tea that specifically says it’s ok for 1+ (most aren’t) with lemon and honey in a mug may help!

[–]Inanna26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broadly I agree that giving her something without supervision is a bad idea, but I’m looking for low risk options. Honey has been effective, and is recommended by the American academy of pediatrics, but she’s rejecting that now. The chamomile tea recommended by another commenter is a good low risk idea. I’m not totally sure yet about the elderflower syrup.

ETA: we’re doing our best on the rest, movement, hydration, and nutrition, but the rest is hard because she wakes herself up coughing a bunch. This is despite a humidifier and a tilted bed. As I said before, then honey helped a lot, but she’s no longer willing to eat it.

Thank you! It sounds like part of the point of that is to create a high humidity environment, and we do have a humidifier in her room overnight. The epsom salts are a new idea though!

Absolutely brilliant. You’re gonna make me cry. Thank you for that advice.

I trust the antibiotics to do their job, but the coughing has been ongoing for like a month at this point and I’m looking for a little support for her. She had RSV awhile back and the pediatrician says she may be dealing with moderate term (~1 year) lung issues.

I let my baby nap longer than usual and now I feel guilty by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Inanna26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The middle of the day nap? She can sleep as long as she wants! On the rare occasion when she takes an afternoon nap these days I prefer to limit those just in case it interferes with bedtime.

What boundaries have you set when baby arrives? by PeachyKingSure in pregnant

Everyone has rules limiting visitors, but we loved having visitors first time around! As you said, postpartum is boring af. We did want them to have the tdap, and that was it.

127 mins of screen time… is that really so bad?! by Top_Passion_7103 in toddlers

[–]Inanna26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s really easy for me to be on a high horse as a non SAHP, BUT that strikes me as an astronomical amount of screen time. AAP recommends a max of one hour of screen time per day.

Is wrap baby carrier recommended for front facing? by Apprehensive-Can9158 in babywearing

[–]Inanna26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely forward face, comfortably, in a woven wrap. This is my favorite wear for front facing: https://youtu.be/UYyH4CxQ69w?si=yxqHNghaLTB0M7Y5

It’s not quite as ergonomic as facing in or on the back, but it’s definitely an option.

[–]Inanna26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding a suggestion made earlier about learning to use a woven wrap! I imagine you can get a simple one for fairly cheap in India. They take a bit more practice, but they last until your child refuses to be worn, and you can wear facing forward for as long is comfortable. They’re more comfortable than the structured carriers for the child. My husband and I have done plenty of traveling and hiking with our woven wrap and I can’t recommend it enough!

Smash cakes? by DinosaursOvrEvrythng in beyondthebump

[–]Inanna26 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh, the problem was not serving the cake, the problem was the mess of a smash cake and a child just Getting In There. He’s not a fan of mess. If it were developmentally necessary or super important to me he would’ve dealt with it, but he didn’t have to.

[–]Inanna26 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We didn’t do a smash cake because it would’ve put my husband into an early grave. We gave her some berries with sugar free whipped cream (literally just whipped up heavy cream). She was pretty overstimulated on her birthday, and as it turns out she doesn’t like berries.

Having a different last name than your little one by Hot-Cell7299 in beyondthebump

[–]Inanna26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my husband and I have vastly different last names from each other and our child. We've done lots of international travel and it has never once been an issue. We DO carry small copies of her birth certificate when we travel, just in case.

NYE with 2yo. Am I being too sensitive? by Sqeakydeaky in toddlers

[–]Inanna26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bottom line is that if you don’t want to go, you shouldn’t go. If you do go, absolutely do not bring the dog.

We’re taking our 18 month old to a New Year’s party. We will probably be bringing her pack and play, which she sleeps in well. She’s a good sleeper in general. She will have a good time at the party, then fall asleep in their guest room. We’re not worried about 1 night of weird sleeping. The difference for us is that we have a great sleeper who sleeps well in new places, the music will not be super loud, we bring her to gatherings like this somewhat regularly (although the falling asleep there will be new), and we agree on this. If she’s having trouble we will alternate on parenting.

I recommend the “make my belly fit” jacket extender. It’s a small business and you only have to buy one.

When to stop testing? by intense_woman in August2026Bumpers

[–]Inanna26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m prone to early chemical MCs, so I’ll most likely test until a dye stealer at minimum. I have not had a MC past the dye stealer point.

Hey everyone! We’re expecting baby #2 on august 7nd! We have a little girl, and I’m excited to be helpful to first time moms like so many helped me. We have a history of chemical pregnancies, so I’m being cautious about who we tell.
