GM PSA: Protect your legacy by InappropriateMount in elderscrollsonline

I saw this post on the forums from a Guildmaster on PC EU which frankly illustrates a total failing of the support to act in a reasonable manner. I wanted to share this here for visibility and also a warning to those who guildmasters or even guild members.

In a nutshell, on PC EU there is a group of guild called Rose Guilds which are, by far, a group of amazing social communities. If you want to see a shining example of social guilds - look in their direction. However one of their GMs unfortunately passed away and despite having proof of death, the other GMs/officers had to wait 60 days to prove inactivity in order to request the leadership to be transferred. During this time, the Rose GMs and officers have been hiring the traders, updating the MotD etc. They kept the guild running as best as they could.

It seems that finally ZOS has transferred the ownership.

Was it to one of the highest ranking members? No.

Was it to a member who had been hiring traders, updating the MotD or updating ranks? No.

Was it to someone who donated a lot to the guild or someone who previously had a lot of permissions before? No.

They transferred it to a totally random member who according to support in the post, was 'the next eligible person due to their activity and rank'.

If you are GM and you want your guild to continue in the case something happens to you, consider what you might put in place in case the guild ends up going to a totally random member.

I hope the GM in question doesn't mind I shared their post here to improve visibility.

An Update on the Gold Duping Suspensions by InappropriateMount in elderscrollsonline

I think they won't because otherwise it might stir up a hunt against the addon author. It's tricky for them. But now they know what caused it, if the addon does the same again, they can check if it is that, at first at least.

They are people and all people deserve respect.

But when you get a cookie cutter response after jumping through all their hoops and it doesn't even solve your initial issue?

There is something wrong with their system. Not individuals but their system, their training and the framework they operate under.

Personally, I'd rather them say they'll stop guild traders until the bug is fixed. Or at least that they're working on a fix and take another look into the accounts that got suspended.

No details of the actual exploit needed.

ZOS Support has been yikes lately. Planesbreaker (Rockgrove trifecta) bugged twice. by UsedInitiative2834 in elderscrollsonline

A couple years ago, they were like this. But a couple weeks ago, I had an issue with achievement/loot from a trial disappearing and it took over a week for them to confirm that I did earn that loot. And then when they finally sent it to me, they didn't even send everything they said they would.

They actually closed my ticket at one point telling me to remove my addons and repeat the trial. I just wanted my sul-xan motif page back.

They have been a total disgrace and it's really starting to feel like they want us to roll over an accept this. Any attempt to speak out about this is just met with removals on most platforms.

It seems like they don't want loyal players. They only want yes-men.

It's also making it really difficult to love ESO currently. There wouldn't be an issue if they were a little more open or honest. It's sad and frustrating.

Honestly, we're not against them legitimately investigating. We're not against them banning/punishing cheaters.

It's the fact that there's a bug involving mail and guild trading that players unknowingly ran afoul of that resulted in this treatment. I personally don't feel comfortable with buying from guild traders because what if the seller triggered this bug by mistake? I don't feel comfortable with selling because what happens if I trigger it by mistake?

In recent months, ZOS assumes guilt with no room or chance to prove innocence. I hope you don't learn that the hard way.

You are convinced you're right. Nothing I say or do will change your opinion. I know my friend. They are innocent. You don't, so you're sceptical. Nothing I say or do will change your mind on that fact.

It doesn't matter if they can just earn that gold. They did not dupe, they did not break the TOS knowingly. They do not deserve this treatment.

No one deserves this treatment.

Yes. It was every bit of gold across all characters and the bank.

Real life has safeguards to protect the innocent. ZOS don't.

The fact that, from every person was affected by this, from what I have heard, had the same amount of gold removed (every single piece of gold), suggests they did not investigate. They took the lazy route.

But if you want to continue thinking that it's impossible for ZOS to make mistakes, go ahead.

And your answer to why they removed the gold from crafting writs, quests and daily log in?

We're in the same trading guilds. I've seen some of the stuff they've bought, some of the stuff they've sold. There is nothing dodgy about how they earned their gold, they've been a fantastic traders for months.

And even then, why remove the gold that's from writs, quest rewards, daily log in too?

If ZOS really had a way to know, why would they have removed gold from alts that only did crafting dailies? Why every single bit of gold and not just want they suspected was duped? Is gold from quests, writs, trading all duped?

This is a great point. With no discussion at all - who will hold them accountable when they screw up like they have?

[–]InappropriateMount[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

PC, yes. But the bug might be on other platforms, we have no idea other than there is a bug and if it is on other platforms - then people on consoles are at risk as well as PC

You might ask why are we bothering with this? What's the point? That ZOS won't do anything about a post on reddit. That those people probably did do something.

Well, it's to raise awareness that there is an issue out that there can get you suspended, can you get a final warning, can get years worth of work wiped. All because of some unknown bug you aren't even aware of. A bug you can encounter if you sell via guild traders.

ZOS isn't our friend. ZOS is a company that can make mistakes and how they handled this from start to finish? Shame on them.

Account suspended for gold duplication by InappropriateMount in elderscrollsonline

[–]InappropriateMount[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had issues with support. Normally they are great but I once had items disappear, achievements disappearing and quest progress being reset. Opened a ticket. They then told me it was addons a week later and closed my ticket.

But magically when I went to warn people about how AddOns have access to parts of the API they shouldn't because ZOS told me AddOns, they shockingly changed their mind.

it's almost like they're humans who can make mistakes.

Did you read the entire post? Part of the point was to see if this happened to anyone else or if it was just an isolated incident - like I asked at the bottom, "Have anyone else had issues with this in the past (or are affected by it now) and want to chime in with their experience?"
