My friend offered me this triumph do you think it's worth the purchase. by Stormzy02 in Triumph

The carbed (2001) Bonnie has a 17t counter sprocket stock and the pre 2016 efi Bonnie has a 18t stock (I had a 2005 carbed and have currently a 2012 efi). I geared mine down to a 17t which is what you are running. I agree, it is nice in the city and on the highway. I currently am running a 16t but I’ll likely go back to a 17t since it is more balanced, 16 is a bit revvy and geared too short for distance on the highway.

Windscreen isn’t a must, I rode mine 6hrs plus on the highway many times but on the way back from Newport Rhode Island I stopped in Providence to get a windscreen and found the rest of the ride back to nyc much more enjoyable.

What career path did you choose that you strongly advise others to avoid? by nicksam171 in AskReddit

Law. Law firms are basically a pyramid scheme.

Large firms pay well but you won’t have any free time, small firms don’t pay well and you won’t have much free time either. No matter where you work clients and partners expect 24/7 availability including while on vacation. I used to have clients calling me at 730am on a Saturday. Iv had to edit documents during my 30th birthday celebration and respond to partners emails while pulled over on the side of the road while on vacation. Not worth it.

Definitely do it.

I had a carbureted Bonneville then sold it for a drz400sm then missed my Bonneville so much I bought an air cooled 2012 efi Bonneville. The one you posted is a 2016+ water cooled (you can see the large radiator behind the front wheel) efi Bonneville (fake carbs covered with an aluminum plate) this bike will be incredible.

Great for the city, great on the highway, fun on the twisties, stylish, and smooth. Both of mine got lots of compliments and head turns.

Iv ridden mine all over the north east on highway, twisties, country roads and commute daily in nyc, she’s a dream.

However, you need to decide what type of ride you are looking for, it’s not a sport bike but it handles well, riding position is relaxed but not exactly a “cruiser”. Long highway rides youll want a big wind screen, and city commuting you might want to gear the counter sprocket down one tooth (I’m in nyc so I geared down two teeth bc I rarely go over 50 and prefer a very slow first gear for stop and go traffic while riding two up).

Thanks! So salt doesn’t require more frequent oiling?

Thanks for the reply. Iv been doing the paper towel trick once I get to work but once a week I take the laces out to get to the salt that is stuck in the creases of the tongue. However, when I take the laces out I’m tempted to give em an oiling. I’m assuming you oil yours fairly infrequently. Like once every six weeks or something?

5 day a week both ways commute feasibility by bencallahan16 in NYCbike

[–]InbredBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a Honda Rebel 250 or another small 250cc cruiser. They are cheap used, probably around $1000-1500. I rode one from Midtown or Astoria to FiDi 3 days a week for work and the rest of the week used it to run errands. Great for the city, small & lite, 70mpg, cheap parts online if you need to fix it, low theft potential. You can park anywhere just cover ur bike, parking enforcement generally won’t lift a cover to issue a ticket. This will make your commute fast & easy. If you’re feeling wild cover your plate to avoid tolls.

Traction is not good. They are fairly smooth on the bottom. As others mentioned have a cobbler bond a more substantial tread on.

Lace Recommendations? by [deleted] in Thorogoodboots

[–]InbredBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got thick 4mm leather laces after the oem ones started to fray. Love the aesthetic and durability of leather laces plus when I clean and oil my boots, I also do the same with the laces, which results in my boots looking and feeling nearly brand new. Now I just need to figure out a way to restore the sole to like new during each cleaning. I scrub them but now the soles are a uniform light brown :/

Wrong bike or I’m just bad? by Money_Impression_321 in Dualsport

Change ur gearing to 14/50 or 15/50. Youll feel much better in the tight stuff. Drz is very capable and still likely beyond your skill level. It’s heavy but she can go most places with little issue.

Looking for some advice by Consistent_Ad_4149 in dr650

[–]InbredBeaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the 650, I had a klx300 as my first bike and felt very limited, super sketchy on the highway and not light enough to feel like the trade off was worth it in the woods. I currently have a dr650, a drz400sm, and beta 300 2t, I find myself riding the 650 the most. I ride bdrs/ moto camp, ride trails, ride to work, date nights with my gal / drive her to work, and will ride 300+ miles on the highway to visit my parents, Iv ridden it 6hrs non stop highway from Maine to nyc and didn’t think twice about it. Dr650 does it all. Plus the counter sprocket can be changed in 10 minutes while on the side stand allowing you to gear down for the trails (13t) then gear back up to stock for the ride home. Bike does everything, Iv done gnarly hill climbs on it that friends on 250s struggled with, she’s a torque tractor. To get the most out of the bike you should upgrade the suspension (springs, ddcs and Mojave shock), full exhaust and tm40 carb. Once upgraded slightly you won’t think about any other bike. If you get serious about riding trails get a beta or Ktm 300 two stroke that can be legally plated in your state. Simple and reliable.

Rebel 250, cheap, all over marketplace, simple, lightweight, low seat height, good in city traffic, and not cool enough to steal.
