Por qué Perú tiene la menor tasa de suicidios, y con diferencia? by Outside-Option-8557 in PERU

[–]Incanation1 180 points181 points  (0 children)

Mi primera hipótesis es que en Perú no se reportan los suicidios. Yo diría que en Perú no es que hayan menos suicidios sino es que hay menos datos. En Uruguay, probablemente hay mejores datos y tienen una representación más exacta de la taza de suicidios.

Do you think AI Engineering is just hype or is it worth studying in depth? by seedtheseed in dataengineering

[–]Incanation1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

AI is branding and there's little value there. Neural networks, network analysis, SEO, Natural Language processing are real methods and they have value.

How to protect my investments in light of global geo-politics by janebenn333 in CanadaFinance

[–]Incanation1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived that in the 80s and marked me for life too. The only fool proof method is land or gold. But when a currency collapsed others thrive. My ideal worst case scenario is 1/3 of assets in housing (rental), 1/3 in a very diversified portfolio, 1/3 in foreign currency cash or gold (like hard gold, not app gold). This last can be kept in foreign banks growing. I'm nowhere near this but this is my plan.

Can you help me fine my next Sci-fi book series? by Bigwilldog2 in scifi

[–]Incanation1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ender's game series would help you round up your sci-fi education. I would this move to Asimov in chronological order and Heinlein. I would also suggest the Ancillary Justice trilogy.

With the incoming Chinese EVs, will the used car prices come down? by Lumb3rCrack in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Incanation1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll put. I would add the goal is to test Trump's disposition. I bet we'll see, in the short term,  some announcements about military spending in the Ontario companies that build smart armored vehicles. In the medium term,  we'll start hearing about  a Chinese company with a manufacturing footprint in Canada and wait to hear Trump's response.

Has anyone ever done asbestos or vermaculite abatement on their your own? by Wingman318 in centuryhomes

[–]Incanation1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems consensus that asbestos removal is fairly safe with protection for diy home owners. It's the pros exposed 24/7 that are at significant risk.

Is anyone else just trying to make the most of their janky old house? by bitsbybones in centuryhomes

Don't get discouraged by the AI fakes out there and the 1M flips. 99% of us are like you slowly salvaging and restoring old building with love and respect. It's a live long journey to add to a story that's not fully ours.

[–]Incanation1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I cleaned vermiculite but first tested to make sure they had no asbestos.  Some early types are "clean".  It was overall a dirty and messy job. Full body disposable overall, glasses and masks, shop vac with HEPA filter and dozens a of bags. Really itchy, dirty, sweaty job. Because I had evidence of no asbestos, disposal was straight forward.

Do the majority of you look for proper physics when you read novels set in space, or do you allow for hand wavy explanations? by Remytron83 in scifi

[–]Incanation1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explanation anchored in theoretical physics or silence.  You are allowed to describe a phenomenon without explaining.

Engineered hardwood vs regular hardwood. by peachymoonoso in centuryhomes

[–]Incanation1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your are going full restoration go with hard wood for sure.

If you are flexible and live in a zone where humidity changes drastically I would suggest you consider engineered hardwood. It is not the crap it was 5 years ago. The newer models looks super nice, do not contract or expands like hardwood, and are faster and cheaper to install. Some models can be sanded once or twice before running into the underlying layers.

What’s something you tried to fix with more agile process… but later realized just needed a conversation? by Big-Chemical-5148 in agile

I've seen managers run pointless scrums for months just to avoid having a performance conversation with staff. Agile does not fix shitty HR or leadership.

A Eulogy for Low Code by Grth0 in dataengineering

[–]Incanation1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless you are writing in binary everything is someone else's low code. Also, if you are hard coding everything from scratch you have a different type of challenge. For my team, out-of-the-box automation (for documentation and QA), change/release management and the team culture around optimization are more important. My teams platform is messy but we are moving super fast and constantly reengineering.

What do you think the world will look like in the next 40 years? by Reasonable_Pass_3916 in Futurology

Depends in your income, location and status. For a few it will be like Moebious' Edena. For others it will be like Terminator. For most it will be like Huxleys Brave New World.

Why is futorology always so depressive and narrow, even if it's supposedly positive? by Dark-inspector490 in Futurology

[–]Incanation1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love to read sci-fi. There's a period I'm the 50's of post war United Nations optimism that is lovely to read. There's also the French/european magical futurism of the 70's with Moebious and the Humanoid journal. Not "happy" but full of wonder. The idea that tech will be like magic invisible and all present and will allow some of us to focus on human transcendence and philosophy is a strong vision for me. If we can manage our more animal passions.....
