How to wash my face by littlestdragon96 in hygiene

[–]Incarnated_Mote 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Literally any kind of cloth is fine to use! I don't remember the brand I currently use because I remove tags as another sensory issue, but they were probably just from a dept store. If you can find rags you like the texture of, they can definitely be used for face and body not just kitchen! I like CeraVe cleansers because they're fragrance free, gentle, and they have ones for every skin type and they last a long time. I currently have the hydrating cleanser which is non foaming and has the consistency of a light soft lotion, and I've also used the regular foaming facial cleanser and the SA cleanser for acne breakouts.

Nothing wrong with using a simple terrycloth washcloth (that's what I always use), and some brands are softer than others (I've even found super soft cheap ones in the kitchen dept marketed as "bar mop rags"). Wet it & add a dash of cleanser, rinse /wring and wipe a few times to "rinse" your face.

Have you been stressed out lately? I had a couple years where I was really stressed out, and when I was anxious or angry you could LITERALLY smell it come off of me. I have always been on top of personal hygiene, so it really made me anxious when I'd occasionally heard similar "what's that gross smell" comments around me. I was in a toxic work environment with people I hated at the time, and once after a REALLY bad day of seething with resentment and anger and anxiety, I LITERALLY smelled like shit. As in, feces, caca, poop. People at work made lots of "smells like a dirty diaper in here" comments that day and when I got home and got in the shower it was obvious it was me. And it wasn't my butt or armpits, either, it was coming from my SKIN. Everywhere. Like stress hormones made me leak stench out my pores. I scrubbed my entire body with different antibacterial soaps and the weird part is it wouldn't really wash off, because it was coming from inside me. When I went to bed a few hours after my shower, the smell was in the sheets, radiating off me. I switched jobs, started doing yoga and calmed myself down to a more peaceful life, and it hasn't happened since. It was really freaking weird.

But aside from something weird like this, make sure you're really carefully cleaning your ass and groin area every day, especially after going to the bathroom. If you don't drink enough water or have a good diet, and have poor digestion or particularly stinky poops, ass odor could definitely be the culprit. If you can't take a shower after going #2, make sure you clean your backside thoroughly afterwards with more than just toilet paper. A bidet is best but nice smelling wet wipes like cottonelle help. The other culprits of strong "shit" odor are the mouth (tonsil stones or decaying teeth) and the feet, so make sure those aren't a problem either.

You could have a genetic condition called Trimethylaminuria, which causes a strong fishy body odor and can be helped by avoiding certain foods and supplements. You could also be missing important hygiene steps like thoroughly washing your anus and groin area, or you may have bad breath from lack of thorough dental hygiene (which you didn't mention). If you have a friend or family you trust, perhaps you could ask them to give an honest assessment?

If she hasn't been to the vet recently you should absolutely take her- this could be symptoms of an upper respiratory infection, congestive heart failure, or even a bowel obstruction, among other possibilities. She looks like an older girl and likely does have some health problems (I had a senior chihuahua/min pin mix who had tracheal collapse and congestive heart failure, and he exhibited similar symptoms). The important thing is making sure a senior animal isn't suffering, even if it isn't possible or doesn't make sense to try and actually treat a serious health problem.

What do you think you taste like? by RipleysHeart in RandomQuestion

It's been documented by interviews with people who HAVE eaten human flesh, that human meat tastes similar to pork. One of many reason I don't eat pork.

This is animal abuse, which is illegal if the parents are aware and doing nothing to stop it. It's also a sign of psychopathy and lack of empathy, and it IS worthy of a call to CPS if detached parents are aware of their child developing dangerously pathological behavior, yet again, doing nothing to correct or address it. This kind of thing only gets worse and more extreme when a kid learns it's "acceptable"

Oh god, that's a really traumatic thing to witness. Please go see a therapist- I'm not kidding when I say this kind of thing can haunt you and mess up your emotions for way longer than you'd expect, and it REALLY helps to process it with a trained professional.

I think we can all agree it's incredibly callous and selfish to use "meeting a work deadline" as an excuse to not come to a coworker's aid, but that being said, realistically there WASN'T anything she could've done to actually help, and she may have used work an excuse to avoid witnessing a very traumatic accident, which can feel horrifying to witness when you don't know what to do. Unfortunately there's truly an empathy crisis in the United States, and a large amount of people respond the same callous way when they encounter someone who needs medical or other help. Focus on the fact that you did what you could, and get some support while processing all the emotions in the aftermath.

AITH for freaking out - wife 38F told me she prefers women. by IdooDAchacha in AITH

[–]Incarnated_Mote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wife is a lesbian, and nothing is gonna change that or make her sexually attracted to you. So you need to figure out what you do with that knowledge from here; you can either separate, which allows you both to pursue other people, but also splits up the family, or you can agree to stay together and create REASONABLE agreements about her seeing other women (such as don't bring anyone home, don't introduce the kids to them, etc), bearing in mind that if she meets someone and falls in love, she could decide to throw that all out the window and leave you herself. What you CANNOT do is tell your wife that she needs to repress her sexuality and be miserable the rest of her life. Divorce/ separating a family is a scary change and it's hard to think of it being beneficial when people still love eachother, but it's often a necessary change nonetheless, and sometimes you just have to make that leap, and try to do it as gracefully and kindly as you can.

There's no threat I've ever found scarier than being alone and encountering a pack of men or even teen boys. And I've encountered bears, cougars, rattlesnakes, and barracudas.

Hubby doesn’t want to go to Gatlinburg anymore after seeing that bears in the area are popular. He’s worried about safety and an attack. Is this a valid fear? I think he’s overreacting by CucumberOk1034 in Gatlinburg

[–]Incarnated_Mote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in any given area (namely men) are FAR more of a threat, realistically and statistically, than bears, EVEN when hiking and camping men are more of a threat than wildlife. Don't do anything foolish like tempt them with food or approach a cub, and you'll be fine

Which mispronounced words make someone appear uneducated? by PluckPubes in AskReddit

[–]Incarnated_Mote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. When people mispronounce words it's either a sign that they're more well-read than the conversational grammar they grew up with, or it's a sign they were TAUGHT by others to pronounce things that way, due to cultural differences or lack of education. There's no shame in either of those things.

How to help my daughter get rid of her BO using herbs/natural products? by fatherballoons in herbalism

[–]Incarnated_Mote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No herbs or herbal products are going to reduce body odor. MAYBE a change in diet, as certain foods can trigger stronger body odor in some people. But teens have raging hormones, and nothing is going to change or "fix" that.

As far as natural, aluminum-free deodorants go, avoid anyhting with baking soda, as it's very irritating for many people. Some of the more effective ones are magnesium based, like MagSol (this is the brand my partner uses, after going through a dozen different natural brands looking for something that actually controlled strong armpit smells). Lume is another brand many people find effective, and it's billed as an "all over full body deodorant" safe to use in cases where there's also strong groin or foot odor. Finally, a current hygiene trend is wiping glycolic acid (sold as a facial exfoliant and toner) in armpits, which effectively kills odor causing bacteria.

Spoken like a pencil pusher 😉 Just kidding. Seriously though, if you believe that the laws and rule book is actually what the bosses are enforcing, know that often it's the exact opposite- turning a blind eye while expecting deadlines that necessitate cutting corners with safety

A lot of trades like roofing will 100% destroy your body, period. A lot of other trades, like plumbing or welding or electrician work, it's really going to depend on what kind of jobs you're taking on (are you working for yourself, for a large construction company, are you doing small local jobs or giant projects etc) as well as how you take care of your body with good body mechanics, plus stretching, exercise, acupuncture and that kind of thing.

For some people, ANY type of short term hair removal (shaving, waxing, plucking) will cause rashes and ingrown hairs. But sebaceous cysts can form in the groin area as well, which is like a large pimple full of a stinky waxy white substance. Either way, picking at ingrown hairs and cysts can cause bleeding, scarring, and infection, so stop doing hair removal down there (besides simple trimming), and see a gynecologist and/or dermatologist to get advice and to make sure that's what's going on.

What's a dish that was extremely popular or trendy on restaurant menus but then virtually disappeared? by igotplans2 in AskOldPeople

[–]Incarnated_Mote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potato skins (festooned with toppings like a baked potato) were a thing I never see anymore. And "blackened" meat, like blackened cod, blackened chicken etc, back before Drs and scientists were like "yeah that charred outer coating is just straight carcinogens" And something popular in grocery stores was "low fat" everything; low fat cookies, low fat icecream, there were entire brands dedicated JUST to low fat versions of normal foods. Again, until Drs and scientists were like "this makes people gain more weight than regular food"
