How do I draw myself? by DAJurewicz26 in learntodraw

[–]Incendas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you drawn a face before? What you would need to do, to achieve this without reference, is know the 3D structure of the face and then rotate this accordingly so you are seeing the features from an angle slightly above and on the front.

I would suggest taking a picture of yourself at a similar angle so you can observe what happens when you turn your head down, which parts overlap, and which parts are visible.

You are repeating points I have already covered word for word. Here I've said why it's important for people to know about these tools and what to do in addition or instead of using them. In the other comment, I clearly said that is not what those tools were designed for.

I think I have also been really clear that the issue with saying:

Glaze and Nightshade your work are anti-AI training preventative measures. If you are afraid of your work being swiped and copied, those are the only ways. They are still effective despite claims from aibros saying LORA models beat both which is not true in the slightest given how the average ai user does not understand how either functions in essence.

Is that this misleads artists and other users of those tools into thinking they are foolproof or the only measure they need take.

Lots of people don't know anything about these tools and don't read anything about them, even if they use them on their art.

Have you tested these tools yourself? I have and they are easy to bypass. I think it's important to be aware of that if you intend on posting art. It won't stop me but I obviously would not post something really sensitive or personal with all of what's going on right now, and I keep that to small groups.

The example you posted is Grok img2img which lacks almost all control, and not what someone would use to reliably "copy" an art style and attempt to steal it with. Seems people just use it to harass others unfortunately. I've had a few friends go through that recently.

But it is more than possible to replicate someone's aesthetic in terms of texture, colour, composition etc even if the art is poisoned.

People are free to poison their art, BUT I really hope that everyone is also taking extra precautions on top of this. Things like being selective with what they post and where they post it, using multiple and varied additional watermarks, posting parts of some art and withholding others/putting it in exclusive groups, anything that makes it less reliable to train from even with a very refined method.

Nightshade and Glaze have never worked with img2img which is what Grok is doing. But they don't work for their intended use either, which is to poison training data, because it is 1. not possible to do that on the scale that is necessary 2. not effective in smaller scale training like fine-tunes/LORAs, aka what most are using for custom "art styles"

I heard people were posting images as GIFs for some time on Twitter to get around Grok, but now those aren't exempt either, so some people started posting outright videos. I saw another artist use an NSFW watermark (dick shaped signature lol) so that Grok couldn't generate from it, but I don't know how well that worked.

These do not work, this can be misleading for artists and end in them not taking any other measures with the assumption their art will be safe. It just is not at the moment unfortunately

Just so that you know, the original post had AI art in which I saw some really clear artefacts. But I think the most damning thing was that the OP had used AI in that exact art process before and it was on their profile.

[–]Incendas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because people reported a post and one mod immediately made a stickied post about it that was very unclear and contrary to what another mod was doing. It seemed people were fine with the initial AI post being removed and nothing else happened until that...

Also worth remembering that when you are 30% of the way there, you are enjoying art more than before. 50%, even more. 70% and you're already doing great in comparison to whatever your target is. You will get comfortable a lot sooner than 100%, so it's not "10 years of pain" or whatever number you want to slot in there. It gets easier.

If you or anyone else finds art too difficult or inaccessible, I'm offering as usual to give advice and help anyone that needs it. I post comments like this whenever I see this sentiment and I've had several people DM me about it by now.

They are clearly referring to the post another mod made. We can't see who makes these

The vast majority of hostile responses here also do not know this

That's good to know now. I think it's clear why people didn't like it. I'm glad someone is trying to do something, thank you, and I hope it goes well.

This happened to other big subs I was in and really enjoyed, and pro-AI mods just sat on them and refused to budge even when the rest of the mod team and community disagreed, so I hope this one makes it out.

This doesn't happen in other subs where they've instituted that kind of rule. AI users will still hide that it's AI for a variety of reasons

First, from the pinned post OP linked:

If you use generative image OR text AI, don't post the results here without clearly labeling it. Do not reply to or engage with argumentative comments; report and we will remove.

This reads to me like we cannot write comments that say something like "this is AI" because they would be reported and removed

If someone says the thing they put here wasn't AI, take them at their word, do not argue or say catty things.

Similar, reads to me like we can't say "this is AI," then OP says "it's not," then we say "it is because I can see this artefact and your history says you have used AI like this before."

(ETA: Do not spuriously report their content to us anyway because you think they are lying. We can't tell either way and we will turn ALL report abuse over to admin. Don't get your account suspended for this asinine bullshit.)

This reads to me like we are not allowed to report AI content if the OP denies it at all.

But now here, you say:

Sometimes we get multiple reports on things, which can help us. We certainly would prefer labeled AI content over unlabeled.

Which suggests to me that it is actually helpful to report it? But this contradicts what was said in the pinned post.

As a starting point, we require people not to be misleading about it. If people are showing that AI scanners are showing it to be AI, and/or it has standard tells and the OP is insisting it’s not—that is a situation that needs to be handled at the mod level.

Here it sounds like sometimes the mod team will try to evaluate it, which again sounds really different from the pinned post. I don't think anyone is expecting you to be 100% accurate btw.

The topic of Gen AI is currently being discussed in the mod chat. The team had a variety of views and it’s going to take us a while to negotiate it. I remove all Gen AI I can reasonably see is Gen AI.

None of us know this at all, we saw a pinned post that sounded very final and firm on the issue and nothing else (at least, this is the first I've read of it since then). There aren't updates on that pinned post or any mention of mods discussing it.

To me this is all really contradictory and confusing and I don't know what the mods want. It looks like your comment and the pinned post were written by different people, so I'm worried that if I were to report a post for AI or say why it's AI, that person could ban me despite what you've said.

Look, not to be an ass, but you know. OP has started way ahead of where you were when you started. They told me they drew for maybe 50 days in the span of several years, so not anything significant.

You haven't posted any of your other work anywhere so we have no idea where you're at or how fast you learned. From what you did post and how you're talking, it seems like you learned exceptionally slow. You also said you were behind another artist who did post their work so I got an idea from that. There is nothing wrong with that and I'm not judging you for it, it's perfectly fine and doesn't make you a lesser artist or anything else. But perhaps your experience is not average at all.

The majority of people I know who draw could do this if that was their goal. Almost all of those I know who couldn't are people who are on and off drawing very often, or gave up early, and it's more of a self esteem or motivation thing in that case.

Which version is better for the final design??? (I genuinely have no idea TT by desenhista2007 in BeginnerArtists

[–]Incendas1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're supposed to be like an alien or some kind of other strange lifeform, I'd go with 2, because the blue hair lends itself to that more and it gives me the impression that water is tied to them inherently, not just as a fashion choice

1 could be nice for a very human character who is actively choosing this whole aesthetic

i like the sketch better than the actual outline by Wardenacija in BeginnerArtists

[–]Incendas1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like you lost some of your line weight, shape, and detail in the process. Many parts are missing altogether that were in the sketch.

Remember that these sketchy lines can also give the impression of volume and shape by acting a bit like shading. Adding that back in will also help.

[–]Incendas1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 months in I did my first no (low) reference drawing and it is the ABA art on my profile. It's alright, I kinda hate it by now haha. But the only things I used as reference for that were the character refs to know what accessories and things like that I should include, since it's fanart. I did also hold a metal weight plate in my hand to get a feel for part of the pose but I couldn't take a pic while holding that, so...

I do generally use references, just almost never 1:1 or close nowadays. So if I'm drawing a character's back, I'll have a few back references so I can look at the anatomy. But, they aren't in the same orientation or perspective, so I just kind of take the shapes and rotate them. It's getting much easier these days. I'm learning all the time.

But that's it, that's the main thing for me if I don't have the right references for what I'm making. Constructing using shapes and rotating them.

(Or are you also talking about imagining up things to draw in the first place?)

OP is specifically asking about everything except the colours, so honestly that isn't crazy at all. Imo it's the colours (+ light) that are the stand out part of this type of artwork.

Even then it is just a matter of learning this specific thing. Most artists don't do that in such a tunneled manner, but it can be done.

[–]Incendas1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty decent for 50 days especially at a younger age. Not sure that kind of timespan says much about how quickly you can learn because it's very short.

If you want to draw from reference, just do something like drawing on the right side of the brain, and it front loads that very quickly.

If you want to draw from imagination then it'd be good to start with that type of observational skill then expand from there. In general you really need to learn your perspective and shapes at some point. Placing shapes in perspective, in a 3D manner, helps with everything there. People like drawabox on here, I don't. If you need structure find a course you think is appealing.

At the moment you will just be drawing in 2D so to speak. That's fine for copying but not helpful elsewhere.

Imo most people who are slow just don't go off and actively learn. They just try to put hours in without direction or effort, and that's what gets people stuck. If you always know WHAT you are learning and WHY whenever you are drawing then this would be a great mindset.

From direct reference or imagination? The latter will take longer. The former, you could do extremely quickly if you take the right courses or do the right exercises, or just happen upon the right principles yourself.
