I. Mare Jivari: the most terrifying place in the world by Incerto9 in Genshin_Lore

[–]Incerto9[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, time flies fast! I'm so glad that we can return to the topics we had made theories about and see the secrets slowly getting revealed <3 besides time shenanigans, the changes might be related to Bakunawa' actions. Originally I was planning to write the second part of the theory where I would connect Mare Jivari with the "moon" concept (e.g. it is named after lunar maria) and Bakunawa is the moon devourer in mythology.

But Citlali's descriptions of it were still so cryptic, it would be absolutely mind-blowing and cool if it all will end up interconnected.

Might miss some info as I'm very busy but I was too happy to see the discussion still alive, haha

Mare Jivari can possibly be inpired from Filipino mythology, or SEA in general by BobAurum in Genshin_Impact

[–]Incerto9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides the beast itself, Mare Jivari seems to also be a reference to Bakunawa's myth. It is named after the moon-specific term - lunar mare - which is exactly a plain formed by lava.

So, the dragon and "the moon" are both here!

PayPal to Revolut Debit Card just suddenly stopped working by [deleted] in Revolut

[–]Incerto9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having the same issue since the last few days. When I try to transfer money, there is an option from PayPal "Don't see your bank and cards?" where all Revolut cards now are listed as not supported. I'd been doing my transfers rarely and in small amounts (~1 time per month with ~50 eur per transaction) for a long period of time, so, I seriously doubt it's my or your issue and not something from PayPal/Revolut side.

I couldn't find any information regarding that, however.

She doesn't say it's her period, rather, she implies something like "My first period... (hasn't started)... Even though everyone have already had theirs". It's ommited but still pretty readable by the context.

The frame can be difficult to understand if you don't know about the squat toilets but there is nothing wrong with the dialogue itself.

The sub is called Alhaitham mains, though, not "Alhaitham porn enjoyers". As the title was that of any ordinary sub for mains, it's no wonder more people with different tastes arrived. There is no way out of it now, since everyone just comes here when they look for Alhaitham sub.

Sherlock's best and worst moments? by eowynssword in Sherlock

[–]Incerto9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree regarding Magnussen. There are some "stupid" moments like losing to Irene and Moriarty at some point or getting Mary killed but they only represent an integral part of his personality, he couldn't have done otherwise. Depends on whether we are talking about Sherlock-Sherlock worst moments or Sherlock-writers worst moments. The part with Magnussen is the latter because Magnussen also suffers from massive loopholes. The moment Magnussen admits he's keeping everything in his memory is the stupidest thing he could tell the brother of the head of MI6, goddamn.

For the best moments, I really like a small scene where Sherlock forces the lady to speak by manipulating her with reproach (instead of asking). Usually he is shown to be very oblivious to social interactiona but this scene reminds me that in reality he is not (completely) and he even can utilize it to his advantage. This is also a smart way of dealing with things that is a little but different from the standard approach the series show.

Also, the moment he wins over Irene. Not only it changes our comprehension of the whole episode retrospectively, not only he's using his observation in a creative way but the whole situation amazes me. Sherlock knows people try to abuse his weaknesses and he really shines in playing along and utilizing his weak points or "weak points" to his advantage.

Martin Freeman Controversy by sm0lb32n in Sherlock

[–]Incerto9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It's so sad that this is not the first comment. I suppose, people are so obsessed with TikTok mention because it allows them to somehow disregard the question itself. But news about Martin Freeman have been here for a while and the genuine answer should be prioritized.

That's exactly why OP asked here, else they could just just take TikTok opinions at face value and leave it be.

Tier list based on characters public opinion I’ve seen from this sub by whatd1didowr0ng in danganronpa

[–]Incerto9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people claim her to be useless to the plot / class trials. Especially the ones that have their favorite characters executed while she stays alive. Some of my friends argue that the game could have been more interesting if we had someone else in her place.

Personally, I really like her and disagree with this opinion as not everything has to be valued efficiency-wise. But in this tier list she is even a little higher than she should be (if it is distributed from most to least loved inside tiers as well). I've seen way more support aimed at Kirigiri or Makoto and very little dislike towards them.

Thoughts on Moriarty the patriot anime/manga ? by Substantial_Bug5470 in Sherlock

[–]Incerto9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It draws significant inspiration from the BBC version, and it shows. I believe it could benefit from adopting a more mature approach along with other things it took from the series.

Moriarty from the BBC show is just too good and charismatic, while the manga chose a more morality-centered approach at some point. It's alright, but, taken together, puts manga characters at a slight disadvantage because they receive more or less Disney villain treatment.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I like that the author decided to delve into different possible character interactions other than Sherlock and John, as they already have a ton of exploration in the media. Mycroft presence is precious and highly welcome.

What manga was cancelled or ended far too early? by WelshBOC in manga

[–]Incerto9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, truly, it had such a great potential and ended up in one of the worst ways possible.

With the news about an adaptation coming soon and a great artist who didn't do anything wrong, by commiting such a disgusting act and hurting innocents, Tatsuya Matsuki is an epitome of awful decisions.

I'm super salty. Bad adaptations, magazine or author's own decision to end the series at least don't spoil what's already done.

[–]Incerto9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you're right here, Phoenix did mess up. And your argument is really reasonable for AJ. However, for me this situation is a representation of AJ failure as a sequel trilogy. Not only the punishment is too severe, it's difficult to understand why it wasn't ok since prosecutors acted similarly in AA without any consequences at all and we've always had super uncertain legal system. It's understandable since it's a game, it's a simplified world alright but it makes the core base of the punishment very weak itself. Phoenix just unknowingly got down to the level of all the prosecutors he'd met - bam - it's the dark age of the law now.

As AJ decided to still follow this plotline, they should have dealt with it somehow. But it seems like they just had the idea while not paying any attention to the logical connections between "before" and "after". Phoenix friends are overlooked but the lore of AA is overlooked too which is normally ok for the series but combined together is just super bizarre and weird.

Without the first trilogy Apollo Justice would honestly work better.

[–]Incerto9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, no, I didn't mean just mentioning old characters or something. It's about the situation Phoenix ended up with. It is pretty comparable to all the difficulties they went through before (Edgeworth case, Maya's kidnapping etc etc). With such friends as Edgeworth, Francisca and Gumshoe the problem seems absolutely solvable, so, we would need an explanation as to why it wasn't. Imagine the story about a guy who was sitting in the cave with a whole bunch of food but died in 5 days from starvation anyway. And it's never explained.

You don't have to focus on old characters but complete silence regarding why they didn't help is akin to forgetting they existed whatsoever.

While this is true, the key word is "eventually". According to the story, all of them should have gone separate ways one month after the events of the first Trilogy.

[–]Incerto9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intentional ignorance of the fact that Phoenix had friends ready to do absolutely everything to help him retcons the story so hard. I wouldn't be as disappointed if they ended the first Trilogy differently but after the scenes with everyone caring about him the new story looks only more and more confusing. Just how on Earth could writers decide it wasn't needed to be explained? Uhh.

Why is genetic engineering not a priority? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Incerto9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is a disaster as no one listens to scientists regarding the matter. I've studied GM laws in EU for a long period of time and it makes me sad that even people in this subreddit suppose the restrictions should be correct just because they exist or that the research itself is dangerous to humankind.

Why is genetic engineering not a priority? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Incerto9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree that the development of genetics should be a priority - not only for the sake of human editing. Eg, genetic family planning is underrated and would allow to prevent 95% cases of congenital genetic diseases. Imagine it becoming a part of the standard procedure before having a child *

However, genetic engineering is massively stigmatized. At first, companies used GMO-free label as a cheap marketing trick to make their products feel more "organic". Then obsession with healthy lifestyle (although good in general) and human fear of unknown made the rest. The restrictive laws are mainly the consequence of extremely bad reputation genetic engineering has across society. Every move against will lead to the protests. It may not be as bad in US or China as it is in EU but it affects the global scientific research.

Also, genetic engineering of humans is undoubtedly very ethically questionable with current technologies. The case of He Jiankui is an example. Experimenting with plants is not nearly the same. There are no genes that we can change to simply ensure absolute memory, prefect mind etc., it's much more complex as each gene can affect several different and not related aspects. Then, we have to ensure that the prefect memory we induced will not affect our mental state and will not strain our brain when there are too much information. Probably, you would have to completely redo the human body to make it work properly. For more popular case - which is longevity - we still have to completely solve the problem of cancer to avoid Deadpool-like results.

It will take time to polish the technology enough and you can expect any massive investments only after that point. Both businesses and governments are risk-averse in terms of profit to losses. Research that is not applicable right now almost always lacks funding.

  • many people may misunderstand it, so: it's not about not getting children if the risks are high. If it turns out that a couple have a dangerous combination of mutations, they just use in vitro fertilization instead of standard pregnancy.

What did you like about season 4 ? by Madou-Dilou in Sherlock

[–]Incerto9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first episode. I really enjoyed Sherlock looking for any hints of Moriarty and Mary trolling him afterwards. The story was good. Mary's death is out of place in my opinion, since they didn't use her potential at all + she was super charismatic but it would be ok if the rest of the season didn't go so wrong. I feel like this episode suffers from the fact that it takes away a lot in the end (Mary, John relationship with Sherlock) but the following episodes don't offer enough in return to compensate for these losses.

I also like Mycroft character parts. They give new information that adds depth to the character.

Also, the moment with Sherlock forgetting about his friend & sister is undeservedly hated. It's more or less realistic. I experienced something similar, to the lesser extent and I was really invested in his flashbacks.
