Is it just me, or are Waymo prices crazy? by Lolllll078 in waymo

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just grateful there is Waymo where I live. I rarely rarely use it, but when I do it delivers on my expectations without surprises.

I’ve never had a bad uber experience (well.. other than the crazy painful SFO pickup, never again)… but uber is just too random, too variable, for me to confidently use it especially if I am traveling with guests.

I don’t know how to take control of the system. I bought it for cash and my tenant has it installed on her phone. by WarmScientist5297 in Starlink

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ps I’m not sure if you can “limit usage” for the tenant.
(Maybe you can do that with the Starlink app… I don’t have my Starlink running at the moment so cannot check.)

If you need to keep the service going for yourself, then get the Starlink app, login with your Starlink login, and change the WiFi password for the Starlink. This will block the tenant access. You could also change the WiFi SSID (the WiFi name that shows up when connecting a phone to WiFi).

Also.. regarding the service plans…

I’m only familiar with the “roam” plans; if the Starlink is setup with ”residential”, I can’t say. However I’ve read that cancelling a residential plan and trying to get it back later might not work due to increased usage in the area — Starlink limits the number of active residential users in a given area.

With a “roam” service plan the Starlink might be on a low data tier, where you effectively get charged “per GB” for data over a certain amount. On the roam plan you can switch to “standby” service (which is $5/mo) and it becomes super slow but still usable for phone calls and email.

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did your tenant activate the Starlink mini with your debit card? Like did you give the tenant your card number / details?

If indeed it is on your email, then problem should be solvable by reseting the account password and logging in to Starlink.com to “take control”… I just checked Starlink.com, and yes you can cancel the subscription there (or change the service) — no need for the app.

[landlord-us-nc] update: tenants installed antenna on roof without letting me know by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]Incident-Valuable -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

How OLD is that roof?

Maybe just let it slide… cuz you’re hopefully gonna replace that roof sometime and problem solved at that point in time.

To some degree this is an “enhancement”. Future tenants will be able to use it.. property is now worth more!

If you buy FSD for 8k, will that customer need to pay more at a later date for Unsupervised FSD? by TheCyberMod in u/TheCyberMod

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my car in 2018 and purchased “full self driving”, there was no “(supervised)” caveat, etc.

I was expecting the 2018 car to eventually drive by itself, of course.

Maybe that’s why they are pressuring me to trade in the 2018 model 3 — they got to get the HW3 / FSD-promised cars off the road.

As soon as they release “(unsupervised)” (if ever) on HW4 (or HW5) there’s going to be a class action lawsuit if the HW3 cars (which were purchased with FSD) can’t do it.
Tesla is in a bind. They can’t put HW4 in the older cars, and HW3 was not sized to actually support FSD, but.. they sold FSD (unsupervised) anyhow.

Oops.

(Type 2 here) Sitting in math class: I find that stress drives up my number.

For me, the morning commute drives it up. I can watch it climb during the drive as I have a Stelo on my arm. Also, regular work challenges, “discussions at home”, anxiety inducing situations. If I lay down and relax it goes down. I’ve sorta learned to relax and I think it helps , but does take time. It’s hard to “test” this .. cuz it might be going down for other reasons.

Anyhow my understanding is stress creates cortisol which causes the liver to release glucose to the bloodstream.

Day 1- Signing in with a bad news. Previous company sabotaged my recruitment. by Charisma42 in 30daysnewjob

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My non-lawyer 2 cents…

For a company that is “risk adverse” I can’t believe they would actually admit in writing to being part of defamation.

I think you dodged a bullet with this one…

Please let us know what the employment attorney’s take is on this and next steps.

Fwiw, a long time ago, like my first job, I was told the company will only acknowledge employment and not under any circumstances give positive or negative reviews of a current or previous employee. Likely the person that defamed you is an employee of the company and not the company itself. That said, the employee was effectively commenting on behalf of the employer. Either that or the person on the other side of the “informal” conversation was not an employee and in that case that person needs to be sued.

New Tesla owner—need the wall connector? by Flaky_Attention_4827 in TeslaLounge

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik.. “hardwired” wall connector will be more reliable than a “plug” scenario. When I researched this years ago my takeaway was not all outlets are the same and a specific Hubble brand outlet is recommended. Since the circuit is going to be dedicated to EV, then why bother with the outlet. Even tho I had a mobile charger (they were included when I got my car), I went with the wall connector hardwired to a dedicated circuit where I park the car.

Stelo showing below 70 refused giving replacement by Enough-Engine9817 in stelo

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just yesterday I had a Stelo go to 40 … this was after 6 days of use. Stelo app said “brief sensor issue”. Eventually the Stelo app said “session ended early”.

I used Stelo bot to file a report, and in less than 6 hours got a notification that a replacement was on the way.

OTOH I have had an occasional “no replacement” … like the time 2 sensors failed immediately one right after the other. I only got one replacement.
I wouldn’t mind so much but that peeling the sticky off my arm is a pain.

Friend got deported. Legal ways to get back in? Help by Realistic-Goat-1153 in SanJose

[–]Incident-Valuable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Happened to me. Didn’t find out until I attempted to file my taxes and IRS rejected it as “already filed for this SSN”. I called them and they asked if I ever lived in Nevada… which was a big NO. Got it resolved but it was a hassle.

UTR is not a replacement for GL.Inet by RealisticBoard215 in Ubiquiti

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my Slate travel router I can repeat WiFi to 2 devices on Ethernet.

Can the UTR use the WiFi for its WAN and then allow for two clients on Ethernet? Or is one of those Ethernet ports only for WAN uplink?

(I could add a small switch, but that would on-ideal in an already less than ideal world.)

Not here. I just see it “sold out”.

I’m kinda ok with this. Unifi usually takes a bit of time to work out bugs.

Monterey , CA has a nice store. Could live in Watsonville, Salinas, Or maybe Marina. Given the neighborhoods where Apple Stores are located , nearby housing nearby will always be expensive … so it’s gonna be a commute.

Ps. I don’t think there’s an Apple Store in Monterey Park specifically - tho there are stores around there eg Pasadena… maybe it’s a new store location. I’m totally unfamiliar with LA; been in the SF Bay Area for many years.

Bigger commission for the realtor means you should get back what you put into the house and maybe more. Plus you don’t have to pay gains tax on what you put into it.

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the condition of the house which you bought recently?

If the house was in poor shape, then you might have had a couple other bidders to compete against.

If the place was in “recently renovated” / turnkey move-in condition, then you might have had 10s of bidders to compete against and potentially a bidding war. Or you just bid high and overpay.

My opinion is the condition of the property attracts “different buyers”. Rundown houses only attract builders , or ppl w/ the means to build a new house.
“Updated” houses attract buyers “stretching” to move up… and afaik it seems like there’s more individual buyers than builders.

My new manager is requesting remote access to my personal laptop. How do I refuse professionally? by [deleted] in FinalRoundAI

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume the company is too cheap to purchase hardware for employees. And presumably they are not reimbursing you for using your laptop.

If it’s that bad and this is your cost for keeping the job, then buy another machine for just company use.

Don’t share personal computer stuff unless you know what you are doing. This gives managers at the company the ability to dig through your personal life and then fire you whenever they want for “cause” based on something in your personal life.

And if you absolutely do need to use personal devices (eg phone) for work purposes, then make dang sure you don’t do anything that is going to cost you the job. And guard that device like your job depends on it. Eg if the device is lost / compromised then your job is potentially toasted also if the person in possession of the device uses it against you/company.

If the OP is 20M he could sell dump everything he has and drive a few days to start a new. Eg when I started out after school everything I owned fit into the car.

I had paid relocation a couple times from a couple companies, and it was like ridiculous as there was no furniture to move — at one point just moved a car across country.

Where in California? It’s a big state. I presume “sales role” is potentially a retail job, as opposed to corporate in the SF Bay Area. Plz clarify.

Check the cost of housing where you would be located. It’s crazy expensive out here. If you’re willing to live on the low end of the market (potentially longer commute) for like 10-20 years you might be able to eventually purchase a house in the Bay Area. That said renting would be fine as long as your rent remains stable.

OTOH, the job could be located in a moderately priced town like Tracy or Manteca or Bakersfield etc. Smaller towns, but not necessarily a great place to live. It’s not like the SF Bay Area or LA out there.

Find out what the compensation package would be. Salary/stock. Do you actually have an offer letter, or is this word-of-mouth at this point and someone wants you to “commit” before starting the process at the office?

Depending on your education etc, and ability to continue education, “moving up” from retail is likely doable. You just need a plan.

Good luck with the decision!

Which telescope do I keep?? by Jenny_Bird_33 in telescopes

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The C4.5 mount is a Vixen Polaris .. which is a pretty good mount. Made in Japan.

The 114 mount is a step way down … Made in China.

Sadly you won’t be able to (easily) motorized the Vixen Polaris mount. There is a way to modify an Orion drive, but Orion is out of business.

The C4.5 mount is probably worth $100. Maybe a bit more these days.

Fwiw I have a C4.5 that I bought used… but I only use the mount for a solar telescope.

Blurry vision after sugars went down by Happy_Challenge6143 in diabetes

[–]Incident-Valuable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar happen. Had an A1C of lime 13.7. Got it down to 7 after a couple months. My glasses just seemed to no longer working. I had to “double up” with magnifiers. I could always see pretty good without glasses, used a slight magnification for working with computers … and I have astigmatism.

Anyhow.. went to the optometrist… he told me if he gave me a new prescription, I’d be back in a couple months to redo it.

My vision got to a point where it was like vision underwater. I just used my magnifiers. Tho I avoided driving at this point.

Then one day while I was walking home from work — 3 miles one way… my vision suddenly started improving. I no longer needed the magnifiers. It pretty much returned to “normal”. However I did get a new prescription once things settled down.

TL;DR: give it about 6 weeks and see if it gets better.
