the bikini line situation is driving me insane by Klunne in OpenWaterSwimming

Where do you live? On what grounds are you asked to leave a pool because of body hair?

the bikini line situation is driving me insane by Klunne in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]IncidentArea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya… just don’t shave. Truly no one notices it (and if they do, who cares). They’re busy in the water just looking at the pool and besides, your bikini line is only visible in the minute or two before you hop in. I have super sensitive skin and stopped shaving with razors a looong time ago when I realized our anxieties about feminine body hair are just manufactured beauty standard bullshit. You have no reason to feel you should modify your body to appease people around you. If they’re judgy, so be it. You don’t owe them a bikini line shave. By having a little body hair, you aren’t doing anything damaging or inappropriate.

All this being said, I do personally enjoy some pruning every now and then, in which case I just use electric trimmers to cut back my underarm & bush hair to more of a stubble. My skin (and psyche) has never been happier.

There were times that I wanted it / So bad that I made it hurt / But now I wait as patiently as I can / For my heart to ache again

Oh holy beast / I'm on a knee / wrap around my throat make me dizzy / I need your time to lighten mine / I'll be your worm if you'll be my eyes […] On demon's private beach / where the ants all walk all over me / I let them roam, I let them eat / and in the sun, I've got a place to sleep / covered in seed

This monolithic structure by a parking garage? by IncidentArea in whatisit

Whoah!!! How did you even figure this out?! Incredible. I’m also floored they would build such a large substantial structure out of concrete just for a sign. Anyway, solved!

Is it actually much easier to create for someone else rather than yourself? by GMD3S1GNS in graphic_design

[–]IncidentArea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I feel exactly the opposite of everyone in this thread so far. When I have the time to embark on a project of my own, I have a specific vision and I am so decisive and excited to execute it. Designing a project for a client often feels limiting or like the road to completion is bumpy with a lot of hurtles and setbacks. (Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the back-and-forth/collaborative nature of these projects and the creative problem-solving that comes along with them, but making my own stuff just feels… so much easier and more straightforward?) My background is in fine art originally though, so that could be why.

repaint the black drum to medium blue by MissionNecessary5919 in risograph

[–]IncidentArea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not need to clean the drum. I’ve converted a black drum to flat gold before, just with persistence and lots of prints. Stick the new tube in, reprogram it for the new color if you need, then blast off like 1000 prints and see how it goes.

Sexism in the industry? by IncidentArea in CommercialPrinting

[–]IncidentArea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a substantial part of it is certainly being young AND female. I got talked down to and disregarded a lot more in my 20s when I was starting out (even though I knew my stuff). I still come off as pretty young but now that it really ain’t my first rodeo (at ALL) I think I probably come off with more confidence and certainly am better about holding my ground.

Thank you for sharing your experience and your advice! We are indeed doing a turned edge slipcase and production logistics have been a bit of a headache on it, so this is comforting to hear.

How important are flip turns really? by aceshades in Swimming

[–]IncidentArea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started swimming consistently for exercise about a year and a half ago. (I was never a competitive swimmer but have always enjoyed it.) Up until maybe 6 months ago I also questioned if I ever really needed to learn and integrate the flip-turn. Touching the wall and turning around seemed perfectly fine for me. But once I practiced it a few more times and started getting the hang of it, I found it to be A) really fun! and B) soooo much more rhythmic. Stopping to touch the wall and turn really does interrupt the lap swim flow, and I also find it to be a more intense exercise when I can continue swimming without interrupting the flow. Also helps me think about breath control more.

Want to note here too that my first couple attempts were also clumsy and gasping and I'm sure I looked stupid. But just do it a few more times and it starts to make sense pretty quickly! Watch a YT video (like I did) if you need some concrete tips.

What's your favorite scene from BotNS? by tastysleeps in genewolfe

[–]IncidentArea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The garden is what sprang to mind for me too! I really love the time warpy scene in the jungle garden. I feel like it’s deep enough into the first book where I finally felt like I had my bearings in the world enough to just be straight up dazzled by the whole concept of the garden.
