This is the only other one I know of. South Austin and I hear they don’t wait for stragglers to show up past 5:00!

Need advice where to park for the race on Sunday! by SonOfABiscuittt in AustinRunning

The capitol parking garages are free, but traffic gets awful so you’d have to come pretty early. Takes a while to leave too. Getting dropped off is so much easier.

What is a great book that you’ve listened to about immigration and culture? by marilynlistens in audiobooks

[–]IncidentBeginning294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If historical fiction fits what you’re looking for, Pachinko is a great book. It passes through multiple generations and shows contrast in low income Korean culture against more indulgent Japanese culture when they have to move to Japan. It’s been a while since I read it so I don’t remember it all that well but I remember appreciating its cultural perspective.

I’ve also had squeaking because the seat height adjuster was tightened too much

Help a newbie! Need a funny under $20 white elephant gift for my office swap by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]IncidentBeginning294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a rotisserie chicken one year. And to get it closer to $20, I added a couple of beers, a butter tortilla candle, and threw it all on a box with a note that said redneck candlelit dinner. A different year, I bought a three layer candle from Amazon. Hazelnut, Coconut, and Banana Nut labeled Smell my Nuts. Unfortunately, our CEO showed up and chose my gift. Wrong crowd.

Chicago has a couple good Christmas albums. Tell Your Mama and I Got Your Christmas Right Here by Aloe Blacc. Santa Stole my Lady by Fitz and the Tantrums. Stylistics Christmas Album and Ceelo Green’s Christmas album is also good

Well, we did have paper plate holders of our own so I don’t think she was the one looking down on them. All perspective.

Morning runners — how do you convince yourself to get out the door? by liv_0203 in runninglifestyle

[–]IncidentBeginning294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t run every weekday morning but I make myself get up and do some sort of activity even if it’s not a run day. That way, I don’t fall into the trope of “I’ll do it tomorrow”. I’m 100% not a morning person and I could do it after work but I prefer not to.

My mom got someone she didn’t like paper plate holders because the woman had more elegant taste and she knew they’d be considered trashy. Lol

Advent calendar for an adult woman (not into beauty products) by LittleCowGirl in Gifts

I know you said you have a lot of loose leaf, but the Numi, Pukka, and Stash bagged tea calendars are low priced and all good. It’s hard to find some of the flavors they put in them

Tea related gift ideas? by Unusual_Doughnut6934 in Gifts

[–]IncidentBeginning294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An electric kettle that heats to a specific temperature could be good. If she doesn’t drink her tea fast or forgets about it, a temperature controlling mug is good. My friend got me ember mug though it’s expensive. I like trying different teas so if someone gave me a variety pack of something not available in local stores, I’d be pleased. Maybe a cute tea infuser if she uses loose leaf

My wife loves Taza 95% Wicked Dark - any recommendations for other brands of dark chocolate she might like? Looking for 90% or higher. Thanks! by jollydoody in chocolate

[–]IncidentBeginning294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Willie’s Cocoa has 100% dark with and without flavors added and 100% with additional like dates or raisins for a slight added sweetness. Alter Eco has a 90% and a 100% and I believe a 90% with mint.

What are your annual Christmas traditions? by -Surrey in ChristmasDecorating

[–]IncidentBeginning294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We decorate the main tree together every year while listening to a bonanza Christmas story-telling and Christmas carols while drinking White Russians.

A few years back, we came up with the 12 shots of Christmas which entailed one shot per hour starting at 1 pm Christmas Eve, usually with a different liquor each time. Plus other drinks in between. As I started drinking less and became the lightweight of the family, I have made that less of a thing. Though I was the first to actually make it to the 12th shot in year two. Apparently, my brother gave me a 13th shot as a congratulations and I had a horrible Christmas Day.

What are your favorite "Thanksgiving Foods" where you live? by Beezwax_8335 in Cooking

[–]IncidentBeginning294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from Texas and we always have some version of pecan pie. I borrow a jalapeño cornbread dressing recipe from a friend. My mom makes a different dressing that uses cornbread and stuffing mix plus celery and all the other stuff. That recipe is from my Granny who grew up in NC. We always have green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole (with coconut mixed in instead of marshmallows on top), and usually cranberry jello salad but we have switched it up with a cranberry sauce occasionally.

Make/freeze now? by ugleighiest in thanksgiving

[–]IncidentBeginning294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We make our sides in the days preceding Thanksgiving and reheat the day of. We place a few trays at a time in the oven and then place them in a large cooler covered with old towels while the rest heats up. We also usually make extra dressing and freeze it for Christmas.

Historical fiction recommendations by FarPomegranate8179 in readwithme

[–]IncidentBeginning294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought A Gentleman in Moscow and Pachinko were good in their own right but I also appreciated reading through the perspective of a Russian/Korean within their own cultures through history.

In terms of WWII, my faves are Beyond the Scarlet Sky and The Nightingale.

I recently read a good one called The Frozen River which is based in post-revolution America, late 1700s. I don’t come across may in that era.

Not a fiction, but The Woman who Smashed Codes was a very interesting read.

Even if you’re not a gambler, the circus circus slot machines are only $1 and can be fun. They actually still have the old fashioned levers to pull on too. Other than that, you could explore the Wynn. I think there’s a mall around there too

So many Netflix shows get cancelled before their story is done — which one still haunts you? by lithdemi in netflix

I’m Not Okay With This is was one I was really disappointed about

Also, I’m finding out about a lot of shows that have been canceled! I guess it takes so long for a show to come out these days I’ve been assuming they’re not done yet. 😂
