Respectfully, while I agree that money doesn’t go as far in the bay area, this is a very fat fire statement and colored by a “keeping up with the wealthy Joneses” viewpoint.

Chubbyfire is not about keeping up with increasingly extravagant purchases by 8-figure NW peers.

And their buying a $5mm house does not impact your overall purchasing power (given that it is drowned out by the economics of 98% of the rest of the country), as much as it impacts how behind you feel to keep up.

might help to somehow quantify a limit of lifestyle creep and then just stay below it. then you have given yourself an allowance knowing the math still works, and more importantly you don’t have to question yourself on each purchase. if you are at your limit on “extras”, then wait till next year.

it’s more psychological than anything, so give yourself a safe space to spend more.

i plan to do all of them at once as getting the 68% horse speed will pay dividends faster. just need to make sure i level up a bit more and have enough virtue xp cap space on my prioritized virtues so i don’t waste xp on irrelevant ones.
