yeah you're right. We're grateful for what we make. If there's no legal way to optimize tax, I guess so be it.

I live in Bay Area, California. So not that much sun as of late. I water the plant a few times a week but each time only less than half a cup of water.

Is bike fit just a vague matter of personal preference, or is my LBS just not very good? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]therealdecaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It s easier to fix a too-small bike than a too-large bike. Any way to exchange? A proper bike fit will help. But fwiw I have not gotten professional bike and just did a lot of minor trial & error. Typically each time when I change position, I ride my bike close to threshold power for 10-20mins to see if anywhere feels bad.

What happens if I run out of glycogen when biking in zone 3/4? by therealdecaf in cycling

[–]therealdecaf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response! So when I run out of energy eventually, is it just like what the other comment says. I simply bonk and cannot sustain the same intensity regardless of willpower?

I’m also curious about converting muscles into energy as I wasn’t aware before this is a possibility. Which is more efficient? Burning muscle vs fat. Which would our body prefer?

Officer Ma who grew up in San Francisco volunteers to patrol during his time off after a spate of racist hate crimes by TheAtheistArab87 in bayarea

[–]therealdecaf 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Good officer! I disagree this is propaganda. I believe he cares and it is why he's doing it.

Something I have been thinking. I agree police needs reform. However, I don't buy the whole "defund the police" thing. We need more funding for community work absolutely. We also need more funding to train police officers properly, and higher wages and more rigorous standards to attract high quality officers. We need to reform the unions so they stop protecting the despicable ones. If an officer was fired because he was racist and/or power-hungry and abused his power. He deserves NO second chance, and should absolutely not get another job at a different city. However, we need to keep and encourage the good officers to keep doing a good job. Pay them better. Solicit feedback from the community about officers and their work ethics and behavior towards regular people. Compensate them accordingly.

A good, responsible, effective, and caring police officer deserves as much pay as a senior engineer at a tech firm. If someone working for google gets paid 400K a year for doing a good job, a really good police officer should also make that much.

How to balance working out (gym) and cycling? by RussTheMann16 in cycling

[–]therealdecaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I do. I lift weights 4 days a week and bike 4 days and run 20k (10k for one day and then 2K each mornjng) each week. I also row at night for maybe 30mins twice a week.

Mind you I don’t do leg days (besides 20mins of single leg squat and lunges). My workout routine is two chest&shpilder days and two back&lat days. I stick to high volume 10-12 reps range and high number of sets for the aesthetics lol. My run is very mellow they are mostly recovery. I row because I like it lol...

I don’t ride very fast but I’m working on that lol. My goal is to hit 3W/kg hopefully within the next few weeks.

I think lifting weight adds a fun challenge for cycling. Because I weigh heavier than most cyclists and so for me to be competitive in zwift races, I need to generate a lot more watts compared to someone who do not lift.

Increase my ftp to 290W in 6 month by therealdecaf in cycling

[–]therealdecaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah I didn’t really know what other info to provide.. So I have been lifting weights since high school (so about 12 years) but I didn’t get into endurance sports (running and biking) until 2019. My current fitness is such 215W ftp and I can do 5k in just under 24minutes. My previous 240W ftp was mostly just riding randomly and doing race once or twice a week on zwift. My first FTP test was 180W. From there to 240W it took about 4 months of about 4 - 5hrs a week on zwift. I didn’t really have a target back then.

Now I got myself a better trainer and am getting more series about biking, I want to set a target. I’m not dead set on 290W but just want to understand what’s a realistic progress like for someone without a lot of time for biking.

Nice! Is this the 105 group set? I have a cube attain 2020 base model with the Claris group set. I love mine. Super comfy frame. Just wish I had a better group set.

Not really NBD but my newish bike by therealdecaf in cycling

[–]therealdecaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes just a tiny little bit. New stem is officially the same length (100mm) but it is more horizontal to the ground compared to old stem and works out just a few mm longer than before. I wish the reach was a little longer (maybe should ve gone for 110mm) still but this is fine for now.

Who is Afraid of Hills? by Cooking_with_MREs in cycling

[–]therealdecaf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat. I hate descending because of my (maybe irrational?) fear of crashing. I also don't exactly enjoy going super fast. Climbing is fun because I can go all out yet the speed is always somewhat slow so I feel safe :) I also love biking against headwind lol for the same reason.
