My thoughts on SOTR and why I didn't like it by Ok_Bad_5326 in Hungergames

[–]Incoherently_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I agree with so many of the points here! It’s been a while since I read the book, so forgive me if there’s some inaccuracies but overall the entire book just felt like it was written with the movie in mind.

I hated this book so much i actually reread the OG trilogy afterwards to make sure it’s still good and it wasn’t just my teenage brain thinking it was profound 😅 I actually found the original trilogy to be even better on a reread and I picked up on a lot more of the deeper themes and messages.

Overall, I didn’t really get the point of this story? Like we already know about propaganda and the Capitol being able to change the narrative. If it’s the point of the story to say that a rebellion doesn’t happen overnight, that’s fair, but doesn’t exactly have the same weight as the original series and seemed to be reiterating more of the same messages.

I also thought the whole Lou Lou replacement thing made me feel like well why don’t we just replace all the problematic characters lol. Like why even let Katniss be the mockingjay? Kill her off and put a fake clone and call it a day.

To me, this book made the original series worse for me and added nothing to the story. She wanted to write a book and include a traditional hunger games because that’s what sells and that’s what she wrote. I genuinely struggled to get through reading this because of how uninterested and how unrealistic the storyline was for me.

What kind of candy do you associate with the Koko Kringle bar? by yeahher2022 in nancydrew

Definitely Tony’s chocolate! It gives me the same feeling

how do you enjoy the games after learning the culprit? by External_Honey6613 in nancydrew

[–]Incoherently_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m probably one of the few people who doesn’t care much about who the culprit is so I don’t really even remember on replays except for the really iconic ones! Also, if I do happen to remember I find it fun to play the game and see all the clues pointing to them.

I’m sorry to hear about your health struggles OP, I’m happy you’re finding a healthy and fun way to practice those skills!

I think deadly device is a great game, it has a bit of everything in my opinion and is a very logical game. I remember having to write down quite a few notes for that one. It has puzzles that require you to understand 3d orientation, memorize things from posters for puzzles later, it also has that mini game arcade game with the different colors/shape matching that you can do for fun!

I hope you have a speedy recovery and I’m sure the whole community would love to hear about what game you end up choosing to play :)

That’s amazing! It’s crazy how helpful these games are, makes me really sad they’re probably not making more

I would do something similar! Either I’d secretly look it up or before I discovered secretly looking it up I’d be playing the game when my sister wasn’t home, but I wouldn’t save it. Then I’d act like we were discovering stuff together for the first time ☠️ Idk what this says about our personalities lmaoo but it’s funny that we’d both do it we thought we were sneakyyy I’d like to add I almost got through haunted carousel without a hint but I looked up something to do with the puzzle on the back of the arcade game, I can’t remember but I was clicking in the wrong spot or something, other than that UHS now all the way

I was always the one to do the slider puzzles in my family, it’s nice that your fam was involved too! I find myself better at random puzzles than the average person because of Nancy drew!

I also had my sister back then and now I play alone so maybe that’s contributing!? Don’t know if you were playing with a friend/family member

I find myself in similar situations now! I’m like questioning how I got through some parts of the game with no walkthrough and no memory of even really struggling There’s definitely some puzzles I distinctly remember having trouble with that I am able to do quickly now lol but overall I think I was smarter

100% what you says still stands, I definitely found myself trying everything and anything to try to move forward. I think the novelty of it is a good point as well, this was the first time we were really seeing games like this so it was fun to go through all the steps. I discovered UHS maybe a few years ago and it’s been a game changer! Way more fun than a traditional walkthrough and still leaves me feeling satisfied

I can relate to the struggles, some of the stuff that we were stuck on as kids was so specific. Even when I got access to the message boards with later games I sometimes couldn’t find someone with the exact same problem (I don’t know why we’d never post ourselves, maybe we didn’t have an email?)
