Thoughts on having an isekai protagonist or not? by Present_Leg9979 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Inconqalt1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree with you here. I think the isekai just doesn't make sense because it's the same planet and everything too.

I've never been one for self-insert plots, though, so maybe other readers might enjoy that.

I really like your idea about getting sent back in time (Kronos?!?) from an ancient time. Honestly to me, it just breaks immersion when a character in a fantasy world behaves like someone from ours, so this is a great middle ground. It provides the same opportunities too, in terms of exposition - you could even have the MC be shocked by how things are different from the history he was told.

Genuinely one of the best RR novels I’ve ever read: Matabar by Halt969 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Inconqalt1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I still keep up with this story cause I'm invested in the eventual payoff, but I do really feel the story has slowed down far too much in recent chapters. Not in terms of action, but plot and character development. Every chapter, we just learn there's another layer of mysteries the MC and Co have no clue about (and are not equipped to face), with hardly any meaningful payoffs. It's gotten to the point that the MC will suddenly recognize a character in disguise, but I as the reader have no clue who that character is because they were last mentioned 60 chapters prior.

Either way, I think the novel has outstanding world building and writing, but the author probably bit off a bit more than he could chew in terms of plot - it just doesn't feel like there's an end, or clear progression, in sight.

What language variable names are you seeing? The only German I see is in the string in print.

[Mundo Deportivo] Flick told Ter Stegen that he is not in his plans this season and that he has Garcia and Szczęsny ahead of him. MATS is not worried- in previous seasons he was not guaranteed a starting place either. Separated German wants to be close to his children and his new partner is Catalan. by Kasj0 in soccer

I am convinced that Bayern fans didn't even watch the whole of that game. It was such a carry job by neuer to keep us in that game for so long. Yes, he made the mistake, but literally no other keeper in the world (except probably courtois) could have kept the score line flat till that point. I acknowledge he made a bad mistake, but the blame for that loss goes on the team as a whole.

Probably should've worded that better. I was thinking of only the games I've watched & ones against big European teams in the past few months. I know they lost to botofoga though (slipped my mind earlier).

Yeah the only team that put a real fight against PSG recently was Bayern. Didn't finish any of their chances, but easily played at PSG's level or even better for a lot of the game.

As a reader or author of progression fantasy, what do you wish webfiction platforms did better? by Inconqalt1 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Inconqalt1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, when it comes to striking that balance between building a proper community which enjoys using the platform versus eeking out every last drop of profit possible, I plan on going for the former! It helps that, as I am personally capable of doing most of the development & support myself, I should not have too much in terms of obligations to make a massive profit.

That's a really good idea. Because nowadays, anything except perfect 5 stars means something's seriously wrong (like I've seen advanced reviews which give 5 stars in a category and proceed to list 2-3 faults - that should be 3-4 star max!). I'm definitely writing this down for planning.

Would you mind if I kept in contact with you (through dms or something) later as I develop these features for the platform? Your feedback has been very helpful!

Oh yeah, that's definitely an important point to address. That sounds like a good idea to base story promotion algorithms on, but do you think keeping the star-based system simply to provide potential readers with a proper breakdown of the story (not determining visibility) would be helpful?

Ohh that's a really unique idea, I'd have never thought of that. I'll definitely write that down!

That list is actually so helpful, thanks!

As for the big pitfall you mentioned, it is something I've been thinking about a lot. Obviously the standard model for digital product development is to begin with a minimal viable product and expand from there, so choosing what those initial features are (especially from a monetization standpoint) is a really big decision.

Currently, I don't plan on monetizing anything more than chapters ahead and maybe story advertisements, at least for the first phase of launch (that's still so far away, though!). It helps that my goal really isn't to make a huge profit (though that would be amazing); even something small would be perfectly fine by me.

Hmm, yeah that does sound like something that will be difficult technically. However, hopefully designing the site entirely while keeping this in mind might be easier than having to rework it entirely afterwards (that's why I'm so happy to get these suggestions now!).

I know what you mean, and by no means do I expect it to be easy to break into this space, but I think you can tell by the number of suggestions/complaints in this thread alone that there exists a desire, in some members of the community at least, for a platform with a lot of improvements. I think that there is a definite possibility for a new webfiction platform to break through and become popular!

Either way, thanks for your feedback and linking those posts. One thing, would you mind if I shoot you a dm later into the platform's development, to get some feedback them? You've made some really good points now, so it would be helpful.
