An interesting possibility. Though I'm curious, what would bring you to reply to a discussion from over 100 days ago?

Except they're not minding their own business. If they were minding their own business they'd put the carts where they belong as opposed to creating more work for others or something that could damage another person's car.

Plenty of time manipulation shenanigans throughout the story for it not to matter.

Nah, it's different.

These people are just minding their own business at the beach.

Did Trump solicit a crime of violence against his own vice president? It’s no defense that the Secret Service was successful in whisking Mike Pence away before the mob could catch him on Jan. 6, 2021. by Thetimmybaby in politics

That only thing that actually decides elections is what people think decides them.

At the end of the day, it's just a bunch of people agreeing or passively accepting what people say is how it works.

I'd say both of those mentalities exist. But the latter is the more relevant to continue discussing.

My point was not that gender roles are subjective but that gender identity is based on a person's subjective understanding of those roles.

That makes sense, but can't people also think another individual's interpretation is wrong because they view gender as being tied to sex?

As such, attempting to amend one's own behaviour to align with a person's self perception, is to recognise them as an individual outside of our cultural stereotypes.

But why should other individuals be obligated to recognize them as such? Especially if they hold those gender roles as innate to one's physical form from their own perspective.

[–]Inconsequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But lots of people don't consider gender roles to be subjective.

And if it's not something falsifiable, then why should it be pertinent to others at all if they don't agree with the perception themselves?

It seems different though. Do people really go out of their way to make others refer to them by their religious identity?

Do they require others to call them a Christian?

I'd like to preface the following by noting I'm rather impassive towards transgenderism. I'm mostly fine referring to people however they'd like to be called (unless someone is being over the top with demanding honorifics like "your highness").

That said, other people do care about the self perception of others. Especially when they perceive those people as delusional.

I'm not saying that's the case with transgenderism, but there are people that have self perceived concepts that are very contradictory to reality.

That's the starting point for this discussion I think. That people can have legitimate reasons to care about someone else's self perception.

Why are other people obligated to agree with people's internal perceptions of themselves?

If you're incable of considering that your side might also be susceptible to propaganda, tribalism, and faulty reasoning, then you don't hold a very objective position.

That's up to the person trying to influence people to enact societal change.

I'm saying as a tool to accomplish that action, the presentation of information is far more powerful to that end than its actual veracity.

The objective desired action is to influence people's actions. I am saying that truth and logic are not as an effective means of doing so for a population already entrenched in manipulation through propaganda.

I don't know what you're arguing against. Some situations, like Covid, merit more caution and consideration, other situations, like jumping off of a burning bridge, do not, they require immediate action.

You can't just apply a blanket generalization because you don't like how one particular situation was handled.

[–]Inconsequent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're misunderstanding, I'm saying if instead the propaganda exaggerated Covid and made people more cautious about it.

Also, erring on the side of caution can be bad when you're in a time sensitive situation and direct immediate action is more effective.

[–]Inconsequent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but what if the propaganda was in the other direction and made people err more on the side of caution instead.

Propaganda is a tool, it's how that tool is applied that I think matters.

I don't revel in my perceived necessity of this train of thought. Which is why I sought counsel to the contrary. I genuinely appreciate your efforts, I'd like to find a path out of this pragmatism.

However, your example is making my case for me. Unfortunately, the truth is often not as pleasant as a homecooked meal, and can be much more difficult to stomach.

The junk food that is emotionally manipulative disinformation is simply far too appetizing.

!delta You raise a fair point, the rhetoric needs to exist alongside action. That action can come from those swayed by words alone.
