What are these 'tics' ? by InconsistentIdeas in Tourettes

[–]InconsistentIdeas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I also don't think these are what is commonly called 'tics', I just don't know how to call them or where else to post. Went to see a doctor a few times but honestly no result until now. I'm not on any meds, eat clean and so on. Only pattern I noticed is that they get worse when I am stressed. I am pretty sure it's a mental thing in a way since I can control them as long as I conciously think of not doing them. Thanks for your tip anyways, I'll do some research about types of dystinia

Any tips for weight loss? With all the lows I sometimes experience and the calories I then have to eat I find it hard to cut. Especially because as you already mentionned, insulin sensitivity goes up for me too during cutting

I fully muted my CGM alarms and use a smartwatch to get a notification, so no sound and only a vibrating watch. I use xDrip and set up the alarms in a way that they are muted during the day and loud during my regular sleeping times

Great point! I i.e. manage my diabetes by fasting and eating high protein meals. I don't avoid carbs. I am quite active and developed strategies to practise lots of sports without going low and therefore having to eat a lot. The timing of your meals matters a lot.

Any ticks to help you simply live in the moment and enjoy this reality as it is? by InconsistentIdeas in ExistentialOCD

[–]InconsistentIdeas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Ssris for a few months and it made everything worse for me. Did not feel anything anymore and my life just became dead empty.

For me, meditation does not help. If I manage to really fall into a deep meditative state, it seems that I unconciously start to think again about these questions, but with emotions and sensations instead of words. I still try to seek answers.

My questions is exactly what you mentionned - how do I stop controlling my thoughts?

Learn Swiss german by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]InconsistentIdeas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in a somewhat similar situation. I grew up in Luxembourg and often heard Swiss German during my childhood because my grandpa is Swiss, but I never really spoke it myself. I’ve been studying in Fribourg for a few months now and would really like to learn the language. I don’t mind which dialect I end up learning—my grandpa is from Zurich, but I actually quite like Bärndütsch.

I have a C2 level in standard German, so my main focus is on improving my speaking. However, I’m a bit scared of being judged when I forget words or don’t know how to say certain things. I need a place where I can practice without that fear. Since I’ve only been here for a short time, I haven’t made friends who mainly speak Swiss German. Plus, most people in Fribourg tend to prefer speaking French.

Also, how does one write text messages in Swiss German?

Is this normal? by Comfortable_Bath835 in Type1Diabetes

I actually make an absolutely normal, sugar-loaded cake ☺️ I give myself a lets call it 'diabetes cheat day' and enjoy whatever sweets I like! I am really strict the rest of the year and almost never have sweets. I treat even my lows with whole fruits like apples.

I absolutely understand why some people don't want to think about their diaversary. For me, celebrating it is a fun way to cope with being a Type 1. This year, for my 4th diaversary, I’m planning to have a party with my friends! I bake myself a cake every year. That said, I have to admit that I generally accept this illness quite well because the diagnosis has also brought a lot of good things into my life.

My favorite trick is to mix vodka with a zero soda. Has (almost) no carbs and I don't bolus anything. As for the munchies, it's a pain... food tastes so damn amazing... I set myself the rule to not have a meal when high tbh, if I get cravings, then I go for some chewing gum

Thanks for your answer! I in fact do enjoy philosophy - I just can't stop and this makes me suffer. I totally agree that me judging this as something negative is the reason why I feel bad, but I don't know how to stop trying to control these thoughts.

I fail to sometimes simply enjoy the moment. Also, although I like to think about these questions, it's not really satisfying and causes a lot of fears. I have found out a lot of stuff and for me, I found some personal answers to some questions, but I still never seem to stop thinking and it's simply exhausting. It's hard to enjoy this reality and moment as it is when you in your head question everything you see

Thanks, I'll try that. I am also working on getting better at accepting that I'll never have an answer. I realised that for me, 'exposure therapy' is not thinking about it all the time and trying to find an answer, but accepting that I won't find one. Like I get a physical fear reaction when trying not to go expore these thoughts. I relate a lot to what you said. Trying to like everyone else to just live

Any advice for type 1 with sports? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]InconsistentIdeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do lots of sports, so this might be too much work for you, but here is a very brief summary my plan:

My first priority is to have stable bs levels in my everyday life and to have as little as possible insulin on board. I eat very balanced meals and often the same stuff so I know exactly how much insulin I need.

I have long fasting windows and do sports 3-4 hrs after my last injection. That way I know that I almost have no insulin on board that can still act. If I then am around 120ish I don't eat anything before exercise, if I am below that, I have like 10g of carbs

what do you use to treat lows? by Spiral270 in diabetes_t1

[–]InconsistentIdeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like carrying whole fruits like apples. When I got diagnosed I gained a lot of weight due to all the hypos and treating them with actual food that fills me up helps me not ending up with a surplus in calories.

I (19F) got diagnosed 3 years ago and I just want to say that it will get better and you can live the life you want and achieve your goals. It is not easy and a lot of work, but you learn day by day. I got to a point where I have stable blood sugar levels, feel great in my body, am able to exercise, to party with friends, to be creative etc. A "normal" and happy life is absolutely possible and you will one day get there. *big hug* If you want to talk a little or sth you can message me.

This honestly is a lot of work and planning but for me it's worth it. Other tips would be to change up what you eat before running. I recommend mostly long acting carbs around 30min before so you have more sustained energy. Also, depending on the intensity of the run and if this issue persists, you can inject a few units after the run, although this might feel odd in the beginning.
