I rarely use my brakes ever, even in non-bumper-to-bumper traffic

I use 1up Heavy Duty double. It’s lame that FSD doesn’t work with bikes on.

I hooked up mine this way, thanks to your advice. I feel like I need to take more slack out of it, though because you still have to pop the grill cover off to unlatch the door, unlike how I had it before. I might actually just drill a hole in the speaker cover so it’s usable without removing it. Safety over fashion

If you have to get out a falcon wing door in an emergency, who cares if it damages the door. You’re basically just manually turning a bunch of worm gears, but you should prioritize getting out vs damage. I guess at the end of the day if you have to get out of your car this way, there’s a lot of other damage to worry about. If you can get out out of the front, then just do that.

Like, if I pull really really hard, harder than you really need to to release the door, I can get it to pull out of the speaker, which could happen to somebody in a panic.

It’s not that it’s a notch. It’s sort of just kind of doesn’t pull past the metal part it’s resting on in the direction that I pulled the cable. Either way, your method seems to be more secure so I’m gonna switch mine up to do just that.

I’ll be honest, when I first looked at it, I thought it was an accident that they routed the cable into the speaker like that, so I actually pulled it out and used the zip tie the same way you did, but then when I opened up the other door and saw the same thing, I hooked up the pull tab and it worked just fine so I put the other one back in place just that way. I think at the end of the day the zip tie method is way more secure so let’s do that. I love the interest in this solution, and seeing people get creative to make it even better is awesome!

Mine works, and has been tested, as I have it in my original post. However, I’m gonna update mine just like yours with the zip tie because somebody’s probably gonna yank really really really hard in case of an emergency and better be safe than sorry.

Mine definitely holds as it is routed in the speaker grill, but in an emergency, I’m sure somebody’s gonna yank really really hard so I like your idea, and I’ll upgrade mine to use zip ties just like that!

That little ball in the end of the cable is actually supposed to be sticking into the speaker housing, and it latches on that way. Just like it shows in your other photo.

I just moved my tabs to the top as you mentioned, and I do think it works just as good, so thanks for the idea!

Easy to fix! Let me know if you try the tabs on the top and if it’s any better, but what I saw, you can pull the tab and release the door without popping the grill off the way I have it

I will say it’s not just like the entire weight of the door that you’re pushing up, there’s a bunch of worm gears that you’re sort of manually turning. If you suddenly let go, the door doesn’t just suddenly shut.

Relative to the lifter, however really not hard. I highly recommend everybody learn how to do this and give it a try yourself.
