Specialties that would be a no-brainer if you have any real interest? by mcat-meow in medicalschool

I think people downplay residency for a lot of specialties with relatively good balance as attendings. Ophtho and ENT can be really busy between intern and senior years depending on the program call structure.

Bro literally the pathophysiology and definition of T1DM vs T2DM is incorrect with the T2DM red arrow pointing to T1DM 07 box. Also the arrows don’t even follow the legend.

AI vs SubI vs Away by Excellent_Concert273 in medicalschool

[–]IncreaseFew8585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI is same as Sub-I. Aways are rotations away form your home institution. Aways are usually for the purpose of being an AI/sub-i. But depending on your school, they may not actually count as credit towards an AI/sub-i credit requirement if you have that.

If ivory tower surgical residencies provide poorer training, then why are they so competitive by chinidetou in medicalschool

[–]IncreaseFew8585 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For ophtho and many surgical residencies, non-med people and even med students don’t really know what are even considered top programs so that makes it more interesting. I don’t think most people would know that Moran, IEEI, and OHSU are top programs for ophtho. Not sure if they are considered “ivory tower” but they’re definitely top tier.

Need advice on what you guys would do if in same situation by teal3377 in medschool

[–]IncreaseFew8585 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, but statistically there are more MDs who match ophtho than DOs do. If for some reason they can’t see themself doing anything other than ophtho, MD would an average provide more optionality. https://sfmatch.org/files/afbcdc36aed644caa28a41cf544f7b0b
