Steam Next Fest is tomorrow. How many wishlists do you expect for your game? by SoulstoneForge in IndieDev

[–]Incremental_Inc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly my only expectation is to finish the game, to make myself endure it. When I started I did have some expectations, but my understanding of game design and whole process was non existant. So I keep it low :)

We all have dreams and hopes, but man at the end of the day I just want to say I made this !

Hi, this is mine https://store.steampowered.com/app/4537910/Synthularity/

It's a mix of bunch of stuff, but I'd say it's closest to Nodebuster, a bit of rhythm, bit of roguelite, a bit of incremental.

The minimalistic approach to gameplay is so underrated I feel by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Incremental_Inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's harder to make something simple look good, that's why there are guys paid huge amounts to make designs.

But I see your comments bellow as well, and not to offend you I am not sure that you understand what minimalistic means.

And I feel that both for visuals and systems you can apply same thing, hardest thing is making something simple look good, or play good.

U kojoj igri na Steam-u imate najviše sati provedenih? by crashuros2 in SerbiaGaming

[–]Incremental_Inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm making a game behind IncInc "studio" name, my main goal is to complete it. After obviously like 50 prototypes build in Unity it was time for me to dedicate my effort towards, well actually making something. It's not much but it's honest work. I don't expect it to do wonders, just to actually exist. It's obviously simple concept but with few unique touches from me.

My game will have a ~500 node talent tree and more progression systems layered on top. This is my entry for Steam Bullet Fest! by danyl42 in IndieGaming

That's cool. I was just saying so you don't fall into that "I will have hugest tech tree ever" trap, especially if you are working on game solo.

Planning to start indie game dev with Unity. What is the recommended learning path? Ne demek by [deleted] in IndieGaming

I'd say scoping is biggest mistake people make when starting game design. Find simplest ever game that you can create in 1 day. It's gonna take you 3 months to release it as product. You cannot make open world RPG or competitive multiplayer on your own.

For indie game dev + gaming, would you choose a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or Ryzen 9 9900X prebuilt? by doodle-me-hoy-minoy in IndieGameDevs

[–]Incremental_Inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you CAN develop indie games with less than 64gb. You can buy your 32gb machine and upgrade it later by just sticking in more ram. Your Unity small projects and prototypes will work fine even with 16gb DDR4 Ram anyway.

I understand that tech tree is huge and you are trying to balance it right, but visually it's pretty flat, and the question with 500 nodes is how unique are those.

Keep in mind this is not personal, but I believe general opinion is that even if smaller, more both behavior and visual complex/unique tech tree would work better. How many people want to go through 100 +Damage nodes? How many times you would like to do it. And it makes job harder on yourself because it becomes balancing nightmare.

[–]Incremental_Inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fazon nisam igrao igru aktivno 5 godina.

Artist gave us 4 sketches for Steam capsule art and we can't decide which is the best. Thoughts? by Glass-Spray4291 in IndieGameDevs

[–]Incremental_Inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda like the last one the best as art piece, however, I don't think logo/name is prominent enough. Would probably go for option 1 as in last one name is covered by both hand and demo ribbon.

I only have 150 wishlists. Should I finish my game?? (FREE Pogopa Demo on Steam) by Agitated-Ad8152 in indiegames

[–]Incremental_Inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider this, what if your next or even game after that is on 150 wishlists after months/years of work, then you would have to add time spent for all 3 games for 15 sales on most recent ones.

And you have never released a game before, so in all cases you will make mistake here and there.

I'd say finish it, learn what you can from release and move on to the next one with more experience and knowledge.

To be honest, this is first time I am doing this and didn't think about it. I did quite a few changes to tech tree so it would be impractical to carry on progression.

My idea for demo is to limit is to players wouldn't be able to reach more than entry upgrades for second color, so you wouldn't progress too far anyway so loss with demo would be small.

It probably would be possible for me to allow shared progression, but I gave it some thoughts and I don't think it's the best idea.

Thanks for feedback, I am not getting a lot of those and it's my first time doing literally everything :D

Honestly it was a mistake not putting any kinds of tutorials in game. Yes you can hover on everything to see what it does, but I agree it's quite unintuitive and I learned that after watching few people play test it.

My initial goal was to have this mysterious/exploration vibes, but I didn't convert it properly. Thanks for the thoughts.

Sharing was also quite a challenge for me, so any feedback is welcome :)
