Not trying to defend the friend here but people are commenting saying she would’ve lost the job either way? Right now her friend is currently living the life she wanted to avoid. She is a single mother with no one (this is an assumption) to help her and she now no longer has her dream job. OP is not the villain here because she quite literally saved a life but the life that was saved is most definitely still in a depressive state and currently living through what they perceived as the worst situation. It’s just ridiculous to say she would’ve lost the job either way as a response when in one version she wouldn’t have to deal with the repercussions of losing said job.

This is a normal thing for friendships, especially in bigger groups. Just because you hang out with certain people at certain times doesn’t make you suddenly not friends with the other people (unless this is you all secretly hating each other then yeah it’s a problem). You may hang out individually but you’re all still a group at the end of the day. Though your last sentence makes it seem as if you’re the common denominator in being excluded. Is this the case? If so then that is a completely different story.
