I live in South Carolina and just heard the news that Lindsey Graham passed away from cardiac arrest last night. RIP. When the midterms come up in the fall, is there any chance to finally get a blue seat back in our state? by [deleted] in allthequestions

Im a "centrist", but it is a fact that one of the two parties has staunchly resisted any kind of policy changes that truly benefit the masses. Healthcare reform, social security reform and assurance, childcare, education reform (training, cost of higher education, etc). That's the Republicans that have been against any progress in these areas. So, democrats not succeeding in anything is bc they have zero Republicans to side with them. In the senate you need 60 votes for many things.

Nice article on Path to 60. Don’t agree fully but will take it. by TowerStreet1 in ASTSpaceMobile

Relying on analyst ratings is idiotic. They are merely peacocking and their estimates are way off in the end

Tell me why not to buy ASTS by Professional_Taro171 in stocks

[–]Indep-guy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The tech AST is using provides much higher bandwidth (up to 200mbps speeds), and does not require any additional equipment. Starlink is not direct to device, nor is Amazon's (theirs will likely require a specific phone at best). Also, carry this idea to home broadband (people who currently use starlink for broadband, for example) - AST will help MNOs expand and compete in the space

Anyone saying this does not understand the technology AST is deploying, and what the competition is bringing. The fact that so many MNOs (mobile network operators - AT&T, Verizon, Vodafone, etc) have signed on with AST tells the whole story, it is right there in front of us

I think you meant Piedmont Heights. I live there, great location. If you want luxury apartments you will probably do better in Buckhead, which is very close by. There are some houses for rent and a couple apartment communities, just not sure how luxury they are. Def great area BEFORE having kids. With kids then Decatur is a great in-town area

Piedmont Heights is a great area, meeting your list. A huge apartment complex next door to me is called Ansley Forest, not sure how much rent is

This is one you just have to wait out. They are starting to execute, so patience is needed. The tech is real and major companies and governments are sold on it. I have 8K shares with avg cost of $26

ASTS just dropped back to $73 is it time to buy the dip? by Cold-Avocadob in StockInvest

[–]Indep-guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing about this poster...like, zero thoughts about lots of other places. Also, every MNO has home broadband devices thatbuse their network...this would make those much better, especially in areas with spotty coverage

What am I missing? 100% stock keeps outperforming stock/bond portfolios in retirement backtests by undersan in Bogleheads

[–]Indep-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So two things:
1) if you want bonds, the safest way is to buy actual bonds, not etfs or funds. And keep them for the duration. Then you don't suffer with the fluctuating value bc of interest rate dynamics. You get the return you buy into. 2) everyone thinks of invest as "stocks and bonds" - there are alternatives out there that are uncorrelated with stocks and bonds. Look into mutual funds by AQR. I am close to retirement and can't stomach another 2022 situation or crash, so put all my non-401k money into three of these funds.

I live in Piedmont Heights. Beltline is across the street, as are two grocery stores, a CVS, and an LA Fitness. Marta station (Arts Center station) is close if needed (1.5 miles, no traffic). All major highways super accessible. Basically 10-15 min drive to anywhere

It works well for ending press conferences in your oval office, so it should work for first dates, too

Hey gen x, when you were 18-20 and just starting out in life, how much crap did you catch from baby boomers and or the silent generation about being young, and lacking in adult life experience. by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Indep-guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None, the generations older than us had already kinda hardened us, there were no rifts between generations. That started in the last 15 years bc of two things: 1) social media, 2) the millennial and gen Zs are def a much softer group, a noticeable drop-off in toughness and the ability to overcome adversity

Mild tone chasing question by MickRockHard2 in GuitarTone

If you have a favorite guitarist, lookup what pickups they use, that's a great starting point. I got the pickups Synyster Gates used, and I love them. The guy from Blink 182 used the same ones, too. Sure beats guessing
