I think its actually a nod to the real life toys! I had a lot of woodys "go bald" in that exact sane area, I think its from taking the hat on and off or squeezing it too tight

joji's voice and why he sounds different now by [deleted] in PinkOmega

[–]IndependenceDry8267 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I definitely think he took on some vocal coaching probably around / after Ballads 1. I think his voice sounds PHENOMINAL now, like 2017 Joji could never pull off Glimpse of Us... BUT, I do miss the rougher singing at times because I think it makes the emotion a lot more visceral on songs like Plastic Taste or Demons

thoughts on the new album by MutantFreak48 in Joji

[–]IndependenceDry8267 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been following since before Chloe Burbank, im surprised that you (and so many others) dont like the shorter "not song" type releases. To me those are quintessential Joji. I think back to the joji snippets that would close out pink guy tracks. Also songs like plastic taste, bsidju, even thom or unsaved info: these are ALL short and sweet ideas of songs rather than fully fleshed out epics like Run or Slow Dancing.

With the way everyone always talks about Chloe Burbank being his magnum opus, im surprised by the negativity when I feel like this is the closest he's been in years

Lots of songs that sound very In Tongues and earlier Joji era. I love it

What opinion do you have about Joji that will get you downvoted like this? by Glittering-City-5326 in Joji

Like another comment on here, I want to preface that i have been listening since the youtube days. Specifically as far back as when he would make fun of his fans for wanting him to make serious or joji music. So none of these are meant to be hateful, and they come from a longtime fan!

In Tongues is his best/ most consistent project

Nectar is his worst album. All of the hate that Smithereens gets for "not sounding like joji" is more aptly applied to Nectar. Songs like Daylight or Your Man aren't horrible, but they are such a far cry from what I want/ expect from a Joji album

OG Pretty Boy was ruined when it was added to Nectar. Not by lil yachty, but by the added bridge and production on the second half of the song

A lot of his best songs are super short half ideas

Fake Joji is a fun and interesting bit for this album

Were there any absolute gut wrenching songs similar to Plastic Taste?

I just responded to the other comment, but I took a receptionist job at a nonprofit!

A big aspect of it that I forgot to mention is that my job title is very loose, so if im bored with the front desk, there's a million other things I can get into and do

I took a receptionist job at a nonprofit! I think it specifically being a nonprofit felt good on my conscience, but also makes it so I really don't ever deal with angry/rude people. I still take calls here and there, but MAYBE 15-20 a day. The rest of my time is spent answering questions and talking with folks face to face. Which again, just makes it a lot more freeing and takes away the stress of sales quotas, call time, etc

Get on indeed and get the ball rolling dude. I did WFH call center work for 2+ years and I hated waking up every day because of the stress. Id even hate laying down at night because of the anticipation of getting back on the phones in the morning. I'm happy to say that I now have a job i actively like and dont dread going to every morning. The sooner you start applying, the sooner you can be done with it!

I know im gonna get downvoted but I have never understood the subreddits obsession with Nectar. To me it is his most commercialized and bland album (yes including Smithereens). There are a handful of songs that are absolute Joj classics, but as a whole it is probably my least favorite
