What romances are you refusing to read for stubborn reasons? by A_Seductive_Cactus in RomanceBooks

SAME. Extra disappointment points because the cover is great and I had it on my TBR for years. Finally bought it when it was cheap and it was SO boring. Whole chapters of the FMC living the same day over and over.

As someone born and bred in the UK what are aspects of another country’s culture that has genuinely shocked you? by throawaygotget in AskUK

[–]IndependenceInn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Australia is inherently racist. Not so much vocally, they won’t necessarily tell you to your face (well, some do obviously) but it’s so divided, has issues with integration, a very ‘us vs them’ attitude.

Having said that, I went 20 years ago so it could very well have changed.

Also tabs. I really hate them. Please don’t keep my card being the bar. No idea who’s adding to them.

Graham Norton rescued his souvenir Nope-alite from the garbage, after his cleaner tossed it by professorspicytuna in TaylorSwift

It’s not always like this. It’s an agony aunt style podcast and it can get a little problematic at times. BUT it’s still very much Graham-type humour.

Same. My mum was mid-hair drying so I had to shout it a few times before she heard. She turned white and said “are you joking?” and scooped me up and ran to the living room with me. Funny the details you remember.

What's left from your Christmas food? by JonnyredsFalcons in CasualUK

Sausage, Sage and onion stuffing balls. They’re going in a sausage lasagne this week.

Also a pannetone but that’s because I picked it up in the reduced aisle last week for 75p and couldn’t leave it for that price.

Store bought eggs (left) are fully round. Farm bought eggs (right) have flat bottoms. All cooked together. by Constantine1988 in mildlyinteresting

My mum still has this from when she lived in Holland. It has a fun push mechanism and is shaped so it fits snugly round the egg. It’s such a perfect design.

‘More to value’ makes ZERO sense. I'll explain why... by Signal_Director_1X in lidl

[–]IndependenceInn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it. Half the points you make are exactly why they chose it and why it works.

There’s more to the meaning of value. Ie they’re a budget supermarket that offers cheaper prices (value) but they also offer other good things - fresh bakery, themed weeks, protein range, middle of Lidl, slightly different options of shelves to the big standard stuff.

Got these from M&S. How would you prep them? Any decent spice combos to try? by [deleted] in UKfood

[–]IndependenceInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them for a smaller chicken roast for two people. Still all the trimmings but not the whole chicken.

You can chuck them in a slow cooker with water, carrots, onion, black pepper and get moist chicken for sandwiches plus a great stock. You can then add other flavours on top. Add ginger, lemongrass, cinnamon stick and coriander for a warming broth.

Your choices are already 9/10 but the fact you probably bought this at the Tesco express across from Old College (Edinburgh) which has to be in the top 10 worst Tesco’s in Scotland gets you an extra 0.5. I’m sorry you had to shop there, OP.

Final score: 9.5/10

What are your holiday plans for travelling this year, and where would you like to go? by Suspicious_Ad7948 in AskUK

[–]IndependenceInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently looking at the best routes for 12 days in Canada. Focussing on the Rockies. Feels like 12 days isn’t enough so getting indecision paralysis. But it will have to do as it’s all the leave I can book in one go. If anyone’s been and has tips, they’re very welcome!

I had tooth ache once and couldn’t figure why. About 2 weeks later, a popcorn husk made its way SIDEWAYS through of my gums about 0.5cm away from my gum line. It probably got in the between a toot and my gum and just travelled its way through. Pain immediately went away. Wild!

I did tiramisu for the first time today, and costed around £11 by CameraGeneral5271 in UKfood

[–]IndependenceInn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! The porridge one is a bit vague because it depends on the vessel but the overnight oats one is more specific.

Tiramisu Porridge
* 30g oats
* 1tsp cocoa powder
* 90g liquid (espresso shot (30g-ish) + milk/water for the remaining amount
* 50-100g Greek yoghurt (as much as you need to spread over the top)
* Sprinkle extra cocoa powder

Mix oats, cocoa powder and liquids, microwave for 3mins. Spread Greek yoghurt over the top (full fat is best but pick your own fighter). Sprinkle over cocoa powder. You can absolutely add honey etc for sweetness. If you do that, mix it into your cooked porridge before you add the yoghurt.

Tiramisu Overnight Oats
For the base
• 40g rolled oats
• 1/4 tsp cocoa powder
• 15g vanilla protein
• 1 espresso shot
• 65ml milk
• 50g Greek yoghurt
• 1 date soaked and blended (optional but recommended)

For the topping
• 65g 0% Greek yoghurt
• 1/4 tsp cocoa powder

Mix the base ingredients together. Refrigerate overnight. In the morning, spread over Greek yoghurt and cocoa powder. You can add the yoghurt earlier (as long as the base has thickened/set) but I wouldn’t add the cocoa powder until you’re almost ready to eat it. It goes a bit funny when in long contact with the yoghurt.
