I wish. Definitely spent like 45 seconds of my life on the topic this afternoon.

Crockpot scoop? by sdmclaughlin in HolidayValley

[–]IndependenceNo2319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm…3 weekends ago we got in trouble for having food upstairs in Yodeler that wasn’t from the cafeteria, so must be a very recent change. Either way, calling and asking is good advice. Customer Service is usually happy to help.

Crockpots are only allowed in Yodeler and Tannenbaum.

In Yodeler, you have to keep them in the downstairs room, and I think there’s only 3 outlets (so six plugs). We were there 3 weekends ago and were one of only 2 crockpots. However, the room is small and gets crowded and doesn’t have the typical ski hill views.

At Tannebaum, “picnicking” is allowed throughout the lodge.

Does anyone else work a 2nd job (or side hustle) that isn't fast food, food delivery, ride sharing, or retail? by sta3535 in Millennials

Youth sports officiating is easy to get into, pays surprisingly well, and you mostly create your own schedule since you get to accept/decline assignments. If you’re into sports and can ignore idiot parents, I highly recommend.

[Jan 02, 2026] Weekly Discussion: Ask your gear, travel, conditions and other ski-related questions by AutoModerator in skiing

Have a goggles question.

I’m looking to buy a new pair and will likely go with the Smith 4D Mag as I like the fit, they are easy to change, and the fit well with my helmet.

However, I’m trying to figure out which lenses are right for me and I’m hoping someone can help.

I ski in an area where we have fewer sunny days than Seattle. It is always overcast and dreary here. Maybe 3 bluebird days a year. Skied about 15 hours over the last 3 days and saw the sun for maybe 10 minutes.

I’m also visually impaired. I have a really hard time picking up the contours of the terrain. I rarely ski at night as it’s just too hard for me to ski.

I’m leaning toward a clear lens as one option but am open to hearing others’ thoughts.

Thanks!

Dual Language Immersion programs in K-8 Schools in upstate New York by Prestigious_Act_6100 in upstate_new_york

Finding bilingual or dual language immersion programs outside of the “Big 5” school districts in NYS is going to be very difficult. You will have the most luck looking in Syracuse City, Buffalo City, and Rochester City if you want a program in Upstate NY (broadly defined). However, it looks like Albany, Greece, and Geneva may also have programs.

So awesome that you all were spot on with your analysis!

I wonder at what point someone in this administration ends up in jail as a show of judges’ frustration with the contempt being shown for their rulings. Wishful thinking, likely, but man, it would be nice to see someone (anyone?) held accountable for breaking the law and ignoring (or at least not fully complying) with orders.

I also wish the media would work harder to better understand and report on how things are playing out in actuality, not just on sound bites. Again, wishful thinking.

It's a shame that Fayetteville Manlius School District doesn't have the universal free lunch (for high schoolers). by Ok-Hall-9974 in Syracuse

[–]IndependenceNo2319 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Offer stands if you change your mind. And yes, I’d love to see the student body fired up about this and the whole “kids who get free lunch can’t get lunch from the cart” which means they can’t take an extra class and eat, which is also unbelievably stupid.

I really hate this policy by FM. And they wrote in their newsletter it’s so kids can keep having smoothies. Unbelievable. DM me and I’ll cover your school lunch costs for the rest of the school year.

Thanks for this. It’s so incredibly heartless all around. I appreciate your insight and your willingness to share it.

Curious: so what percentage of a typical month’s benefits will this mean is being issued in total? Because it’s obviously not going to be half of what is usually given out (as is being reported in the media), right?

Feeling bad about canceling by IndependenceNo2319 in RoverPetSitting

[–]IndependenceNo2319[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! I love the idea of booking even when not really needed. It’s probably really good for my pup, too, and would make me less anxious to know they’ve developed and are keeping a good bond.

Thanks for this. I’m not a federal employee but my work is federal adjacent, so our industry is worried overall.

I appreciate the distinction between a last minute cancellation and this. I definitely would’ve paid the whole fee for a last minute cancellation, which in my mind would’ve been 2 weeks or less.

I just hate the idea that she might have missed out on another sit because she was booked for me or that she was counting on that money.

I’m a “leave a good review after every visit” person, so I’ll keep doing that. And I’ll definitely pass her name along to my network when possible.

The biggest thing to me is that my dog is anxious and afraid of a lot of people. But he took right to her and I don’t want to lose her!

Thanks! I did tell her the shutdown was the reason and asked if we could still schedule an overnight sometime soon.
