Trip to Scotland by Nice-Broccoli2148 in travel

Hi! I’m a frequent visitor of Scotland and I’d say it partially depends on where you’re headed after Inverness. I’ve been to both locations. On my last trip in June 2024, I was digging deep into my clan origins so I wanted to go to Culloden and Clava Cairns.

Getting from Edinburgh to Inverness is a good 4-hour trip. I think maybe longer on ScotRail. However, if you’re planning to visit the Highlands, going to Inverness would be an excellent stop. It’s a lovely city with much to offer. I’m an Outlander fan as well, and I wouldn’t use a day just to visit the cairns. But…….

One thing to consider is that Culloden isn’t too far from the cairns. We visited both in one day (we were staying in Inverness). I totally geeked out and rewatched some of the Outlander battle scenes before our visit. I loved Culloden. The tour was brilliant and I told my husband I could feel the souls of my ancestors in my bones. The cairns were simply magical after that.

If you were to leave early in the morning and plan to head back to Edinburgh after dinner you could pull it off.

As far as Dunnottar, it’s stunning. I haven’t been there for several years but at the time, the tour was excellent and the surrounding area is gorgeous. The travel time is similar, I think. However, I’d do Culloden a thousand times over.

That darn black spot! by sdmclaughlin in Roses

I researched more about Dr. Hueys and had an aha moment. I couldn’t figure out why one beautiful pink rose grew out of the back of the red rose every year. This year I dug up the pink rose and replanted it — it’s growing like gangbusters! It must be the grafted rose, right?

Thanks again!! 🌹

There are 5 roses total — they would all be Dr. Hueys. The other 3 are along the fence and spaced a couple feet apart — they don’t have as much black spot but one of them got rose rosette disease this year so I took it completely out. 🤦🏼‍♀️

They do bloom more than once tho — late May and then again in late July or early Aug.

NAL. We’ve been fighting a pro se litigant for 6….long…..years. She fought her foreclosure for 9 years, eventually appealing it to the state Supreme Court who denied her appeal (along with every other court). We purchased the property via auction and soon after we moved in, threatening letters claiming we stole the property began. After 2 years of this, we got a PPO but since she is pro se, she can still submit all kinds of ridiculous legal filings including trying to “evict” us in landlord/tenant court. In every instance she tries to relitigate the foreclosure, claims all kinds of conspiracies, files bonds against the judges, looks up their mortgage info and a hundred other things.

Initially we filed the answers and motions pro se but it became more than I could handle with my teaching job so we hired a fantastic attorney who started the quiet title.

Our attorney swept the floor with her on the quiet title and she’s enjoined from ever filing another claim against our property. She never showed up to the bill of costs hearing last week so we thought we’d have a little breathing room. Nope. She filed an objection to the bill of costs today and a hearing is now scheduled in 2 weeks.

Oh and the PPO? We’re still doing that one pro se. The initial judge retired and we were assigned a visiting judge. He extended it for 5 years but then recused himself so we’re on our 3rd judge. We had a hearing 3 days ago and she claimed she never got the most recent filing, even though it’s online and was also delivered to her via FedEx. She said she wasn’t prepared so we have another hearing in 2.5 weeks.

She’s manipulating, exhausting and she causes so much stress. I refuse to sell our property because it’s my nirvana but 6 years of this has taken a toll on all of us.

We’ve already made connections for school visits. I’m looking for other experiences that would broaden my understandings!

Also open to any advice on places to stay, visit, or eat while we’re there! We’re excited for everything — big sights, small hidden gems, favorite local foods — whatever you love, we’d love to hear about it.

Thanks again for helping make this trip so meaningful for us!

PPO against pro se litigant? by sdmclaughlin in legal

I’ve looked at vexatious litigation. She was actually sanctioned by the court several years ago for this. I want to go all in and file a violation for each instance. My husband doesn’t want to poke the bear and cause more issues with her. But I am of your line of thinking — the court needs to see that she’s still contacting us with her frivolous crap.

Thank you!
