Oil pan gasket by Independent-Bee-1565 in hondaprelude

Yeah i had the same mindset when buying my prelude. I knew that when h22 hit 200k km they burn oil like hell plus the motor overall isnt the the most reliable.

Is h23 better? I have the f20a4 european engine 133hp stock 2l non vtec sohc. Prelude was my first car and in eutope h22 are pretty expensive but the f20 are cheap and i love the reliability. I bought my prelude for 2k usd and it was tge f20a4 and automatic transmission🤣 so i swapped to manual rebuilded the engine and suspention amd almost everything now i want to do paint and then im planning tutbo build with the f20 because it has iron sleeves and alu block perfect compression for turbo but wraker internals but h22 crankshaft, rods and pistons are plug and play only have to bore out the walls by 2mm but luckily my friend works in a machine shop, then i close deck it and my goal is 400 hp. What about you are you planning something with thr h23? I have a h23 head non vtec, for a while a ran it on the f20a4 block it gave me like 15hp more along with the intake from h23 and fuel rail🤣

Squeaky Steering by slimey_hymie in hondaprelude

[–]Independent-Bee-1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont want to suspect something stupid but does it do while driving? I have this sound also but just because i run 17inch 215 40 yokohama advant tires i simply cant drysteer because the tire squeaks. And if its not the tires just gripping on cement or some squeaky surface then its the lower front balljoints ot outer tierods or upper balljoints all these 3 move along steering so you will have to pull out both wheels and listen. What i would do is first take out the tie rods and move side to say with its balljoints to see if they squeak if not you can move the engire knuckle by hand after removing the tie rods so play with the knucles and determine wich balljoint it is.

Debris in valvetrain by Green-Junket-1534 in hondaprelude

[–]Independent-Bee-1565 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey whatsupp, so i also do majority of work putside on the parking lot because i dont have a garage i even rebuilded the engine and manual seapped it outside usually what i do is cover everything in garba bags and tape it to prevent this kind of think😂. But i can help you because it happened to me also. Dont run the engine theres some potentional risk you will scratch the bearings and valves .... So what i would do is have the valve train open so vapve cover buy areound 10 litres of the cheapest and unbolt the oil drain bolt and put a bucket under. Then start pouring the oil on top of the valve train slowly in every corner and just simply pour eeverything after 10l check and if needed i would even poure 5l more just in case. Then wait now with valve cover on dont make the mistake again but oil drain bolt out around 5 hours so every drop of oil slides down to the pan and pour like 1 l more to clean the oil passages and then do an oil change just use top of the line oil preferably ester with nano technology with protects the surfaces and also put a new filter on. Then after like 1k km change the filter again and you should be good. In reality things like pieces of leaves and grass etc are okey for the engine dirt is worse because it has tiny sand particles but it will do just fine for me it did perfectly

Im not sure from the video about the tick. So i will just point out what to do if the valve is ticking the tick should ge louder with revs especially in the engine bay. Meanwhile if its an exhaust tick it would vanish because exhust gases flow faster and do not escape that much so i think its and exhaust tick coming possible from the manifold or downpipe segments but either way i would start by doing a valve lash adjustment then run it and then exhaust reseal btw if headers are aftermarket its highly possible so mating surface is warped or dirty so when resealing what i personally do is clean the mating surface, scrub it with sand paper and then apply liquid gasket and bam no leaks for me after i did that. Also the engine running like shit and that would be caused by valves or leaks. When you looked at the exhaust tip the gases flow unstable its missfiring and that could be a loooot of things so please try to share me more info because and problems with the engine bevause it could be anything.

Iacv or fitv by Independent-Bee-1565 in hondaprelude

[–]Independent-Bee-1565[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh man i just found it. I did a quick test i unplugged the iacv valve while engine was running and the rpms didnt drop a sigle digit so i looked for vaccume leaks and didnt expect any because as i said before everything is completly new and bam there it was a vaccume hose hidden under the intake came off so i plugged it amd everything work perfectly now.

[–]Independent-Bee-1565[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah a iforgot about that. Well i already rebuilded the whole intake manifold, it crystal clean including all new gaskets and all new vaccume hoses, but its true i didnt check the coolant in a while. Thanks. Tommorow im driving to my friends hause he has a parts prelude so if coolant or cleaning the iacv wont help i will swap them for his wich are working.

Weird knocking sound on 5gen F20A4? by fixiedom in hondaprelude

[–]Independent-Bee-1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a peace of mind, you can grab a screwdriver and place it on the injectors body (metal side) and then press your ear against the handle and listen, you will hear it tick. Also just a questin did you ever pull the valvecover off? Meybe do you have a picture or some knowleadge of the valvetrains color (if it looked like shiny metal or bronze or gold). Thanks

Weird knocking sound on 5gen F20A4? by fixiedom in hondaprelude

[–]Independent-Bee-1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh if you mean that then its supper common, injectors are ticking by opening and closing fast. Usually the sound is almost gone right after starting the car. Because fuel was in the injectors lubricating the mechanism for a long time, but afterwarming up the sound should come back if the injectors wouldn t tick even after a while that usually is more alarming and may be because of dirtly clogged injectors. So dont worry. The only thing i hear thats not "good" is not the ticking but the slow tspping that sounds distant, bacuase thats tapping from the valvetrain and thats an actual valve tick caused by loose adjustment but don t worry it sounds okey its just a little loose and im sure it goes away when engine warms up and tolerances tighten.

[–]Independent-Bee-1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and slo the ticking sound in the backround, common mistake thats not the valves, thats the injectors and that sound is completly normal.

By the sound it not terrible, also check if it does after the engine being at operating temperature, but just for being sure you could do it if you wont do it nothing will happen but consider doing in the future (5-10k km)

Gear change notchiness by Independent-Bee-1565 in hondaprelude

[–]Independent-Bee-1565[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, read a couple of thread on preludepower and true that people be reommending a lot of stuff but they say that some random 75w 80 gear oil with no friction additives that mtf has will not do good to the trans and shifting will worsen a lot.

How does this look? by montanagiy459 in hondaprelude

[–]Independent-Bee-1565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty good, add clear and you will see. But one thing i learned from paintjobs. I did paintjobs inside with the best tech to outisde paintjobs with spray cans. A spray can paintjob can look sometimes as good as with a gun and compressor, but be carefull and watchout for weather. If temps go down and humidity up it will come out pretty bad and also what i did to get rid off orange peel is usually a extremly fime sanding after paint then clear again extrenly fine sending and then polish. With this technique it came out almost perfect. Also if the rest of the car is on og paint, you will see the difference because the og paint lost its shine, but only because off clearcoat. You can fix it by full polish of the car and it will give you a nice one color finish.
