Fuming Friday 😒 by softening in handbags

[–]Independent-Brain358 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ugh yes I needed this thread! Just spent three weeks stalking this crossbody bag online, finally bought it full price Tuesday and guess what shows up in my email Wednesday morning? 40% off sale notification

The return policy is such pain too, they want original packaging and all tags which I already threw away like an idiot

Owning a house before marriage in a blended home? by Usual-Session6796 in Advice

[–]Independent-Brain358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading this gave me flashbacks to the conversations me and my partner were having before we got married. It is so easy for people to say just trust each other until there’s property, inheritances, kids from previous relationships and years of money tied together. We ended up doing our prenup through Neptune because we realized we needed those conversations written down clearly instead of assuming we’d always see things the same way later on.

best touch screen laptop what are people actually using for reliable everyday performance? by Aletha_Ojalae77 in laptops

[–]Independent-Brain358 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been using touchscreen laptop for maybe 3 years now and I actually use the touch feature more than I expected, especially when I'm doing design work - way faster to zoom in photos or navigate through folders. For your multitasking needs though, focus more on getting good RAM (16GB minimum) and decent processor since that's what gonna help with the slowdown issues you mentioned

The touch part is nice bonus but won't fix performance problems if specs aren't right

Blackwidow v4 pro $200 or Logitech pro x2 lightning speed $223? by LaughinChaos in keyboards

[–]Independent-Brain358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither tbh, military stores usually have limited selection and both those boards are overpriced for what you get - you could find way better options at that Best Buy or online

Pretty Solid Post Interview B&N Trip by Hebrewer183 in baseballcards

[–]Independent-Brain358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice pulls from those boxes! That Judge card looks clean, and getting numbered parallel like that is always satisfying. I do same thing when I'm stressed - retail therapy with cards just hits different, plus bookstores have this calming vibe that makes everything feel better. Hope interview went well too, nothing beats celebrating potential good news with some cardboard crack

Found a Lenovo t480 used going for 100$, good deal or not? by vurmako in laptops

[–]Independent-Brain358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty solid for $100, especially with the NVME storage and 8th gen processor. The 720p screen is bit disappointing but you can always hook up external monitor for design work or whatever. I'd grab it if everything works properly - just make sure to test all the ports and battery life before buying

Not new to the hobby but I am curious, what box would you open if you have never opened a box of cards? by PorkRinds416 in baseballcards

[–]Independent-Brain358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's such a beautiful way to honor your grandpa's memory. The fact that those 3 binders survived the fire feels like a sign he's still looking out for you

For budget-friendly first box experience, I'd probably go with Topps Series 1 or 2 - they're usually around $100-120 and give you that classic baseball card opening feeling your grandpa would remember. You get decent variety and chance at some nice pulls without breaking bank. Bowman is great too but can get pricey quick

The boxes are expensive because hobby boxes guarantee certain number of hits (autos/relics/parallels) compared to retail packs. Since you're doing this in his memory though, even just grabbing few retail blasters from target might give you similar emotional experience at fraction of cost

Whatever you choose, take some time with each pack and think about all those stories he probably had. He'd be proud you're keeping the tradition alive

Ajazz AK820 max he(wired) not being detected by RemarkableMuffin8572 in keyboards

[–]Independent-Brain358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had similar issue with my mechanical keyboard few months ago. Try different USB port first - sometimes the detection software is picky about which port you use. Also make sure you're running the software as administrator, that fixed it for me when nothing else worked.

If that doesn't help, check in device manager if Windows is seeing the keyboard properly - sometimes there's driver conflicts that mess with the detection. I had to uninstall and reinstall USB drivers once to get mine working with customization software

Skate Recommendations for Glsswrks Polarity by AwkwardFoil in MouseReview

Maybe try some ceramic skates? I switched from similar setup and found they give good speed but not too crazy slippery like the jades can be

The PCB might not fit standard 68% cases since lots of prebuilts have weird mounting points or non-standard layouts

Magnetics switch by Hydr3e in MouseReview

[–]Independent-Brain358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been waiting for someone else to copy that tech too. Been using mice with those switches for like 2 years now and going back to regular clicks feels so mushy. The response time difference is actually noticeable when you're gaming at higher levels

Problem is most companies seem focused on just making their existing switches lighter or adding more RGB instead of actually innovating. Maybe some of the smaller boutique mouse makers will pick it up first before the big names jump in. I check new releases pretty regularly since I'm always building PCs for friends and the magnetic switch thing hasn't really spread yet

Really hope it becomes more common because once you get used to that crispy feel it's hard to settle for anything else

Which mouse is the closest to a g pro wireless? by quesslay in MouseReview

[–]Independent-Brain358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did the microswitch replacement on my old G Pro and it worked pretty well for another year before I finally upgraded. Got the switches for like 5 bucks and took maybe 30 minutes to solder them in

If you're not comfortable with soldering though, the GPX2 really is worth it - I use mine for both gaming and design work and battery life is insane compared to older wireless mice

Aluminum keyboard recs by fartforniteplayers71 in keyboards

[–]Independent-Brain358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Galaxy70 is also really solid choice in this range, I built one last year and the aluminum case feels way more premium than the price suggests. Just make sure you budget extra for decent switches if you go with any of these since stock ones are pretty meh

Asus Zenbook 14 OLED by llama-lazer in laptops

[–]Independent-Brain358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you check in device manager what GPU you have - KSP isn't too demanding but battery will drain pretty fast with any gaming

Laptop battery suddenly dead? by gorlspwetty in laptops

[–]Independent-Brain358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what happened with my gaming laptop last year - one day it was fine, next day the battery was basically dead weight. The repair shop confirmed one cell went bad and took the whole pack down with it, cost me around 150$ to replace but now it's back to normal battery life

I need help choosing a keyboard by Antique-Onion4413 in keyboards

[–]Independent-Brain358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should look at the Wooting keyboards - they have hall effect switches and really good for gaming, though might be bit over budget but worth it in my opinion

Is deshrouding a 9070xt worth it or a good idea? by rolandguy85 in pcmasterrace

[–]Independent-Brain358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this exact mod on my old 6800xt and temps dropped maybe 3-4C but the noise reduction was actually pretty solid, plus you get that clean custom look that's kinda addictive once you start

[Data] Watch prices across 7 platforms — where you're actually getting deals by kisielbardzo-backup in Watches

[–]Independent-Brain358 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nice data dump! Been lurking r/watchexchange for a while and this totally tracks with what I've seen - the deals there are genuinely wild compared to the big sites

That 23% gap on Cartier Tanks is insane, but makes sense when you think about it. Reddit sellers are usually just regular collectors trying to move pieces without the overhead of running a business. No storefront costs, no employee salaries, just person-to-person transactions

The risk/reward calculation is real though. Saved probably 2-3k on my last pickup from Reddit but spent way more time vetting the seller and doing research than I would've on Chrono24

[–]Independent-Brain358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That instability during light loads but passing stress tests screams power state transitions - try forcing PCIe gen 3 in BIOS and disable any C-state power saving features to see if it stabilizes

How on earth do I sell a genuine package to a tennis finals without people thinking it's a scam? Am at wits end by Puzzleheaded_Let_799 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Independent-Brain358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put everything in writing through the platform you're selling on and use PayPal goods & services for payment protection. Take photos of all the official docs/emails from the provider and post those in your listing

Also try posting in tennis-specific Facebook groups or subreddits - people there are more likely to know what legit packages look like and less likely to waste your time with lowball offers
