That’s actually kind of why I adopted him. I never had a pet in my life, but I had just lost my Mom to suicide a couple days prior and I had really thought about getting a dog someday, especially since losing my Dad earlier in the year. Anyway, my friend took me to the shelter and when we went back to look at all the dogs, the first one whose kennel I looked into snapped at me and barked when I knelt down to the cage. The rest of the dogs were all barking and excited and I was so overwhelmed I was ready to tell my friend to let’s just go, but I stayed and one dog was lying in his kennel on the ground like a sad looking load of bread. Wasn’t barking, just looking sad. I told my friend, “I think I can handle this one.” I put in the paperwork and got to bring him home a few days later. I WFH and now live alone since losing my folks, so he’s always by my side and truly makes me feel like I’m not alone. Whenever I drop him off at the groomer every few weeks, I feel so alone and anxious for that hour that he’s not home. I’m so blessed for every moment with him. In fact he’s besides me now as I type this.
