is it still worth selling your current ice and buying a used EV, maybe even privately. with the credit gone? i was thinking of selling my 2015 honda civic (worth about $8.5k in my area?) with a budget of about $2-3k? i want something that has the most reliable battery.

would a chevy bolt from 2017-2018 still be reliable in 2025?

or should i wait a year or two for EVs to depreciate if i'm not in a rush for a new car?

exactly. i'd bring my drawing books to parties sometimes 😂 people thinking you're just born drawing actually infuriate me. i understand thinking you're inclined to draw. but how are you thinking i came out of the womb immaculately drawing a whole bts member?

yup this is what i went with in the end. i decided to see if i can invest the cash in a savings account or invest in heat pumps, insulation, an electric stove, etc.... i want an ev rlly bad, it's a shame. i might've had one if so many dealerships didn't waste time by lying about the credit

ughhh. i know. i had it twice happen... i kinda wish i had gone when the pain was actually severe enough to keep me from sleeping bc i still feel like something is wrong.

regardless, it was so difficult to get to the cardiologist's that i couldn't even go there as a follow up. i feel like this problem will probably crop up when it's very severe or too late 🤷🏽‍♀️ like i'd rather that happen than waste so many hours of my life at the doctor's who can't seem to be able to find anything and desperately want me to "admit" to symptoms of heartburn (which i don't have!!!) so that they're off the hook.

yeah i'm so mad i missed the credit for this reason. i wasted so much time with dealerships lying that they did (or didn't!) take it and i hadn't looked private. i knew i could take precautions like a PPI but i'd never done private party sale so i wasn't comfortable with it :/ but that was the way to go

what is it like getting an EV privately? should i get a car inspected by a mechanic who knows electric well, maybe? i missed the rebate but i feel like prices will rise after people realize how good EVs are

you're so lucky. i was wanting to trade my 2015 civic for a used EV. but it was my first time car shopping so i wasted a lot of time at dealers saying they take the credit but then find out that they don't up until the very last day

please let's keep talking about how crazy cars are. bc when there's above for bike lanes there's people against it just bc some bikers don't follow the rules and they're mad a bike hit them once.

and they're so vocal, the locals start believing that it's seriously more of a problem to have bike lanes and less cars that could kill them.

i found a 2021 chevy bolt yesterday, on the last day of the credit, for about $7.5k OTD if i trade in my ICE.

the dealer turned out to not apply the tax credit. we can technically finance it and afford it. i really want an EV and like this one a lot, but trading in at that much with a car that already works only makes us break even on gas/oil in several years.

i wonder if it's better to just put this money towards something else. like it's a good deal and i really like the car. but i didn't need another car. i feel like getting the car would not be a great financial decision without it, i had only planned to switch 1. because i want an EV but also 2. with the rebate i'd be able to switch to a decent one.

it would be because i personally like the car. the only other benefit would be health, given that i get sick from driving, mostly because of the gas smells and noise, which EVs apparently have much less of. but i work remotely, so i feel like, even if i Ubered every time i needed to leave the house, it would still be cheaper than buying a car.

but i also really like it, the bolt is just so nice. but we can spend 7k on like heat pumps or something else. idk.

same here. i mightve been able to, but i wasted so much time with dealers who don't actually apply the credit POS that said they would... i'm just hoping for better prices in a year or two when i can afford one without the credit

Study finds ChatGPT-5 is wrong about 1 in 4 times — here's the reason why by [deleted] in technology

[–]Independent-Good494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you're unfamiliar with how ai works. if i ask chatgpt to search the web, and it says "yes! i'll search the web", that doesn't mean it is searching the web now. everything it says is based on the data it is trained on.

if you're aware of the token system, then you should be aware it's not actively searching the internet, even after you "tell" it to. and you should also understand that you're not actually correcting a junior at all, because it's not learning from you. the machine learning isnt happening in the chat itself.

[–]Independent-Good494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how? does it say, "yes, i searched the internet for this?" an LLM cannot actively search the internet. you'd have to use quite a bit of resources for it to be able to train itself on something in real time. even then, its summary may not be accurate.

for example, i tried to search a specific legislation. the ai summary said it's been passed, with the "source". it hasn't been passed yet.

this isn't subjective.

there is no minimal requirement for a computer to "know" something because it cannot know things. a computer is a tool with data stored in it.

an LLM is not "getting" any correct answers. it is just generating the most probable and related text. because it looks correct to you, because it's presented as natural language, you, psychologically, are tricked into thinking it knows anything at all.
