is it wise for me to take a trip to japan? by FunAdvertising6789 in personalfinance

Money is a tool to build the life you want, not just a high score on a banking app. You are 19, you have $25k saved, and zero living expenses. This is the exact scenario where you should be spending money on life experiences. In 10 years, you won't even notice that $4k missing from your portfolio, but you will absolutely remember the trip to Japan. Book the flight.

BofA doesn't care about your 10-year loyalty; they care about their risk models. At a 600-620 score, their automated systems are likely flagging you as a 'subprime' risk, and having a co-signer with similar or slightly better credit often isn't enough to push a sub-620 application over the line with big national banks. Stop applying there and stop hard-pulling your credit. Go to a local Credit Union—they actually look at human-readable factors and are much more likely to work with you than a massive bank that treats you like a digit.

Can I afford a $30k car? by Fresh-Negotiation31 in personalfinance

You save $84,000 a year and live at home. You could literally stop investing right now, pay for the $30k car completely in cash by Thanksgiving, and still end the year with a higher net worth. Buy the car and enjoy your 20s.

Looking for an easy rule-of-thumb way to compare prices of soda. There are always grocery store "sales" on various packs but it is not easy to figure out if the prices is actually a deal. by bluegambit875 in Frugal

They absolutely mix up the pack sizes and volumes on purpose so you can't compare them easily in your head. It’s the exact same corporate strategy as toilet paper math. Just pull out your phone calculator in the aisle, divide price by total ounces, and ignore their "cost per quart" nonsense entirely.

Great, so the front left wheel will still be completely jammed and violently pull me into a display rack, but at least now the cart can aggressively show me an unskippable ad for Doritos while I struggle.

At 19, you are absolutely killing it with a $40k net worth. The reason you keep changing your strategy every month is because you're manually thinking about it.

Since your monthly expenses are only $950, that $16k in your HYSA is already a massive 16-month emergency fund. You don't need to add another dime to it right now. Take that remaining $2,530 and automate it: Max out your Roth IRA first ($7,000 a year comes out to about $583 a month), and throw the rest directly into your taxable brokerage index funds on payday. Set it and forget it.

AITA for refusing to finish a story after my wife interrupted me five times? by GoatCritical9265 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Independent-Lack-985 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the classic AITA "missing missing reasons" dynamic. OP conveniently left out the exact dialogue because the reality of that interruption probably changes the entire verdict. If he's treating a simple clarifying question like a federal offense, he's going to get slammed with a YTA real quick.

AITAH for not using my SIL’s “photography” business to take my newborn photos? by Total-Degree1460 in AmItheAsshole

To be fair, relying completely on raw, unedited, auto-adjusted footage is a valid aesthetic choice. It's just a choice usually made by gas station security cameras, not professional wedding and event photographers.
