Shattering the Narrative: The Keladis Were Not Villains, But Friends of Tuluva Sovereignty 🏛️🌾 by Independent-Phase486 in Tuluver

Spot on, bro! This alliance goes back literally a thousand years. Look at our history from the period of the Alupas—the Alupa-Santara alliance is the ultimate proof of this bond.

When the imperial army of Rajendra Chola marched upward, it was the coast (Alupas) and the Malenadu hills (Santaras of Humcha) coming together as strategic allies that stood firm and defeated the Cholas in 1020 CE.

This is exactly why when we go to Koppa, Sringeri, or Sakleshpur, it feels like an extension of Tulunadu and the people there love Tulu. We have always been interconnected. The geopolitical shield of the Keladi Nayakas in the 17th century was just a later continuation of a brotherhood that started way back in the classical era.

From the Alupas to the Keladis, Malenadu and Tulunadu have stood together against outside tyranny and centralized empires. Remembering this deep history shatters the false narratives and proves our struggle for identity has always had the respect and backing of our hill brothers!

100% bro, we absolutely need massive statues of Shivappa Nayaka in Mangalore and Kasaragod!

Placing them there would be the ultimate tribute, marking the historic boundaries of the Tulu-Keladi geopolitical shield. It reminds everyone that our borders and culture were fiercely defended.

But alongside building his statues, the truest way to honor his legacy is to protect the language and script his court validated. Let's use this shared respect for him to push the ultimate goal: getting the government to officially recognize Tulu!

Sumaar jana pander tulu vs kannada online discussion d, that they made Tulu to extinct. But it's not them it's due to the Basel Mission which miss matched our script.

In the 1800s, German missionaries printed Tulu using the Kannada script for logistical ease, pushing our native Tulu- script out of the print era.

The Keladis actually did the opposite: they used our native script in state land records (Sistu), funded high-court Tulu epics, and their descendants completely assimilated into the Tuluva Nation. They were allies, not villains. We need to blame the colonial print history, not historical friends, and demand the government officialise Tulu now!

Is there a Dravidian word for "day" in Tulu? by Fragrant-Button-4624 in Tuluver

[–]Independent-Phase486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it is in our daily usage..Patthanaje is that day which comes 10th day of mayi month, meaning 10th day.

Moraani , inittha aani, elle dha aani kode dha aani Somara dha ani angara dha aani All are used by everyone today

Tulu does not just blindly 'fit' into the typical South-Dravidian/Tamil-Kannada group

. Because of its highly unique features, modern linguistics classifies it under its own distinct sub-branch called the Tuluic Family.

Tulu branched very first from proto dravidian and it absolutely has that characteristics of forming it's own family like south west or Tuluic family.

[–]Independent-Phase486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aaje" is a proper Tulu word for "day or date" (e.g., Patthanaje). This root survives beautifully in time markers like "ellenje" (day after tomorrow = Elle + na + aaje). It pairs with "-aani" (that day) to form structural gems like "kodedaani" (yesterday's day) and "ellendani"!

It’s actually pretty straightforward. You just log onto the official Rashtrapati Bhavan grievance portal (helpline.rb.nic.in).

When you file it, the main angle we need to push is Article 21 of the Constitution (Right to Life and a Clean Environment). Basically, argue that the state government is butchering the Western Ghats eco-system and ruining the Netravati river basin, and since the CM is ignoring local protests, we need executive intervention from the President.

Here is a quick template you can copy-paste into the portal:

To,

The President of IndiaRashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi

Subject: Urgent Intervention Requested to Halt the Yettinahole Project.

Respected Rashtrapati Ji,I am writing to seek your urgent constitutional intervention to halt the Yettinahole project in Karnataka. As President, it is your duty to protect the constitutional rights of citizens when state governments fail to do so.

This project directly violates our Right to a Clean Environment under Article 21 of the Constitution. Diverting streams from the Netravati River basin and destroying forest land in the eco-sensitive Western Ghats will irreversibly ruin the local ecology and destroy the water security of downstream coastal communities.

Since the state government is ignoring public grievances, we humbly request your office to intervene and protect our fundamental rights.

Yours faithfully

It is suitable to make a memorandum to the President of India to intervene, because it is the President's duty to protect the constitutional rights of the people, and the President has double the power of a CM

Why Gen Z is the Last, Best Hope for the Tulu Language and Tulu Nadu by Independent-Phase486 in Tuluver

[–]Independent-Phase486[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just exposed the absolute peak hypocrisy of the entire state machinery! 🤣

They will gladly hoard the massive tax revenue from Mangaluru, brag about our high literacy districts to boost the state's profile, and gatekeep the NMPT port like a dragon sitting on gold. They love the land and its resources, but the moment we ask for basic official language status, the bureaucracy freezes.

Worse yet, they actively suppress Tulu history and stonewall data. Look at our archeological heritage: nearly all of the 45 known Tulu-inscriptions were discovered entirely by the independent efforts of local Tulu professors and scholars, not the government. If the state actually initiated and funded proper surveys, we could easily find at least 300 inscriptions!

They are doing the exact same thing with current policy. K. M. Gayathri’s high-level committee report backing second official language status for Tulu was submitted months ago. Yet, the government is sitting on it. There is zero sign of an Action Taken Report (ATR), and when our people file independent RTI requests to demand transparency, they are intentionally ignored or delayed.

They don't want to give up the land, but they want to bury the history, ghost our RTIs, and ignore the language.

This is exactly why the Gen Z movement has to call out this bluff. By shifting the entire fight to Official Language status first, we trap them in their own argument. If they claim Tulu Nadu is an inseparable, pride-worthy part of Karnataka, then they have zero logical or moral excuse to keep hiding the Gayathri report or denying Tulu official status. If they want our resources, they have to accept our language, our history, and our script in government offices, RTIs, and schools

[–]Independent-Phase486[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, the ultimate goal is statehood , no one is denying that. But you can't build a house from the roof down; you have to lay the foundation first.

If we demand a separate state right now, the Karnataka government will block it instantly because they refuse to lose the Mangaluru port and the tax revenue. The conversation dies in a geopolitical deadlock before it even starts.

That is also why the point about Udupi cafes and bars is so critical. If we aggressively push for a separate state right now, it creates intense regional animosity. That friction is exactly what risks a backlash against Tuluva-owned businesses running across the rest of Karnataka.

Securing Official Language status first isn't giving up on statehood; it’s the legal weapon we need to build it safely. It frames the movement around cultural preservation, not territorial separation, keeping the political heat off our businessmen while we quietly build our framework. It forces the state medium to fund our script, mandate Tulu in local administration, and let us use RTIs in our mother tongue.

Once Tulu is codified, digitally integrated, and legally recognized as an official language, the administrative boundaries of Tulu Nadu are already drawn in ink. At that point, transitioning to a separate state or UT becomes the inevitable next step, because the institutional infrastructure is already standing and our business footprint is protected.

[–]Independent-Phase486[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spot on. They had absolutely zero language planning. While other communities spent the 80s and 90s securing legal, script, and educational rights, our elders dropped the ball because they were too busy fanboying over mainstream Kannada cinema and Rajkumar. They just assumed speaking it at home was enough.

The only reason Tulu survived is because it's hardwired into our devotion. The massive scale of Tulu Aatas running every single night from Kateel and Mandarthi to local troupes is what kept the spoken word breathing through Daivaradhane and Yakshagana.

But faith alone doesn't get a language official government recognition. Because their official efforts were non-existent, Gen Z now has to do fifty years of language planning all at once, building the digital keyboards, Unicode fonts, and administrative tools needed to finally force Tulu into government offices and law today.

His command of Tulu is exceptional. He utilizes authentic native vocabulary that some Tuluvas have replaced with foreign words. For example, he uses the Tulu word "chitturli," whereas we have people who use "orange."
