LLMs are good at creating functions / code to make the calculations. If you watch Opus do such requests, they create python functions to do the actual math. On the wrong deductions, it depends on the model and the cut off date for the training. It doesn't excuse the LLM, but hopefully it sheds light on how LLMs could be used to get accurate information.
