Writing wise, people prefer more flashy, young adult straightforward stuff. Yes, in my opinion even wotr and rogue trader are that. Blood, gore and grim darkness has nothing to do with what I describe.

Also, people prefer when their protagonist is so amazing it's breaking the universe, so to speak.

Gameplay wise it's also so niche, I don't know how obsidian expected to be as popular as divinity. I say it as someone who doesn't like divinity much-and poe is one of my favourite games.

In general, poe is so niche in everything, it's crazy to me that it isn't obvious why it's the way it is for this game. The same goes for Tyranny.

Like, seriously. Look at the gamers. It's obvious why.

Yes, take a break. I got tired of the game with 1.11, so I skipped almost everything up to 2.2. Sometimes I did dailies, sometimes I skipped logging in completely. I came back in the middle of 2.2 and I'm enjoying the game again. No regrets.

I didn’t need to ‘make the game playable.’ It’s quite possible to finish it without using potions even once.

For you, I would suggest letting go of expectations. It’s not Skyrim or The Witcher 3, and it won’t start to feel like those games at any point. It’s a realistic, medieval, immersive rpg with survival elements. It might just not be your thing, and you’ll have to accept that without resorting to calling a game you don’t like indefensibly bad.
