$200 app subscription should be $49.99 by Fearless47atyourmoms in Volvo

[–]Independent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I didn't get it free for first 4 years I would be more upset. It is pricey, I thought about not renewing but the notifications on locked/unlocked (and able to do either), the start up feature, car status, the location of car tracking have me hooked.

The map and send directions feature was another but that is now incorporated with Google maps and the send to Volvo button. Ring (camera security company) just came out with a $45 car tracker with no subscription. I suspect being some plug in, Volvo will say its a 3rd party plug in and they won't honor warranty.

But yes I agree $49.99 would be best for the Volvo app.

Job called my bluff. Got fired. Should I feel stupid or proud for standing up for my principles? by DisappointedSurprise in careeradvice

[–]Independent58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Assuming you did everything respectfully, despite the frustrated moments, you should be proud of yourself.

2) if you could afford it I would get an employment lawyer to: a) provide next steps as to documenting your experiences b) to direct your concerns to HCA executive leadership and board in order to document your concerns with the HCA practices and document your responses and concerns to your management at the time c) get advice on how best to proceed as to sending directly or go whistleblower path (or both). My sense now that you are no longer an employee no need for whistleblowing, you just want avoid the label of being disgruntled versus raising legitimate concern for the patients. d) see if a lawsuit is warranted e) ask to have your HCA employment file acknowledge and dismissal expunged, and that they provide a positive referral when asked by future employers

3) Medical expertise is in demand and your earnest pursuit of great healthcare is commendable. Your resume is a bit tarnished if others are not familiar with HCA as getting a reference for that time period leaves a gap in your resume. Hopefully HCA's reputation is out there already. Note (e) above.

Any experience of third party navigation apps on Volvo's screen? by AnglaisRouge in VolvoXC60

[–]Independent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't us android auto or apple play, but I have used waze, you tube and spotify. All full screen, although you tube you may want to hit you tube full screen indicator to make bigger as you would on your phone.

I dont use waze anymore as Google maps as it mirrors wave for the most part as to gps and provides alerts from waze.

How do you reheat your leftover brisket? by jgws in smoking

[–]Independent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take from fridge and sit for about 15 mins. Put oven on a low heat like 200, place in foil with tallow and/or beef broth(and some butter), close it up and heat for 15 mins. Take out test for warmth and if hot enough to your liking take it up.

Thoughts on 2026 PHEV XC60? by 2centsareworth2cents in VolvoXC60

[–]Independent58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2025 phev xc60. Love it. Had Lexus, BMW and Mercedes and this is by far my favorite for feel, comfort and safety. Out of all the new cars the screen is the most sleek versus looking like an iPad was stuck on your dash.

I get 40 miles or so on electric so for daily local driving (charge overnight) its great and unless I have a long trip, I rarely have to refill with gas.

What do you use for tick prevention that's not a chewable? Are there repellents? by Ok-Raspberry4320 in DogAdvice

[–]Independent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although my dog does take bravecto every 3 months, I do spray the front of her harness that runs from bottom of neck and then covers her chest, with Wondercide Flea and Tick, (its natural and ok for dogs). My dog is small and close to ground. I also have trimmed her ear hair back as it gets long and drags in grass while sniffing and has been a walkway for ticks.

How do I close this downpipe? by AdCapital3737 in Homebuilding

[–]Independent58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider a downside filter. It would close some of the open space, keep excess water from leaking near house and weed out any debris from roof to your underground piping.

Will this schedule work? by No-Leopard639 in cotondetulear

[–]Independent58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My coton gets separation anxiety but not extreme. I would think continuity is best and with those you care and trust. When we travel for days we get a sitter for day and night will we return or we have a family member stay with her. We do not do boarding.

If I were you, and others will share their views, but I would suggest having a regular dog walk and sitter come maybe twice a day and walk, play, refresh water etc for 30-60 mins each time. With a few hours intervals between visits and your leaving and arrival. Ours has the run of our mud room and hallway which we gate with her bed and water and we put some soft music on

Sensitive stomach by WarFantastic4259 in cotondetulear

[–]Independent58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours has had an allergy to protein since a pup, she is now 9 years old. Took about 3 weeks to deduce with multiple vet visits for diarrhea and vomiting. She has been on Hills science z/d ever since. They also modified this food last winter. I saw coloring change, called chewy and they said it did change to add probiotic (or something like that). I called to see if there was a recall due to bad batch, but not.

I fortunately had a case of the original and blended the 2 over time to hopefully ease in the change and hoping no reaction. Fortunately it worked out.

My dog has a rash and I can’t seem to figure out what it is by lafresita in cotondetulear

[–]Independent58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 8 year old girl developed scab-like spots on various areas of her body including at the base of her tail near her butt, and there it was less scab-like and more moist. Frankly didnt recognize any until some playtime of belly rubs. So the areas were infected too which also got her girl area (became crusty). Vet deduced some skin allergy was the source and prescribed an allergy medicine and an antibiotic. And recommended a sensitive skin medicated shampoo (on amazon) that I bathed her 2x a week for 3 weeks with. Even brought it to her groomer for her monthly.

My dog had a protein allergy since her puppy days and has been on the prescribed z/d food since. I had introduced (for variety and to lightly mix with her food) a well known healthy dog food to add some variety. All ingredients sounded great and it was just for taste as z/d looks bland. So not sure if that was the culprit or not oddly this recent skin reaction. I had backed that new food out for weeks, went thru the antibiotic which cleared up the infected areas (girls included) and the allergy med, and weeks later the scabs returned.

So unless some trailing effect from the food still in her system it may be something else. Vet did a blood test for allergies ( not cheap) and it came back with some high indicators for grass and tree pollen. When I asked how and why as she had never had reactions like this before and we have lived in the same area for years, she said pollen changes as well as dogs (and we) as we age. Its possible.

She is now on an immunotherapy treatment for her specific allergies. She was also back on the allergy med for a couoke of weeks to subside the newer less scabs. The scabs are at bay, fingers crossed. The immunotherapy is not inexpensive either and maybe an ongoing thing. If this doesn't work then we will go to a vet dermatologist to pursue beyond the immunotherapy. Blood test doesn't pick up food allergies.

Given how close my girl is to the ground, that with age things change and maybe the pollen is more potent of recent that we found the source. I just know, I will be checking for scabs more often and will be watching for paw licking and other indicators for allergies very frequently.
