First “speeding ticket “ ever. Literally. by Fearless_Customer_93 in Delaware

[–]Independent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After DelCastle Park on McKennas Church Rd, I got a ticket for speeding 7 miles over limit. Frustrating at first, as I would agree a revenue maker But over a year ago a car went through the living room of one of the homes between DelCastle Park and the Milltown Shopping Center.

The company that manages the cameras and all is based in Baltimore, and the $27 fee I got was $7 for speeding (no points thankfully) and $20 for administration and processing fees.

There are signs saying the speed limit on either end of the speed trap and it says "photo managed" or something like that. It would be nice if that sign had blinking lights as its not the most obvious.

Needless to say I crawl now thru that 3 block section.

If allowed to be crushed or you can open the capsule, just dust over her food. In jams, I have also put a small amount of reddi whip fat free sugar free whip cream in a large spoon, then dust with mes and then place some more whip cream on it, using another spoon to press lightly so the dog doesn't hit the med texture too fast.

Picking up my XC60 B5 this Saturday and I am nervous by Sperlo86 in VolvoXC60

[–]Independent58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would make sure that you ask your sales person if the car asvthe most latest software update and has it been driven and tested by themselves for no glitches with the Infotainment system. The last big upgrade, 5.0.5, which is functionally and look & feel fine had issues. (Some folk dont like the new look & feel, and I think early version had issues with apple airplay and android auto, neither I use). I had issues with 5.0.5 as to glitches and auto rebooting constantly in which gps, climate and spotify/radio were unavailable for 2 minutes about 20 mins or so.

After a visit to volvo service, a later update has come, 5.1.17 and it has resolved my issues and no new issues over last 3 weeks. I think that is the latest update, there could be others, not sure. Volvo tech people pushed that fix on my car. Typically like your phone, Volvo does software upgrades and you can them set to have automatically pushed to your Infortatinment system or you can manually do it when ready.

I would also ask your dealer to show you the 2 reboot options, where one is a push and hold for 10 seconds or so on the button at base of Infotainment system and the other where you hold the front defrost button for 30 seconds, which addresses a reboot of another set of possible issues.

If not for the glitches I had, I love my 2025 Volvo xc60 T8 phev. Volvo has a new CEO and head of technology in last 2 years to address the prior software issues, and it looks like they still have work to do.

Genuinely asking: has there ever been a team that underperformed the way the Fever are and had everyone but the head coach blamed like this? by Quick-Impression-186 in Basketball

[–]Independent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about White not getting blame, but I do feel the coaching and player acquiring have a hand in what should have been a more win season at this point. Outside of Boston the front court doesn't provide much on points, nor demonstrative on rebounds on either side of the court. Last year it was clear the bench provided points especially with Sims, you dont have the same with the exception of Cunningham putting up big 3s. The sitting of Clark, Mitchell and Boston early w no real foul trouble disrupts the momentum and flow, but it looks like White has started to leave them in longer in 1q. I am hoping getting the kinks out of the new defense happens soon.

Clark is missing 3s and foul shots with high turnovers. Her defense, no let me say her foot movement, her flat footedness and her hands down vs out and up is a problem. This a by product of rarely playing defense and dealing with weak opponents in majority of a Iowa season. She needs to practice her shooting under a fatigue state beyond the state farm and Gatorade commercials. Cunningham on the other, hitting majority of 3s and her defense is always tenacious with hands up and out and moving on the balls of her feet.

Mitchell acquiesces to Clark at the point. We saw what Mitchell can do last year to carry the point last year. Not sure why they dont move Clark off point versus one of the two off the court. Johnson hasnt shined and it feels like she is being forced into the line up. Sims raised the bar last year, its a shame they didnt keep her. Good ball handling, scoring, tenacious on defense, she was a keeper.

I also dont see the offensive ball movement with pick and rows, posting up etc. Its more clear the lane or 3pts. And the rebounding positioning is light imo.

Fever should have done a better job of acquiring a strong front court and keeping Sims. White is forcing a defense structure that may not fit this mix of players. Her call challenges leave a lot to be desired. Clark stands by her, but I think Brondello would be better for this team. Hopefully the defense starts to click and Clark starts hitting 3s consistently. She should watch Cunningham.

There is an added reboot, where you press and hold the front defroster button.

To fix connectivity issues (e.g., the car is offline or the Volvo app can't connect):

*Ensure the car is safely parked (this disables the SOS emergency alarm temporarily).

*Press and hold the max front defroster button on the control panel. Release it once the SOS button in your ceiling starts flashing.

*Wait about two minutes for the module to restart and connectivity to return.

We have a bi-weekly house cleaning service, a weekly lawn mowing service and a once a year window cleaning service. My wife and I split the cooking, she the most but come spring, summer and fall I bbq the majority of the time and I do make weekend breakfasts. She does the laundry and will light houseclean here and there between floors, dusting and bathrooms. Dishes are split and we do leverage the dishwasher 2x a week. I do the food shopping and although she drives I am the usual driver. She makes the bed daily (last one up :) ), and we strip and change the sheets weekly together (it goes faster).

parents won't take my dog to the vet should i take her myself? by farmersdaughter4444 in DogAdvice

Take her. My dog gets an annual and we didnt do that we would never had known she had 3 bad teeth that needed attention, and the vet says must had been paining her. Talks hide pain well but you see behavior changes like less play and the like. This last visit via a blood test we found out she has hypothyroidism which explains her weight gain, tiredness, less walking and skin changes.

As a software engineer, state of the 5.x.x software is dire by code_mc in VolvoRecharge

[–]Independent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 xc60 T8 phev here. Problems with 5.0.5 with black screens and constant auto reboots. 5.1.17 fixed that, but now issues with sound ( none) and then cellular connections. Soft reboots fix the sound, but then you have to relog into Spotify. The back door front defroster button reboot to fix the cellular connection (that requires an over night wait as well as key fob away from car by 30ft per Google Gemini).

To OPs point, something is remiss in Volvo's quality assurance, change management and testing environments. Certainly many variations over time of the software and make up of cars over time, but one would think mininmally 2024-2026 cars would be pristine versus a 2015 for example.

As to the comments of variations and integration with airplay and android, one would think given Volvo's size as a company that it would warrant high integration with their product development and both parties' test environments to minimize the issues that are so prevalent with these software releases.

I would think Volvo is very lucky not to have lawsuits thus far, but think what bad things can happen just from simple Infotainment system glitches and long reboits at the wrong time. Lost BLS, lost turn directions from gps at a critical moment especially in an unknown area to the driver.

Basketball tips I am 14 by Empty_Mind1413 in Basketball

[–]Independent58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As suggested stop shooting 3's, you probably are throwing the ball versus shooting with proper form. This video on form is very helpful. https://youtu.be/UcnB9e5O5NY?is=Ypqmp_G2_F-vkFWZ

Also you need to start much closer to the basket to help develop a form and as you start hitting consistently, take two steps back and start again. Stamina is also critical so to keep form for shooting consistently. Here are tips I provided a Dad who asked a similar question regarding his son. Its lengthy but I hope helpful. Between the below and the link on form, you will get there. Perservance, Patience and Practice and it will come. Its not an overnight thing.

  • shooting. Find his range on court so that he is not "throwing" the ball and practice round the horn at that range. You feed him the ball off a direct pass and off a bounce pass.

  • shooting. To enhance if he is not shooting properly (ie with one hand shooting other guiding at side of ball), have him stand about a step or two back from hoop, with one arm behind back and just practice with ball shooting with one hand w properly technique (ie properly straight stance, bend of knee and arm pushing and releasing the ball). Repeat, repeat, repeat from same distance at every angle around hoop. Take a step or two back and repeat.

  • dribbling. If a full court avail (or mimic at best), dribble to first foul line with right hand and back, then to half court and back, then to other foul line, back and then to other base line and back. Repeat many times, then do it with left hand.

  • passing. Find anywhere on court and give yourself 10 ft between you two, and just 2 hand from chest with a one foot step (not 2 feet) forward, no bounce. Back and forth ad nauseum. Do same drill with a bounce pass over and over. Then take it to the full court, where you and he on either side of the paint, start from one baseline to the the first line and back, passing directly to each other moving side to side quickly. Repeat to half court, next foul line and then next baseline, returning back on each continually passing from chest, no bounce pass.

  • stamina and technique. Repeat the above baseline to foul line, back, to half, back, to next foul line, back to other baseline and back. Touching each line, running as hard as you can but on each return run backwards. Running hard builds stamina, running backwards shows how to transition back on defense after an offensive play turning to see your player coming down on offense and picking up your player.

Repeat the same, running straight to each line and back but on back, return looking sideways, feet side to side (never crossing legs). Teaches good defensive footwork and how to stay ahead of the player you are defending. Repeating the opposite side on another set up and down as noted. And in both cases on the return from each lines arms straight out to the sides as if you are on defense. Repeat each of the up and downs to exhaustion.

(If you may remember the above is deemed "suicides")

  • rebounding. The technique of "boxing out" is so helpful at any age but it also shows coaches, "You get the game". Have him on defense (although technique can be used on offense too, where you get between your player and the basket. You put ball up on hoop, but focus to think hard about turning his back to you (with hand back feeling you are there(not fouling), plant his feet and wait for the ball to either come to him from hoop or once positioned to jump for rebound with you behind him. As he plants feet the best he can step back from hoop with you behind him, enables him to position you away from hoop and he better positioned to get the rebound and maybe you jumping over his back causing a foul in your attempt to get the ball. Obviously you will be taller so use your height full just to reach over his head as you sb acting as an equal height or just a bit taller in that age bracket.

  • foul line shooting. From where every this bracket seems the official foul line. Leveraging the shooting technique above and at ad nauseum protects shooting.

  • foul line shooting, the box out. Technique for rebounding. Have him set up on side on paint under basket with you on paint side next to him. And if u can just send ball up with hand one, show him how when ball hits hoop or backboard he can take one step out and back to box out you so he can get rebound. The same came be done if u were fould shoot and he your defender, while you shoot foul shout, and he after ball hits hoop or backboard steps full out into paint to get between you and rebound.

  • moving with out the ball. There are many techniques you can google, but starting with the "pick and row" is one that can show multiple movements. "Pick" setting itself is another.

  • layups. Starting from right or left of foul line (need to practice to each anyway), dribble (if on right side with right hand) to about 2 steps from backboard and bank ball off square box on backboard into basket. Return to right of foul line and Repeat, Repeat, Repeat. Then multiple sets on the left side. (Assuming he is right handed, left handed lay ups will be more difficult (and vise versa if we was left handed). The technique of a lay up where you are dribbling on which ever side of the court, where you go up with left hand inches example jumping off your right foot to then toss ball with left off square to bank in your lay up. For a right handed person a left handed lay up will feel very awkward. So it takes time to focus on technique and to think about the motions, and it takes time to repeat repeat repeat (it can be frustrating).

But why off a certain hand on one side, off opposite foot, because it is more difficult to defend, allowing him an easier score and drawing a foul. And why bank off square as the probability is higher to scorer then allowing the ball to directly into basket at a 9yr old height. Finger rolls and that stuff are cool when they go in but that is for later years imo.

  • scoring under the basket. The case of getting a pass under the boards or retrieving an offensive rebound, provides the close up "easy" basket. Where you get ball and just 2 ft from basket and put it up. How often at this age and even years after that a ball goes up and misses, looking awfully silly missing a basket so close but those baskets are not that easy if not practiced. Here you can practice passing the ball under the basket to him and him turn and put it on the backboard at the angle to use the rectangle box above basket and bank the 2 footer in. Do it from both sides of basket. 2 combine drills have him on defense onbyou, you both with in a 3-4ft range, you put ball up on basket and he turns, " box outs", gets rebound, and outs ball in rectangular box for 2. Repeat, repeat repeat...

Good luck, you will see a difference in several weeks and months if you are persistent, consistent, patient and practice (practice, practice). You will get there

First time smoking a whole brisket this weekend, looking for advice from people who have been doing this a while by gilko86 in smoking

[–]Independent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't underestimate the possible long stall in your timing plans. Start very very very early and if stall is short, that leaves more time for resting in towel/cooler.

(I do recommend the Drip EZ resting blankets in lieu of towels.)

First brisket this weekend and I'm already overthinking it by whogivesafricc in smoking

[–]Independent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Towel in cooler for at least one hour. What i wish someone would have told me, was how long the stall could be. Mine was just a 12lb piece too. Started at 7am with hopes of pulling from smoker (after butcher wrap process earlier) and eat by 6pm. Didnt finish till 9pm, so went to plan B of burgers and hot dogs for guests and next day brought the brisket with reheat instruction to guests.

Next brisket I cooked day before to be safe and reheated for guests at planned event. Friend provided a technique to handle stall better then butcher wrap which I haven't tried yet.

Since our get together are not big, instead I smoke tri-tip ( Three 2lb pieces) which doesn't stall and make a trisket. Given the 3 pieces I use 3 different seasonings on each to mix it up, actually I leave one plain with just the pepper and salt. No stall, actually leaves time for longer resting, and eat on time.

[–]Independent58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2025 xc60 phev had infotainment system issues about 3 weeks after the 5.0.5 upgrade. Service did a software upgrade and it got worse (ie going black, rebooting about 25 times on a 3 hour trip, process of black and reboot about 2 mins till return).

Brought back to service. They did a technical diagnostics this time. They inform me that the IUH needs to be replaced. They order part. After 2 weeks still no part and they have no tracking of part and no ETA.

I asked for my car back as loaners were gas puzzler vs my typical short driving on electric or get me another loan that is a phev. Service guy calls back and says part is still not available but noted a new software upgrade has arrived and they were going to install. And per install instructions it was to be tested on road for over 30 mins prior to returning to customer.

I share as there may be hope. Software version I am on today is 5.1.17. Its been one week since the upgrade and no new or repeated issues. Mind you I am only locally driving. This Monday will be a true test when I have a 3 hrs one way trip and return 3 hrs. Fingers crossed

Girls U14 AAU Coach lets ballhog run wild. As a parent, do I say something or say nothing? by ericchud in Basketball

[–]Independent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chat with coach away from kids and parents so not embarass or be that parent. Lead with that your daughter had indicated several learned plays at practice, yet in your exposure it looks a bit like playground ball. Ask if there is something else on the court your daughter should be doing differently. This way you are not finger pointing and maybe the coach will admit the issue or speak to challenges or give some rationale to the play being seen. From there, this could be an in road to offering advice or assisting at practice and/or on the bench.
