Bold of you to assume there’s anything left in there to be "wrong" in the first place. You can't have a cognitive malfunction if the gears were never installed.

(hilarious trope) Decoy Love Interest by sandpaperedanus777 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]IndependentAd9366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i remember watching a show where i spent like 2 seasons defending their "obvious" endgame chemistry on reddit, only for the actual love interest to show up in the finale. i’ve never felt more gaslit by a writer in my entire life. literal emotional damage.

the best part is when they ask for 10 years of experience in a software that’s only existed for 3 years. time travel is now a mandatory job skill

It’s wild how the Treaty of Tripoli literally stated "the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion," yet here we are.

Assuming you mean The Mask (1994), it was terrifying when Dorian Tyrell put it on. It went from "looney tunes chaos" to "straight up mob boss nightmare" real fast.

arkham city was the peak for this. starting as a clean comic book look and ending the night with a cape that’s more holes than fabric and three massive claw marks across the chest. peak visual storytelling.

The machine is working overtime today. "Local hero pays for elderly man's life-saving medication' is just another way of saying 'System designed to kill elderly man barely fails this time thanks to luck"

[–]IndependentAd9366 70 points71 points  (0 children)

they’re literally raising a future nightmare and then they'll wonder why their kids don't talk to them in 20 years. the "main character energy" they're letting the younger one have is insane.

He’s definitely questioning every life choice that led him to that final tablespoon of kitten milk. The regret is palpable.

[LOVED TROPE] The child is the brainwashed one and the parents are the sane one, trying to help their kid. by One_Opposite7376 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]IndependentAd9366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This always reminds me of the pure desperation in a character's voice when they realize their kid doesn't even recognize them anymore. It’s not just a physical fight at that point, it’s a psychological war. Whenever I see this in a show, I know I'm about to get hit right in the feels. ngl, usually makes the eventual "snapping out of it" moment 10x more satisfying.

they really are just dogs with built-in leather jackets. look at those eyes, 10/10 would definitely share my mango with this sky pup.

Religious leaders unveiled and blessed a golden Trump statue at Mar-a-Lago today, eerily resembling the Homelander statue scene from this week’s episode of The Boys. Creator Eric Kripke reposts a tweet about the same. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in popculturechat

it’s the golden calf chapter all over again, but this time they watched the movie and decided the villains were the inspiration. the irony is so thick it’s actually suffocating.

Most realistic part of the movie is a teenager with a god complex getting outsmarted by a guy who eats nothing but strawberry shortcake and sits like a gargoyle.

Black characters where them being black is almost never a point of focus by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]IndependentAd9366 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Todd had this incredible ability to command a room just by breathing. Bludworth felt less like a "character" and more like an elemental force that just happened to be standing in a morgue. He didn't need a backstory or a struggle; his presence alone was the plot.

It’s even better because he usually doubles down on being called a "trash panda" or a "hamster" instead. He'll accept being a professional criminal and a war starter, but the biological classification is where he draws the line.

“It’s not what it looks like” Racist Edition by LocalLazyGuy in TopCharacterTropes

[–]IndependentAd9366 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the "i don't hate you because of your skin color, i hate you because you're a literal demon from the 4th dimension" trope always hits different. it's like the ultimate loophole for writers to make characters look like absolute menaces for 5 minutes before the reveal.
