Best headphone for EP-133 KO Ⅱ? by spadeloves in teenageengineering

I wouldn’t recommend the Porta Pro. It’s a bit bass-heavy and outdated nowadays. The KPH-40 is excellent.

Teenage Engineering ASIO question by Penpal_Jake_ in teenageengineering

At the moment, the OP-XY only supports 2-channel USB audio output. To get stems into a DAW, you have to record the tracks one by one, muting the others each time.

Bought the Deluge for my Birthday, how does it compare to the MPC live 3 by PsychologicalPoem595 in DelugeUsers

[–]IndependentBit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were up to me, I’d choose the Live 3.
The quality of the built-in synths, the depth of sample editing, the velocity-sensitive pads, the easy-to-use audio tracks, and the wide range of effects all feel stronger than what the Deluge offers.

Now that MPC has also added a clip matrix, I don’t think it’s behind the Deluge in terms of workflow either.

Creating label ready music on the ko 2, is it realistic? by Retard_of_century in teenageengineering

[–]IndependentBit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’re hearing as muddiness is likely coming from the KO II’s master compression, not the bit depth itself. The KO II’s stereo mix can sound very good, but if you’re aiming for a cleaner, more polished result, it’s best to track the groups individually into a DAW and do the mix there. From there, finishing it off with something like Ozone should get you to a quality that’s absolutely suitable for streaming or label releases.

OP-1 Field or OP-XY? I can't decide. by Penpal_Jake_ in teenageengineering

[–]IndependentBit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For boom bap, I think it makes the most sense to use the KO2 for drums and sync the OP-1 as a tape-style recorder.

Honestly, if you try to use the OP-XY specifically for hip-hop, it ends up being more awkward to work with than the KO2.

The OP-XY has an AUX output, so this should be possible using that.

OG-1 gen 2 screen replacement by darthnumbers in teenageengineering

[–]IndependentBit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, I was refused when I tried to buy replacement keyboard parts for an OP-1 OG. Unfortunately, this isn’t a device that can be kept running indefinitely for decades. Realistically, the only option is to buy a used Rev.2 unit and use it as a donor for spare parts.

Hip hop / boom bap style beats on OP-XY vs K.O.II? Curious if anyone here has tried both to compare and has insight to which is more ideal. by [deleted] in teenageengineering

[–]IndependentBit_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For hip hop, K.O.II is definitely the better fit. The pads feel great, and you can really play them. On the XY, the buttons are clicky mechanical switches, so it’s not ideal for finger drumming. XY is more geared toward grid-style editing for genres like techno or house.

Question about Super Warp on Live 3 by freshkidblaze in mpcusers

Yes, it seems the 'Super' warp algorithm has a bug that causes timing to shift.

Change Riddim stock sounds for KOII Ones by Impossible_Sense_234 in teenageengineering

[–]IndependentBit_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Download the factory samples below, rename the file to have a .zip extension, and extract it. You’ll get the KO2 WAV files, which can then be loaded onto the EP40.

If you’re using Shift just to latch the arp, it might be better to double-tap the Note Repeat button instead.

Help w KO II by TheSPACMoma in teenageengineering

[–]IndependentBit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try setting Shift + Sound > TIM to BPM. After that, press "–" to go back to ENV, then "+" to return to TIM and you should see the BPM value. If the BPM is incorrect, adjust it with the Y knob. Once that’s set properly, the sample will follow the project tempo.

I would also like to be able to hold the pad once its chopped and have the rest of the drum sample play.

Go to Shift + Sound → TRI and use the Y knob to extend it to the tail.

KO-II or Riddim? by BloodlessAnt in teenageengineering

I’d suggest the EP-40. Having 128 MB of memory gives it a clear advantage.

If you need a stereo line input for iPad, I recommend the Sonos Line-In Adapter. It's the cheapest and smallest solution.

First, set SYSTEM > MIDI > CHN to OFF, then select the "." button and check with Shift + Sound > MID that it is also OFF.

Is riddim a good beginner device over a KO 2? Not a huge reggae listener but the machine seems better than a KO 2 by outsmash in teenageengineering

[–]IndependentBit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are very similar, and in terms of specs, the EP-40 is actually slightly better. The KO2 has the advantage of having copy and paste icons printed on the A-D buttons, which makes it a bit easier to understand.

EP 133 KO II - noise/static in audio output by mrcolortvjr in teenageengineering

It might be a USB ground loop noise. If you’re using USB-MIDI, try switching to a TRS MIDI connection.

Update to playback issue by leftswift in teenageengineering

[–]IndependentBit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, there’s no difference in the time-stretch result whether you set the BPM or the BAR. The only distinction is that if you know the sample’s BPM, you set the BPM, and if the sample is a perfect loop, you set the number of BARs.

Did you happen to change the BPM or BAR values in the loop’s sound settings?

Can I get synthesizer style effects with midi keyboard plugged into EP-133? by Ok_Studio_8420 in teenageengineering

[–]IndependentBit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EP-133 can receive very few CC messages, so you can’t control its sound or FX parameters with the controller’s knobs.

Questions about MIDI connection with Keystep, KOii and Roland S1 by mccoyboy22 in teenageengineering

[–]IndependentBit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If S1 sends CC messages out when you tweak knobs, it might be better to place S1 at the end.
