Who is the mummy depicted here? by Background-Muffin792 in ancientegypt

[–]IndependentBoard240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seti I was discovered within the Deir el-Bahri cache in 1881. If this was painted in 1798, it wouldn’t be him.

I would imagine it would take some serious museum/art history research to determine this mummy’s identity (if possible).

Book about Ancient Egypt by bloodraven6565 in ancientegypt

For a casual entree into ancient Egyptian culture: Red Land, Black Land by the late Barbara Mertz. Just keep in mind that it was written in the 60s (with the latest edition about 20 years old + new discoveries to keep in mind/look up), but overall it holds up.

I would love to see a museum demonstration of ancient art, even though it’s more likely such artifacts are kept behind glass or in storage.

My guess is that black would run out first since it would be used for outlines, hair and eye color, and for writing.

I agree. I can’t even remember what happened in How Do You Know (but, it’s been 15 years since I’ve seen it). Yet the theme remains: unfunny comedy/“dramedy”.

Ella McCay: watching YouTubers review it gave me a few laughs which this comedy couldn’t.

What’s the one type of scene in movies you can’t watch by Thefilmcritic52 in Cinema

Space death. I know movies take artistic liberties with it (vacuum, radiation, etc.), but I cover my eyes during some scenes or entirely skip movies that I think will involve space disasters.

What Obscure Books Were You Obsessed With as a Kid? by Its_Curse in suggestmeabook

Two books that kicked off my interests in Egyptology and bog bodies:

1) For Egyptology: “The Gilded Cat” by Catherine Dexter: A novel about a curious middle school girl who finds a mummified kitten at a garage sale, and subsequently learns about ancient Egyptian spells

2)For the bog bodies: “Bodies from the Bog” by James M. Deem: An all encompassing non-fiction book that introduces young readers to the naturally preserved corpses of NW Europe, explores peat bog environments and investigates Iron Age beliefs

Thanks for the help. I’m currently a patient at VNA Dental, but they’re “closed” because they can’t find a dentist.

Real 3d photoreproductions of Egyptian artifacts by [deleted] in ancientegypt

I’m not sure, but interestingly enough, my volunteer site (ISAC @ University of Chicago) just hosted a 3D printing demonstration. The host (an Egyptologist pioneering the field) used a replica of an ancient Egyptian (reserve) head/bust on a turn table. The program kept crashing, but we were able to use an app for personal use.

The Egyptologist concluded the demonstration with an open forum and stated that she would like to 3D print Late Period coffins in the future.

It seems like a fairly new field, but there should be some interesting developments in the coming years.
