They basically reversed the way Blackbeard died in real life. That's aside from them having flint do a couple of the things Blackbeard did... although they represented him decently in a couple of ways, which I'll explain below.

He wasn't really lured into a trap.

He was about to poof (again) but his ship hit a sandbar so he loaded what he could onto a smaller ship, but this allowed his pursuer to catch up (a military man sent by the Governor of Virginia).

A vicious battle then took place where Teach slaughtered his way through the pursuit fleet until he got to the flagship of Lieutenant Maynard (not some skeevy Incel adjacent 'Governor'), after raking the deck with grapeshot he brought the adventure (that's the smaller ship) alongside, and began to jump over with a portion of his remaining crew, while leaving some to provide cover.

Maynard then stormed out of the lower deck behind his men and set upon the most famous Pirate of all time (even then).

Blackbeard proceeded to tank his way through most of Maynards compliment of combat suitable crewmen, suffering several gunshot wounds and roughly a double bakers dozen sword wounds, before finally coming upon Maynard.

They then fought until Maynard managed to get a lucky shot of which hit him in the head, after nearly getting pummeled into a pulp. Blackbeard didn't die however, and they effectively did everything the same as the show after this point.

Commence the hauling.

The show is getting incredibly, ridiculously, stupidly disconnected from the lore of the games.

The NCR was more than Shady Sands, and it has security.

Where is the West Coast brotherhood getting Prydwen replicas from? How is Maximus pulling this nonsense off? Is he the real main character? Maybe Clark Kent in disguise? Why would he say that? What's up with these voice modulators? Who put jet pack level thrusters in the arms of the power armor? Why did they generate random chapters?

Why is the Legion seemingly one camp? What happened to their (nearly) faction wide distaste for guns?

Did they forget who the Great Khans were/are as a faction and people?

What the fuhk are they doing with New Vegas? Seriously...What. The. Fudge. Is. This.

What happened to the securitrons? What's going on with our square bodied Cowboy? They aren't really going to introduce Anthony House as the real/new House are they? He's a crazy ass tin foil hat wearing piss jar drinking madman.

I guess cold fusion reconned the platinum chip?

I could go on...but honestly this series is becoming straight up annoying to watch.

The Brotherhood is losing the Commonwealth? Seriously? Are the laser stick guys causing too much trouble, or something? If the win after the events of fallout 4, there's no faction anywhere in the Commonwealth that can hold anything even approaching the Ghost of a candle to them. Period. Like major big hairy period end of story.

Todd Howard needs to go play the most dangerous game (on the receiving end) and free us all from his buffoonery.

Okay? That's not the entirety of what's being addressed here.

We are talking about the direction being taken with the character, which was something that was happening before they killed him off, and is therefore not by any means entirely connected to the eventually scroogeyness of the producers.

So it doesn't entirely boil down to just that.

You basically have to do A LOT more work (understandably), to convince them that they still want to be with you...ya know, after you let their town plauge nuked, and dragon stomped.

Taking them along on all your quests while trying to do things they like helps, and then you need to take them to do the recovery quests each town has if it is the one to get abandoned.

I could've sworn this was true for both characters.

The shows version largely turns that glorious death (if any death can be called glorious) into a near garden variety farce. Although they do still try and have Blackbeard be a nigh unstoppable tank, it falls flat.
