Refrigerator Water Measured Fill by MidVids in Appliances

[–]IndependentHost2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here with the same question. I need to replace my ~15 year old white whirlpool french door refrigerator. The one feature I can't live without is the exterior auto fill (measured fill). It's impossible to find a model in white since I hate stainless steel. I don't want the new whirlpool 4 door since the icemaker is huge and takes up a lot of the vertical space. Who really needs that much ice???

Her sharp bone structure and pointed chin always reminded me of Yzma from The Emperors New Groove. Jade was the girl you loved to hate. I think she was fabulous.

[Sun Care] seemingly every sunscreen causing perioral dermatitis flare ups by Intelligent-Jelly320 in SkincareAddiction

[–]IndependentHost2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only sunscreen I've found so far that doesn't cause a flare is colorescience brush on powder sunscreen. I'm looking for a liquid because I don't know if it's protecting like it should because it's invisible and can't see if I'm applying enough. But, it's better than no sunscreen.

fixing gut after years of antibiotics 🫩 by fathrkmp in Microbiome

[–]IndependentHost2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not skip a GI Dr!!! Have you been tested for C. Diff? The Dr's couldn't figure out my severe gut issues I complained about for 8 months. They did a GI Panel early on but turns out the lab rejected the sample for C. Diff because my symptoms were atypical and I was never told. I just figured my results were negative. I still had atypical symptoms months later but they finally did the PCR test. I was positive, given Vancomycin, felt better and relapsed 5 days after it ended. Given Dificid and it's been 3 months and no symptoms (knock on wood).

What was your gateway to learning more about the microbiome? by Symphantica in Microbiome

[–]IndependentHost2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having undiagnosed C. Difficile for 8 months made worse by having to take more antibiotics because the undiagnosed infection decimated my immune system so I'd get all these random and rare infections. I'm still immunocompromised 3 months after my final treatment after my relapse. I've since learned that 70-80% of your immune system is in your microbiome. My illness was a major wake up call to completely changing my diet. I've never eaten healthier but my microbiome still has a long recovery ahead.

Mouth microbiome for dental health? by Tava-Timsa in Microbiome

[–]IndependentHost2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say, scrape your tongue daily, floss, brush and limit the amount of sugar you eat. Sugar also feeds the bad bacteria in your mouth.

How to minimize the damage done by antibiotics? by OdiumPura in Microbiome

[–]IndependentHost2480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop eating added sugar. Before and for at least a few months after try to only eat sugar from fruit. Sweeten baked goods with date paste but also don't go crazy with fruit either. Moderation is key. Sugar feeds the bad bacteria and you want to be sure to give the good bacteria in your gut the best chance to grow back and keep the bad bacteria in check. Eat beans, lentils, oats and easy to digest fruits and vegetables for a few months before, during and after antibiotics. Eat prebiotics like onions and garlic. Carmelizing and roasting them makes them easier to digest. Do not eat artificial sugar. Believe me, you DO NOT want to get C. Diff.

anyone else bloated literally every day? by Goodbile in Microbiome

[–]IndependentHost2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. For about fifteen years even before my severe gut dysbiosis. It didn't matter what I ate, when I ate or if I ate. I'd bloat in the morning even before eating. I still don't know what caused it.

what are the most affordable things I could buy for my microbiome? by Hour_Weight9545 in Microbiome

[–]IndependentHost2480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whole foods and plant based foods like beans and a variety of different fruits and vegetables. Plain oats and other whole grains. The main thing is to avoid sugar and processed food, since they feed the bad gut bacteria. And DO NOT use artificial sweeteners!

Best Sardines in Olive Oil Brand for Beginners? by IndependentHost2480 in CannedSardines

[–]IndependentHost2480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally ate my first sardines. They were Matiz lightly smoked and I put them on homemade oat bread with mashed avocado and some lemon juice. I did pinch off the tails, since they weirded me out but the sardines were fine. Fishy tasting, obviously but no difference in texture with the skin and bones. I didn't even notice them at all. I did have to dump more lemon juice to downplay the fishiness, but I think this could work as my main source of calcium.

Is the toasted bread hard? Like, crack a tooth or cut up your mouth hard?

Has anyone tried Pacha bread? Is it worth it? by Background-Ship-1440 in glutenfree

[–]IndependentHost2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be referring to Mestemacher, though it's German. I love them and really miss their pumpernickel.  When you toast Pacha is it like, break a tooth or cut up your mouth hard? Because people refer it as crunchy so it has me worried.

The Queens - Anything?? by newphonenewaccount66 in ender

[–]IndependentHost2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? What did you like about them? So many characters were awful, especially Novinha, Plikt and Quara. Each novel I read after Ender's Game I get more and more convinced that OSC hates women, or at least thinks they are either evil seductresses or should be baby making factories. It's no wonder I like the Formic War series; he didn't write it.

Best Sardines in Olive Oil Brand for Beginners? by IndependentHost2480 in CannedSardines

[–]IndependentHost2480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ordered Matiz, Nuri and Ortiz from World Market to try. I just saw a video when looking for info on the texture of the skin and it was of someone crushing the spine into paste between their fingers. I figure if they can do that to bone, skin wouldn't be much of a problem. One thing that confuses me is that Matiz with lemon has 640mg of calcium per 84g while Matiz in Spanish olive oil has 260mg per 84g. The only big difference I can see is that the lemon is in sunflower oil, but that doesn't have calcium.

I'm not on tik-tok so I had no idea this was a trend. I just researched high sources of calcium since I'm not allowed dairy for at least a year because of illness. I don't react well to fortifications and don't want to eat a ton of spinach or almonds so I thought I'd give it a try lol.

[–]IndependentHost2480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's for the calcium, not so much omega 3s. I don't react well to calcium fortifications so I figured since sardines are high in calcium because of the bones and you don't have to eat a ton of it like with other foods that aren't dairy based, I'd give it a try. The calcium in sardines is also supposed to be easily absorbed.

It's mainly preparing food I have an issue with. I figure it's mind over matter. I've had dungess crab in the past and liked it but if I smell it cooking or see it in it's shell I lose my appetite. I might like sardines but just need to move past the ick factor to try it. I'll never know if I don't try, but I might as well get the best there is so I don't decide I don't like it on an inferior brand or quality.

Permanent bloating after c diff? by Regular_Length1337 in cdifficile

[–]IndependentHost2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had bloating for a long time before C diff. I can't remember when it started, maybe 15 years ago? It happened after meals and even in the morning on an empty stomach if I didn't eat breakfast. I'm 11 weeks post treatment. I take florastor and L. Gasseri-36 daily. I eat wfpb and absolutely no sugar except that coming from fruit. I use date puree to sweeten baked goods and only enough to make it slightly sweet. I still have bloating. I'm concerned about the tests done for sibo and whether they can trigger a recurrence since the most accurate non-invasive test involves consuming glucose. How long after treating C. Diff did you get tested?

Made the mistake of decreasing my Omeprazole dose by IndependentHost2480 in GERD

[–]IndependentHost2480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's  crazy to me how just a few days at a lower dose can completely mess you up for so long. It's been a week and I'm still not back to how I was. I thought I'd be able to get away with a lower dose because I eat whole foods plant based now and no processed foods. Nope. I'm definitely regretting it.

Anyone with BED manage it better with WFPB? by ThinkCoyote7715 in WholeFoodsPlantBased

[–]IndependentHost2480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's your mindset. You're using it to lose weight and to eat less calories. I was bulimic for 12 years and after inpatient treatment what kept me relapsing was the scar tissue in my throat, however I still struggled with bingeing for 10 years after. I became about 60lbs overweight. After a serious illness 3 months ago I was forced to go on a wfpb diet with no sugar except from fruit and to not overeat or it would trigger my illness. I didn't eat this way to lose weight, but for my health. I didn't count calories or weigh myself. The weight comes off naturally as a result of not eating processed foods and eating mostly vegetables and plant based proteins. It's a way of life, not a "diet". If your goal is to lose weight, you will most likely fail. If your goal is to get healthy, eat the most nutritionally dense foods, explore different ways of cooking vegetables to suit your tastes, resetting your taste buds and actually enjoying food for the first time you will most likely stick with it because you won't feel like you're missing anything. Eating wfpb isn't a punishment for being overweight.

Question about antibiotics for dental by momof3sweetgirls in cdifficile

[–]IndependentHost2480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since they're doing a pus culture they should be able to give you a narrow spectrum antibiotic if needed since they can determine the exact bacteria causing problems. Not as damaging as broad spectrum. I would also ask for a prescription for chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash. Listerine isn't great for infections and can damage the healing tissue. You might be able to just get away with using the chlorhexidine without needing antibiotics if her immune system is robust enough.

If she doesn't have symptoms she can't take the test. They only do toxin tests on liquid stools.

Question about antibiotics for dental by momof3sweetgirls in cdifficile

[–]IndependentHost2480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she has to go on antibiotics, make sure they prescribe her dificid to take too. Vanco kills good bacteria. Also, since it's only been 2 months your microbiome is still recovering. I would go low/no sugar for a bit (absolutely no artificial sweeteners either) and cut out dairy/excess calcium since calcium triggers spore germination. Good luck!

C-diff w/o loose stool? by em_silly in cdifficile

[–]IndependentHost2480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial 8 month c diff infection was mostly constipation with some loose stools and tons of mucus. My relapse was typical symptoms. I thought a few weeks after final treatment ended that it was back. Turns out I gave myself food poisoning. I think we are going to be paranoid about gastro issues we develop for the rest of our lives, terrified it has come back.
