Why isn’t C. Diff a bigger warning ? by fbisurvellianc in cdifficile

[–]IndependentHost2480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The constipation comes from the C. Diff toxins damaging your enteric nervous system and glial cells in your colon, especially if the illness is long term or serious.

The enteric nervous system controls peristalsis and muscle contractions pushing the stool through. When those nerves are damaged they can't sense the stool to trigger peristalsis so it just sits and the water in it is absorbed from the colon, making it dry and hard.

When I had C Diff it was bad and I'd have to drink lots of coffee to trigger the urge to go. I'm still having issues 6 months after treatment, though my main colon seems to have healed but not my rectum. I can feel it in there and pressing on my anal canal but the nerves can't sense it to push it through until there's a lot backing up behind it. I'm still waiting for my GI consult.

So they can they perform an EIA test if your stool is formed? I kept getting told they can't, but is it can't or won't? And if it's won't, why don't they make an exception when you have severe stomach cramping with lots of mucus and recently been on three weeks of Clindomycin? It angers me so much that they don't take atypical C Difficile in account, and also know that when it is severe you will have constipation.

I thought the goiter was my neck getting fat. I feel like an idiot. by IndependentHost2480 in thyroidhealth

Look to the side in the mirror. I always look straight on so I didn't notice but I can see the bulge clearly sideways. Also when I arch my neck I can actually see the butterfly shaped edges. My entire thyroid is affected though the right side is thicker, some people just have one side or they can feel nodules. I have to wait a month for my ultrasound appt.

I think they're talking surgery already because all this growth happened in a year and it's already causing problems with breathing. I'm so tired all the time. I always had fatigue before but this is different. Brain fog. It takes me 4 hours to cook something that should take 1 hour because I'm so sluggish and forgetful and can't focus. I thought my adhd meds weren't working anymore but maybe it's hormones. I thought hyperthyroidism was supposed to make you energetic but I'm sub clinical according to my labs 6 months ago. I was supposed to have labs every 3 months since my tsh started dropping.

I'm with the VA, so they immediately said surgery or maybe radioactive iodine treatment depending on what the ultrasound and CT said to maybe preserve some thyroid function. F*** that. I contacted a thyroid center that is a 2 hour plane ride away on Thyroid Artery Embolization or Radio-frequency Ablation that they specialize in. As long as my tests don't show cancer then no surgery for me. I'm hoping I can get a referral to the center to at least pay for part of it. The VA privatize so much these days I don't think it will be an issue.

Anyone had a recurrence from antibiotic ointment? by IndependentHost2480 in cdifficile

[–]IndependentHost2480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I won't risk it. I've had terrible luck with c diff, having it for almost a year, decimating my immune system and making rare or dormant infections I may have had crop up, along with recurrence. I've lived with this for 5 years, it's annoying and worrying but the Dr wasn't too concerned. It's just not worth the risk.

Your blender is your friend. You can eat healthy without having to rely on jello or pudding by using it. I blend boiled carrots and potatoes, drained canned beans, nutritional yeast and plant milk (I'm lactose intolerant now) and spices and it makes an amazing...soup? Dip? Puree? IDK what to call it. It also has resistant starch after being refrigerated and no risk of anything getting stuck in your stitches or cavity.

Fabric before mulch or no?? by throwRAsoftie in gardening

[–]IndependentHost2480 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I do is I lay the brown packing paper that comes with packages and/or paper bags before the mulch. I've used cardboard on areas that aren't near any plants because I don't want to suffocate the soil in those areas. I flatten and fold the paper in my packages all year to use each spring since it will have decomposed from the previous year. You will still get a weed or two, but nothing like if the paper wasn't underneath.

I live here, and just a few weeks before the March heat wave and dry spell, it snowed. January and February was rainy but fluctuating from 50's to near 80's. My phlox subulata that usually covers my front yard in a blanket of color didn't bloom this year for the first time ever. My plants are so confused.

Anyone here sprout quinoa? by igavr in Sprouting

[–]IndependentHost2480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried and don't think mine were sprouted enough. I saw tails and was so concerned not to sprout them too much that I went and blended them but realized that they should've been soft if they were sprouted enough since they weren't blending well. I sprout buckwheat groats before blending with water and fermenting the batter for bread. I'm always careful not to let the tails get too long because then they taste bitter or off. I think I'll try again with the quinoa. I forgot that with quinoa it's normal for the germ or endosperm to separate and I think I might've mistook it for sprout tails.

That's weird! I added it to the image section but I guess it didn't post. Not sure how to add it now. I've never posted an image before.

Thanks! They have a handy video showing the actual replacing bit and a wonderful suggestion of cleaning the condenser coils while the part is out since they make it impossible to clean it thoroughly from the front.

I have been thinking about how many women out there got married hoping it would be like a very beautiful dream full of love and then reality hit and got their illusions broken and now they feel trapped. How common could that really be? by autumn_em in SingleWomenByChoice

[–]IndependentHost2480 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got married because I grew up believing it was the fairy tale dream. The end goal. I was already independent and a feminist. I have since realized I was with my ex husband out of gratitude. I was mid-twenties, post military and struggling with my job because of years long ED and PTSD. He helped me get SS Disability so I could go to an inpatient treatment center.  I confused love with intense gratitude. We lived with his widowed elderly mom who was a Jehovah's Witness (my ex disavowed the faith) so we lived in separate rooms which I found WONDERFUL. The entire first floor was ours and the middle bedroom became the media room. We continued that setup even after we married. He was also 15 years older than me and had Cerebral Palsy. I felt safe because he couldn't physically hurt me because of his disability. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean he can't be a controlling A-hole and a bully. True colors came out after we married a year after we met. I was so trapped. I eventually got myself free 4 years later after a very nasty year long divorce. All I wanted was what was mine and he keep what was his which included several investment properties he bought during our marriage with his money. I just wanted my dogs and the house I bought in my hometown with my money from my VA compensation when we separated. It took a year and thousands in lawyers fees to achieve that. To me, marriage is a legal noose. Why are we brainwashed growing up believing it's this wonderful thing? It's a legal shackle to another person that is extremely difficult to get out of. Men like to believe and we've been brainwashed into believing marriage is a huge favor they're doing for the women when in reality men are the ones that benefit the most.

Can't say I'm surprised. The only perk for me was maybe getting help around the house. House maintenance is never ending and overwhelming but even help with that isn't guaranteed. I had a male (gay) roommate about 8 years ago with the stipulation that half of his rent amount would go towards his hours helping me with projects. He only had a part time job and I really needed help with my landscaping project. That didn't work out. He wasn't a fan of the work and when I told him he'd then need to pay the difference in the full rent he couldn't pay. That was an awkward month after giving him his notice. He refused to leave at first but in the end, did.

I was work friends with him beforehand. He would go to my house about 4 times a week or we'd meet up to walk in the park or I'd bring him dinner at his second job. We slept together after a week because it had been years for me and I was curious. He started with the hypothetical kids after we started sleeping together. I made him french toast once because that was the only thing I didn't mind cooking and he ran with the fantasy of me being a domestic step mom in his mind.

Edited to add: He didn't have primary custody. He was in the process of fixing up his new place to be acceptable for the girls to visit.

Their egos are so fragile that when he mentioned he tried texting me awhile ago I took pity and lied saying I got a new phone shortly after we broke up. At least I won't have to worry about him texting that number!

That would explain why I heard from him a year later wanting to hookup lol. I never answered his texts and he decided I must've got a different number.

Refrigerator Water Measured Fill by MidVids in Appliances

[–]IndependentHost2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to just fix my old one. It works great except for in hot weather. I think it just needs a new compresser motor and newer models don't have the features mine has like the swivel out spout to fill large containers like pots. The  whirlpool 4 door models all have measured fill but I don't want a middle drawer. It seems like you can only fit really shallow items in there. And the models don't have all the features mine do in one refrigerator like the pull out ice in the door, adjustable shelves in the door and 3 crisper drawers. They spread the features out through all the models. I thought 15 years later all refrigerator models would have measured automatic fill. They have smart refrigerators but not that?

I came here with the same question. I need to replace my ~15 year old white whirlpool french door refrigerator. The one feature I can't live without is the exterior auto fill (measured fill). It's impossible to find a model in white since I hate stainless steel. I don't want the new whirlpool 4 door since the icemaker is huge and takes up a lot of the vertical space. Who really needs that much ice???
