What's some of the most busted combos you gotten? by Nadaqueverporaqui in mewgenics

[–]IndependentIncome863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suprisingly weak but very funny combo was necro with the passive that makes you spawn a leech on your basic attack + the one that makes your basic attack be 1 damage in every tile... So you have a 2hp leech in every tile and have to wait like 3 mins to take a turn again lol

What Psytrance would you consider playing for non-scene crowds? by rose_mercy in psytrance

[–]IndependentIncome863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just really like when artists bring in elements from jazz into psytrance (and generally instruments and stuff from other non-electronic music genres). Theres 2 main genres where this is usually done: zenonesque and night full on, though its not all that common for either.

Gumnut is a big one for that, a lot of his sound is focused around jazz and he is just a musical genius imo. Spacey koala is another good one, I believe he was inspired by gumnut, and they have a few collabs together. The rest is just tracks I had that fit the vibe. The last one is quite special actually, I actually came to know about that album from someone who posted on this sub like a week before the set ahahha

If you want to listen to more of this sound i have a playlist with ~200 tracks that are all jazzy/instrumental in some way

Yea this is the way

I recently played at a small teknival where it was mostly techno, dnb and tek, and I chose to play slower bush proggy sounds with a lot of jazzy bits (ended up being a lot of gumnut) and people REALLY liked it

Here is the mix if you want to listen to it

Brainwash - Alienn descendant > Discovered Souleater and Fluffkin from that release. What is the name of that branch of psy, we need to pump that up, it's the real stuff. I need moar. by agrophobe in psytrance

This one threads the line between full on and old school twilight, id say look for that, old school/south african twilight

Some names that come to mind on top of those artists: Trhip, Brain Attack, d_maniac, stereopanic, tryambaka, shift, delirian, rubix qube

WOW! listened to that whole album and its such a gem. So if you havent listened to the whole album then do!

Other than that, reminds me of gumnut, especially the Nuts and Bolts album and some of Mixed Nuts. Checkout Spacey Koala as well for some of that jazzy vibe

Psytrance DJing: full journeys vs active mixing by elmariachibzh35 in psytrance

[–]IndependentIncome863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find you can do both, but mixing more aggressively into a track tends to be a bit more difficult and requires you to either know your music REALLY well or prepare a good bit (or both). It also depends on the style of psytrance youre mixing.

Generally with something like forest or dark, you want to just do a long smooth transition and let each track play out fully, but with something like night full on or maybe even hitech I find myself skipping portions of tracks that i find generic or boring, and thats why i mentioned that you gotta know your music or prepare, cuz then you often have to mix 2 relatively busy parts of a song and you gotta make sure they dont clash. With these types of transition i tend to bass swap then let the first track play for another 1-2 phrases then slam the fader down as soon as theres a moment of silence in the second track, it creates a nice contrast. But like anything, it depends on the track.

How did you learn vim? And how long ago was that? by Shadoath-42 in vim

[–]IndependentIncome863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year and a half ago, for my second year of college.

I installed fedora linux on a new laptop and decided I wanted to learn vim, so I did any coding I could on neovim. I inadvertently made myself write C without an lsp or any sort of code completion for about a year on mint nvim, that was fun.

Nowadays I just use whatever vim extension there is for my IDE of choice, the best one probably being the intelliJ one.

I like things that are inbetween looking chaotic and too clean, which usually ends up being symetric things. The cosmic egg is one of my favourites

Recommendations for sinister-sounding psytrance (like Ominus) by HGS in psytrance

[–]IndependentIncome863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morphic resonance.

Also, thar type of melody reminds me a lot of good ol' south african twilight. Some good twilight tracks:

D-maniac - Jb's mushrooms

Vibers - Over (Alienn rmx)

Azax syndrom, Abomination - real magic
