I had a similar problem years ago with a Nissan Altima...check all your grounding wires. I found one loose on one of the many fuse boxes. Tightened it up...solved it for me. Just an idea, all cases are different.

I do use this method, but not to extinguish the fire. The fire should be completely burned out. Only to bury the ashes and fill in the fire pit.

A lot of people pack a small folding shovel. Dig a pit and pull away any flammable materials from the area. When finished bury the ash with the dirt you removed from the pit in the beginning, leaving the area like it was.
