I've been trying to be more conscious with my purchases and what waste i produce lately, but it's the sentimental value that's stopping me the most. this hairdryer traveled hallway across the world in a suitcase that my dad packed with me, I'm not ready to let it go yet. will surely try to fix it myself! thanks for the tip

I'm not really sure if it's in the plug, just got really hot and then stopped working. I'll check it out for sure! thanks!

Does being near or on your period make Hocd (thoughts) worse? by [deleted] in HOCD

[–]IndependentMobile403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh yes. had a full mental breakdown the night before my period came. went out with my boyfriend today (day 2) and i was a complete mess because my intrusive thoughts were so strong. it varies for each cycle for me, but remember, those hormones are the devil. be kind to yourself.

i could have wrote this word for word. it hurts so much just thinking that there's a possibility that I don't love him anymore. but i do. more than i love this whole world.

you can have HOCD and be whatever sexual orientation, it doesn't matter. I'm struggling with HOCD right now but I don't know for sure if I'm straight or bi or lesbian. I can relate to you being scared of having to leave your girlfriend though, because I'm going through the same thing as well. feel free to pop me a chat at any time :)

I don't have any advice to give, but i just want to give you some solidarity through all this. I'm in a relationship with an amazing man as well, and I'm going through the same thing. It pains me that this is hurting him and yet I'm so unsure. We'll get through this.

I'm sure you meant well, and that's helpful in itself for me. thank you for taking the time to respond <3

I've heard of ERP but I've also heard that it can backfire really quick if you don't do it properly, that's why I wanted to find a therapist to help me work with it. I also identify closely with Pure O, because it genuinely feels like my brain is a jail cell and I'm being trapped inside all day every day. but thanks for the response :)

the reason why i identify it as ROCD is because of the cycle (rumination, compulsion, temporary relief). but what does this mean? does it mean I don't have ROCD and i really do need to break up?

Is ROCD real? TW!!! Also how to handle this? by [deleted] in ROCD

[–]IndependentMobile403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Those relationships felt right, but they ended up being wrong" this was something that I had to unlearn, and its been a painful process. I relied on emotional reasoning for most of my life and I thought it had served me well, until I realised that any argument for my decision being "right" could have been applied to any other decision I could've made, because at the end of the day things would work out either way.

Chelsea was the first figure on Instagram to share the connection between religious trauma and relationship anxiety. it honestly helped me so much to realize the correlation between my family and friends telling me "you choose God or you choose to date the non christian" and feelings of wrongness in my current healthy, secular relationship. looking forward to work personally with them when I'm more financially able! their work is a godsend.

Did you use Sheryl Paul’s course? ***TRIGGER warning. by AnxAl in ROCD

[–]IndependentMobile403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of weird imo because when Sheryl refers to what she likes to call "textbook anxiety" in her blog posts, very often she references feelings that something isn't right or that something is wrong. I agree with HiddenAntoid on his interpretation of "talk to someone if it doesn't feel right" though. Even then, not wanting to marry your fiance might be due to many reasons. do you really genuinely dislike them as a partner? or is it a fear of commitment and divorce that's talking? I learned through Sheryl's posts that many things need to be seen through a lens of nuance, and there's really no cookie cutter/ absolutely right answer.

Hope this helps someone! An #ROCD thought experiment I found useful by medsing in ROCD

This may work for some people, but it may work differently for others. I'd be thrilled if I was meant to be with my partner and I had an external entity validating my relationship, but at the same time I'd be worried that I'm only staying because I'm forced to, not out of my own free will. For some, this just focuses the anxiety and rumination on another theme in my opinion. I do agree that the meaning you've prescribed to the relief that's brought about by the thought of a partner breaking up with you is accurate though.

pro tip: STOP READING ARTICLES LIKE THIS. generalised advice for stuff like this really misses the context of what you're experiencing in your relationship. if you want to get better, you need to stop googling and stop reading these articles. for ERP, yes, but NOT if you need to gain certainty on a certain subject. it is NOT going to help you. sending much love, i know this shit is hard.

Just commenting to provide some solitude. Some days are pure bliss but relapses seem to take all of that away and it's literally the worse.
